Westministenders: Promises, promises

We should see the party manifestos soon
in 2017, that changed the election

So far, Tory and Labour have been competing for who can offer the most spending on the NHS

Labour have been giving tantalising glimpses of free dental care and free broadband

The Tories have been hinting at tax cuts, as well as public spending

The polls suggest the public like all of the above,
but also that Brexit is the most important issue

25 days to go, still all to play for

Borntobequiet - their churches are nothing like ours.

This church en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoido_Full_Gospel_Church has 800,000 people attend every Sunday!

I believe they do it in 8 services. One every hour all day Sunday.

Sounds like Arcuri will be on the Victoria Derbyshire programme at 9am? Someone behind the ITV programme last night saying that he won’t confirm sources but there was a 4 yr affair and that the lawyers had given the programme a thorough review before airing.

Mistigri · 18/11/2019 07:44

Overnight the reaction to the Arcuri interview seems to have been surprisingly muted give how incendiary the claims are (or facts, since this has had lawyers crawling all over it). But with a bit of luck this one will run and run.

Found a tool to help students work out where best to exercise their vote:

yolofish · 18/11/2019 08:00

Arcuri has just been on GMB getting a surprisingly gentle grilling. Didnt hear it all but suspect if was Not Good from BJ pov.

Peregrina · 18/11/2019 08:17

(As an aside they live in a Tory/lib dem marginal so I'm now having to try to pursuade them to vote tactically for lib dem 🙄)

Even if not, it will be one less vote for the Tory candidate.

Apileofballyhoo · 18/11/2019 08:39

Definitely relationship as in they were a couple tobee.

Peregrina · 18/11/2019 08:44

Luckily for Johnson, all the papers bar the Express are going with the Prince Andrew story. The Royals can probably afford to take some of the pressure from him, although I can't imagine that Johnson has endeared himself to the Queen.

The Express is an exception, going with Tory tax cuts for Business. No doubt it will help some voters make up their minds to vote Tory; it probably won't sway the majority.

When I asked
@andrealeadsom
how the Conservatives would pay to cut business rates she replied "You're assuming that money comes from somewhere." Well, yes ...

bellinisurge · 18/11/2019 08:51

I heard that @JustAnotherPoster00 . Hi-fucking-larious. She is the gift that keeps on giving.

Peregrina · 18/11/2019 08:56

The Guardian is doing their bit, reporting a previous relationship that he didn't declare when London Mayor. Will anything stick to him, to bring him down?

QueenOfThorns · 18/11/2019 09:00

Hmmm. No sign of Arcuri on the BBC News front page Hmm

JustAnotherPoster00 · 18/11/2019 09:01

Anyone seen that Lorraine Kelly take down on Jennifer Acruri? What was the point in you coming on, you didnt answer any of the questions that were put to you......Shock

fedup21 · 18/11/2019 09:18

No mention of Acruri on the BBC news app!

lonelyplanetmum · 18/11/2019 09:19

Incredulous Shockat both the Andrew and Jennifer Arcuri interviews:

  1. The prince basically implied the victim was lying about him sweating in a nightclub because he didn't have the ability to sweat at the time.
  1. Arcuri said in the later stages of her contact with the PM he refused to take her calls and implied that 'someone' came on the phone pretending to speak Chinese. Presumably that was the PM himself.

Unless I misunderstood -we have a prime minister who answers the phone speaking fake mandarin when he is trying to dump a mistress of over four years?

Peregrina · 18/11/2019 09:22

Oh what a card he his! This will just cause him to go up in the estimation of those who put him in power.

She's just a woman scorned. Not that it does to have too many of those around - those of you old enough will remember Cecil Parkinson and Sarah Keays - his dumping her when pregnant ruined his promotion chances which he was full of self-pity about.

He problem really thinks there are Mandarins in Whitehall.

Dusty01 · 18/11/2019 09:32

No mention of Arcuri on Radio 4 this morning. Unless I missed it. Is this part of purdah? It should be reported shouldn’t it?

BigChocFrenzy · 18/11/2019 09:44

"Liberal Democrats pledge 500% council tax rise for people who keep houses empty"

That is a policy that could actually make a difference

The problem is though that Council Tax doesn't really reflect the value of the property
so e.g. it won't affect the Russian and Chinese multi-zillionaires buying up entire luxury developments in London and keeping them empty

However, it should help the "normal" market in rUK and no policy can handle everything
Good start, imo

David Gauke@DavidGauke

My interview with the Observer and
why I think a Conservative majority will mean a ‘no deal’ Brexit in January 2021.

https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/16/voters-choice-tory-no-deal-or-second-referendum?

Gauke, who resigned from the Conservative party last week and will fight the South West Hertfordshire seat he has represented since 2005 as an independent,
told the Observer

it would be “impossible” for a Tory government to conclude a complex agreement with the EU within such a short time,
meaning no-deal would be inevitable, as Boris Johnson would refuse to extend the transition period.

It was just before 7am this morning - R4 Today spoke to the journalist / presenter of last night’s ITV programme.

It is on the BBC website, but tucked away under Election 2019 Hmm

2019 general election constituency opinion polls

https://www.markpack.org.uk/160336/2019-general-election-constituency-opinion-polls/amp/?

Here are all the constituency opinion polls published for the 2019 general election.

Note in particular how big the swings often are from the 2017 general election,
making the 2017 election results a poor guide to tactical voting choices in many heavily Remain areas.

How do they get info for the poll predictions? I have never been asked? I’ve never even been asked as part of an exit poll!

"all" as in all available, rather than "all constituencies in the UK", that is ...
