The 'smooth' exit from transition now leads to a million and one little things that you can't get hold of or took completely for granted.

Why is sainsbury in NI selling spa milk? Why can't you get hold of your favourite food stuff?

Its a slow strangulation of the country.

In which you get to learn all about the merits of the EU and what a donkey Johnson really is.

It doesn't surprise me at all that horseracing is the second largest spectator sport. Think of all the betting shops - what exactly are they showing?

I was a little surprised (once) that angling is the largest participant sport.

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 07/01/2021 18:13

The betting shops are a good point. I honestly would never have thought it! Grin

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 07/01/2021 18:24

I didn't mean to derail and kill the thread btw. Horses just aren't part of my world. Wow.

@HannibalHayes

List of companies charging more or stopping exports to the UK/EU.
There will be a lot of very upset Irish people in Britain. Barry's Tea is on the list.
OchonAgusOchonO · 07/01/2021 18:32

@Peregrina

Tesco also had stores in the Czech Republic. Now whether they source food from the UK, I wouldn't know, so it may not in practice make a lot of difference to them.

Clearly Johnson's idea of Global, does not tally with mine.

A lot of the products in Tesco in Ireland are sourced locally. However, a lot are also sourced in the UK.

Absolutely shocking if this is genuine. Eric Trump videoing his dad cheering on the riots.

My life has just become even more sadder, no Barry’s Tea😩
My local Tesco stopped selling Tayto crisps last year now this.

@MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes

which few understand - and almost none, if any at all, have full and complete information on. I do not believe that horse racing is the UK's second largest spectator sport, sorry, but that it eclipses the contribution of fishing is amusing.
I don’t care what you “believe”. Go look up the facts.

Attendances–5.77million attendees at over 1,500 fixtures held at 60 racecourses (52 in England, 5 in Scotland and 3in Wales), with four of the top ten attended sports events in the UK.

Revenues generated–Annual expenditure of £3.45 billion, a tax contribution of £300 million and a lever for multi-billion pound trade –including significant foreign direct investment–into the UK annually.

Employment –Over 17,400 FTE employment in the industry including approximately 450 jockeys, 550 trainers and 6,500 stable staff.

www.horsereporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Brexit-briefing-September-2019.pdf

A Commons research library briefing reckons the UK's fishing and fish processing industries employ a total of 24,000 people, and contribute £1.4bn to the UK economy.

Freshwater anglers contribute an estimated £1.4 billion annually to the English economy, supporting up to 27,000 full-time equivalent jobs, through their spending on the sport.

Nope - that’s 5.77 million racecourse attendances.

Yeah yeah... already caved in on that. I don’t know many horsey people and none that I know (note emphasis) go to races so it was a surprise. Has something annoyed you?

Helocariad · 07/01/2021 20:04

Yes. You.

Laugh away.

SabrinaThwaite · 07/01/2021 20:14

Can’t be arsed Jason, given that the country has been held hostage to fucking fish.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/01/2021 20:16

One of the earliest cock ups of Covid was allowing Cheltenham to go ahead. 250,000 attendees over the course of the week, wining, dining and shopping all over the local area.

Jason118 · 07/01/2021 20:34

@SabrinaThwaite fair pointSmile

DrBlackbird · 07/01/2021 20:49

Sabrina makes an important point in how many Brexiteers 'believed' and 'felt' rather than caring about looking up the facts. It was/is this kind of argument that is consistent across Brexit and Trump supporters. We know Trump won the election, we believe the UK will be world beating outside the EU etc etc

Meanwhile can we expect to see more of the metaphorical shrugging of shoulders of having got it wrong for those that admit to getting it wrong and 'so sue me' attitude being deployed by Brexiteers down the line as evidence grows of livelihoods being destroyed and options closed off?

FrankieStein402 · 07/01/2021 20:51

Hopefully a lesson that we and particularly our journalists take away from the US experience is that lies have consequences and big lies have big consequences.

They need to be called out when they are told - are you listening @bbclaurak ?

Jason118 · 07/01/2021 20:55

And we go full circle to the 4th estate and it's ability to independently report facts as opposed to its own facts. Who controls that wins, and the interface with social media is the end game. Control both and you'll never lose - control one and you'll probably always win.

I have squirrel news. Squirrels attacking Queens residents
Shrillharridan · 07/01/2021 21:14

I was at the cemetery earlier today to check my dads flowers and the biggest grey squirrel I've ever seen stopped on the path about 2 feet in front of me, chomped on whatever it was eating, gave me a look of utter disdain and buggered off up a tree.
No need to be rude, eh? 🐿
