Westministenders: Promises, promises

BigChocFrenzy · 17/11/2019 17:46

We should see the party manifestos soon
in 2017, that changed the election

So far, Tory and Labour have been competing for who can offer the most spending on the NHS

Labour have been giving tantalising glimpses of free dental care and free broadband

The Tories have been hinting at tax cuts, as well as public spending

The polls suggest the public like all of the above,
but also that Brexit is the most important issue

25 days to go, still all to play for

Polls are for scrolling

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 21:24

My DH works for the NHS and is far more concerned about a Tory Brexit than a second referendum.

Random18 · 17/11/2019 21:30

Ohlook I am amazed at how much the kids pick up from watching the news. And maybe the odd comment I have to make around the house.

Neither of mine are fans of BJ or Trump Grin

HeyNotInMyName · 17/11/2019 21:35

PMK.
I'm not able to follow the full thread those days but still catching up some bits and pieces.

TatianaLarina
insufficient BAME students to qualify as truly multicultural...
Oxford = 18% BAME and only 2.5% black. Ie 88% white. (corrected to 82% in a later post)

Actually 82% white students isn't be too bad as a percentage, seeing that the population of the country is 87.1% white. (And 3% black.) If the Oxford student body is 18% BAME it's doing better than the country, which is 12.9% BAME.

What is disgusting is that ANYONE who is a member of the Union, whatever their colour, was dragged out by the legs. It's common assault and should be prosecuted as such.

mrslaughan · 17/11/2019 21:45

From what I have seen the Jennifer Acura interview is 11pm tonight?
That is very late for a scoop....... it's almost like, once they had the scoop, they don't really want anyone to watch it.....

This is a great montage of how well things have gone on the campaign trail for BJ this week.

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 21:57

The issue was not a question of good or bad, but what makes a PWI - predominantly white institution.

What is disgusting is that ANYONE who is a member of the Union, whatever their colour, was dragged out by the legs. It's common assault and should be prosecuted as such.

Why are you trying to minimise the racial aspect of this? Do you not get the context?

Alsohuman · 17/11/2019 21:59

Fortunately, there’s catch up TV so the timeslot isn’t much of a problem. Having watched one rich, powerful scumbag eviscerated last night, I’m more than ready to see another. It’s strangely addictive.

The Iain Duncan Smiths - "Girlfriend in a Coma (She's Fit for Work)"

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/11/2019 22:08

There is a larger proportion of BAME students at Oxford University, according to your figures, than the proportion in the country overall. I don't see that as being a blot of Oxford.

The country is predominantly white, after all, for all the alarmist crap about being taken over by (whoever is the Evil Immigrant this week).

Would it have been disgusting if a white man who was a Union member had been dragged out by the legs? Yes. Would it have been disgusting if a white woman etc? Also yes. That it was a black man doesn't make it worse; it is as bad as it would have been if it had been done to anyone at all. I do not see that it is more acceptable to behave illegally and horribly to someone who is not white: do you?

That it was done to someone who is blind does magnify the offence considerably as far as I am concerned.

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 22:17

Again, my point was not about blots simply the fact that it is a PWI. It’s majority white, there’s no argument about that.

That it was a black man doesn't make it worse; it is as bad as it would have been if it had been done to anyone at all.

Seriously?

Mistigri · 17/11/2019 22:18

This is not at all surprising actually. Nearly 45% of Oxford students are international students (and about 40% of staff have a foreign passport).

Sostenueto · 17/11/2019 22:37

PMK and thanks! And glad a new thread!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/11/2019 22:52

Seriously, TatianaLarina. I don't see that it would have been better if it had been done to a blind white man. Would it have been ok to drag any blind man out by the ankles? If not, then why is it better or worse by colour or creed or whatever other criterion?

Mistigri, in that case it is less of a PWI than the UK is. Not that it makes any difference to the absolute wrongness of dragging anyone at all around by the ankles, let alone someone who is blind.

mybrainhurtsalot · 17/11/2019 22:56

I skimmed the intro and thought I read North but having looked again I think they are midlands.

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 23:10

Disingenuous colourblindness gets on my tits tbh. As does ignorance of racial history.

AutumnCrow · 17/11/2019 23:17

Watching ITV, the Jennifer Arcuri interview. Serious allegations being made about Johnson.

AutumnCrow · 17/11/2019 23:22

Programme makers (Exposure, John Ware) unequivocally alleging a 'sexual relationship'.

Sostenueto · 17/11/2019 23:22

Oops! Boris didn't pay her enough then!

sunglasses123 · 17/11/2019 23:30

My DS is 22 and is voting for Boris. I get that the Labour supporters try all excuses as to why they don’t win elections i.e the undecided did vote, the young didn’t vote but I see a Conservative majority on 12 December. Corbyn, McDonnell are just nutters who want a socialist experiment on the UK. They keep mentioning Korea? Why? They are nothing like the UK.

AutumnCrow · 17/11/2019 23:39

Clever timing of this Exposure programme. Johnson won't have time to scramble and brief his usual media machine for the breakfast show reactions.
