Westministenders: Promises, promises

We should see the party manifestos soon
in 2017, that changed the election

So far, Tory and Labour have been competing for who can offer the most spending on the NHS

Labour have been giving tantalising glimpses of free dental care and free broadband

The Tories have been hinting at tax cuts, as well as public spending

The polls suggest the public like all of the above,
but also that Brexit is the most important issue

25 days to go, still all to play for

I know I live in a bubble, but there is such an enormous discrepancy between what I see and talk to people about and the views in the press and polls. It makes me feel really unsettled, like I don't have a fix on reality.

tobee · 17/11/2019 17:52

Thanks BCF! Thanks

As I was saying the sound of silence that emanates from Johnson re apologising seems to be catching

yolofish · 17/11/2019 17:54

thanks BCF and I'm sorry about what you went through at school.

There seems to be a great deal of silence around today... I expect the god-fearers are at church and the others are... wherever.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

fedup21 · 17/11/2019 17:55

The manifestos will be interesting to read, though tbh, politicians tend to promise one thing and do another, don’t they?!

lonelyplanetmum · 17/11/2019 17:57

Promise Maybe Keep up with t'thread.

ClashCityRocker · 17/11/2019 18:00

I think once the manifestos come out things will start to move in the polls.

I quite like the glimpses of labour's manifesto so far and think they could play well. Even my anyone-but-corbyn mother thought they sounded reasonable, and something that would benefit her. Not that she will vote for him (she will possibly go lib dems - a moot point as its a safe labour seat) but usually anything suggested by corbyn would have been met by utter disdain from her.

(I offer this up as pure anecdote, BTW. I'm sure there's lots of people who are not on board with commie broadband... But it was pleasing to see a change in tone from her).

Alsohuman · 17/11/2019 18:01

Thank you, BCF.

borntobequiet · 17/11/2019 18:02

PMK thanks BCF

Peregrina · 17/11/2019 18:02

Well, some of us managed both to go to church and to go to the local party office to do some clerical work..... Do I get a gold star?

bellinisurge · 17/11/2019 18:08

Thank you BCF. Hectic weekend. Luckily, it's all quiet in politics. No, wait ....

I wonder if Arcuri's interview tonight will have any effect or is the "BJ is a lovable flawed oaf who has understandable male urges" too ingrained amongst a sector of the population?

Westministenders: Promises, promises
yolofish · 17/11/2019 18:14

yes of course peregrina! I was thinking more of those who overtly make 'going to church' a thing in order to demonstrate how wonderful they are while at the same time voting through things like PIP assessments, UC etc etc.

Hoooo · 17/11/2019 18:14

I was at church too :)

Hoooo · 17/11/2019 18:15

Tbh for bojos supporters a hint of domestic abuse seems almost a positive Halloween AngryHalloween Envy

BestIsWest · 17/11/2019 18:18

Pmk. Was also supposed to go to local candidates office to help out today but felt really ill earlier. Feel terribly guilty although I did deliver some stuff on Friday. Helped a DH put a placard up in the front garden earlier.

FadingStar · 17/11/2019 18:21

Me too. Go every Sunday 👼 😇

BigChocFrenzy · 17/11/2019 18:21

I hope you are feeling OK now, best 💐

If you hate me after what I say
Can't put it off any longer
Just gotta tell her anyway
Bye bye Bojo, Bojo goodbye
Bye bye Bojo, don't make me cry
You're the last boy in town I'd vote for
Boy, I'd vote Nicola now if I were free
I wish it could be
I could love you but why begin it
'Cause there ain't any future in it
She's not got me but I'm not free so
Bye bye Bozo, Bozo goodbye
Bye bye Bozo, don't make me cry
Wish I never had known you better
Wish I knew you before I met her
Gee, how good it would be for me
Should have told her that I can't linger
There's a voting card at my finger
She's got me but I'm not free so
Bye bye Bozo, Bozo goodbye
Bye bye Bozo, don't make me cry

From the last thread....

Centillions and everyone else. I live in Uxbridge. My teenagers go to the local schools here. ALL the Muslim teenagers are anti-Semitic. They all believe 9/11 was a Zionist / US plot.

So I do forgive Ali for his tweet (which I think was about 9/11) because it is the absolute norm here.

3dogs2cats · 17/11/2019 18:35

Thanks BCF great title. So sorry for the racism you endured.. my Dad grew up in a huge Bristol biracial family in the 1930s and 40s, then met my Irish Mum in London in the 50s. The racism got them on the property ladder though, no one would rent to them, so they had to buy...
The absolute bile coming towards the LabourParty and Jeremy Corbyn is starting to feel ok actually. The Conservatives really are running scared.
It does feel like late stage capitalism. No matter how corrupt Trump and Johnson are, no matter what lies they tell, on they go actually believing they are natural leaders and best placed to govern Surely soon these walls will come tumbling down.
