Is it a Good Deal?

Heartlantern2 · 24/12/2020 14:59

I think a lot of people wanted no deal so they could stick the boot in, however I’m sure they will pick the deal apart too and still put the boot in anyway!

CoveHid · 24/12/2020 15:00

Surely any deal is better than no deal! This has to be good news doesn’t it? Glitterball

Bathroom12345 · 24/12/2020 15:03

It is good news. We need some. All those moaning minnnies who moan and complain - this day is for some respite from the endless bad news.

Next stop - Oxford Vaccine....

Great news. Really pleased with this outcome. Well done to the negotiating team. I’m sure it won’t be perfect and both “sides “ will claim they “won” but that’s what negotiations are about, both sides give and take.
It’s great news for U.K. and Eu alike.

Backbee · 24/12/2020 15:04

Oh no, going to miss the posts on social media and threads on here about no deal (even though in negotiations it's expected to go to the wire, and playing hard ball is part of it).

Bathroom12345 · 24/12/2020 15:08

It was always going to go to the wire. The EU didn’t want to make it look too easy in case other countries wanted to leave too.

Gracious speech from Ursula. She is so glamorous as well.

PurplePlain · 24/12/2020 15:08

Ooohhh!

Parky04 · 24/12/2020 15:09

Thank fuck. Delete the Brexit board. Nothing more to see!!

CountryLadyLane · 24/12/2020 15:10

Great news will be interested to get full details

HmmSureJan · 24/12/2020 15:11

I'm pleased but I am pretty convinced that the majority of MNetters won't be able to summon a good word to say about it.

sobsanta · 24/12/2020 15:12

I'm a staunch remainer and I am extremely happy about this. The idea of a no deal January was a lot for me. This deal will never be as good as what we had in the EU but it's better than no deal!

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/12/2020 15:12

Phew. VDL gave a very classy speech. I like her. Barnier is irritating.

marcopront · 24/12/2020 15:12

@HmmSureJan

I'm pleased but I am pretty convinced that the majority of MNetters won't be able to summon a good word to say about it.
Surely that depends on what the terms are.
TheVanguardSix · 24/12/2020 15:13

I hate how we're supposed to be all 'yay! happy happy joy joy'. I feel so let down by politicians on either side of the Channel waiting until the eleventh-fucking-hour to do the fucking decent thing for citizens. All of this last-minute dot com-carrot-before-the-donkey bullshit's getting old.
It's all shock and awe tactics and the, as we're laying there, face down in the sand emotionally, we're supposed to grovel with grace and gratitude like good little plebs." Oh thank you, Master. Thank you. I still worship you." Brexit is still a shit sandwich and I am unapologetic about my stance.

I'm also in a terrible mood today, so there. Grin Of course it's good news... but they're all assholes anyway.

MarshaBradyo · 24/12/2020 15:14

I don’t know details but thank god!

I’ll take a deal

TheVanguardSix · 24/12/2020 15:15

I'm pleased but I am pretty convinced that the majority of MNetters won't be able to summon a good word to say about it.

It didn't take me long to prove you right. Grin
I'm sorry. I just feel so terribly cynical about everything. It's been such a slog, Brexit, and it is good that it's finally done, but what a giant turd's it's been, the process of getting it done... with the added fun and games of covid.

ceeveebee · 24/12/2020 15:15

@AnneLovesGilbert

Phew. VDL gave a very classy speech. I like her. Barnier is irritating.
Agree. He was so passive aggressive about us “choosing to give up all the rights and benefits”
Lampzade · 24/12/2020 15:18

The Devil is in the details

Toptotoeunicolour · 24/12/2020 15:18

Good news, huge degree of complexity to cram into so little time. With that and the Oxford vaccine news expected (hopefully) just after Christmas, there will be good reason to feel more optimistic.
Assume there is no need now for the Brexit board to continue?

MarshaBradyo · 24/12/2020 15:19

Finally we can move away from ‘Boris doesn’t want a deal’ line!

Inthebleakmidwinteriwouldsing · 24/12/2020 15:19

I agree with you @TheVanguardSix but I’m more like “thank fuck for that”. No deal/hard Brexit would have been crap for everyone (I’m Dutch) so presumably this is going to be better than that alternative. It’s hardly a happy ending I’m sure, but could have been much worse.

tinselearedcow · 24/12/2020 15:21

I am a remainer, but glad there is a deal. No deal plus the pandemic would have been awful.

Will it be known as the Christmas Eve Deal from now on?

sashagabadon · 24/12/2020 15:22

No doubt some of the hard core leavers and remainers will bicker and moan but for the rest of us it’s great news!
Boris did get Brexit done after all
