Westministenders: Promises, promises

We should see the party manifestos soon
in 2017, that changed the election

So far, Tory and Labour have been competing for who can offer the most spending on the NHS

Labour have been giving tantalising glimpses of free dental care and free broadband

The Tories have been hinting at tax cuts, as well as public spending

The polls suggest the public like all of the above,
but also that Brexit is the most important issue

25 days to go, still all to play for

The Lib Dem remainer is concerned about what happens to democracy if the Lib Dem's get in and revoke Brexit. They were thinking of voting Conservative 'to get Brexit done'. They weren't sure about Labour's policy.

I would imagine that’s an extremely fringe opinion for LD Remainer!

ListeningQuietly · 17/11/2019 20:27

Tatiana
The OU is not or ferkin well never was a white institution
It was the bastion of debate and free speech and clear thought among the privilege
so for them to push somebody out for being either black or blind or both is disgraceful

Goodness I hate "identity politics" and snowflakes

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/11/2019 20:33

That was what I was trying to say, Listening.

Violetparis · 17/11/2019 20:34

I am very pessimistic, think we're heading for a big Tory majority. Leavers aren't changing their minds, Remainers are divided so it all feels hopeless. Can't see Corbyn turning it around like last time when he wasn't as well known. The leave voters I know all voted Labour in 2017, they won't be voting for them again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/11/2019 20:38

pmk

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 20:40

White institution = predominantly white. (PWI) Doesn’t mean every single person in it is white. It means there are insufficient BAME students to qualify as truly multicultural and usually historically white.

Oxford = 18% BAME and only 2.5% black. Ie 88% white.

FadingStar · 17/11/2019 20:42

Violet I'm not sure. The sheer amount of younger people registering to vote gives me some hope. Although I've just been arguing like a madwoman on the Daily Mail...they actually believe all the propaganda churned out on that rag.

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 20:44

Should say 82% white. ^^

Ellie56 · 17/11/2019 20:46

I'm hoping this too FadingStar.

tobee · 17/11/2019 20:50

I'm up and then down again within seconds now @FadingStar and @Violetparis. Confused

Oh dear, it wasn’t supposed to be this way... Wink

Violetparis · 17/11/2019 20:53

Would love my pessimism to be wrong FadingStar. We need the young uns to get out and vote !

Hoooo · 17/11/2019 20:55

Scroll on by....🎶🎵

Mistigri · 17/11/2019 20:56

Don't forget the scroll button Wink

I've been working all day but about to go and see what twitter thinks about the news today. Anything new on the Arcuri story?

FadingStar · 17/11/2019 20:59

Same here Violet. Hah yes Tobee...fluctuating constantly. When I think to the million+ people at the PV march, the young people registering and people making their voices heard on social media (rather than the pathetic propaganda churned out by MSM) then I wonder if we might get a Christmas miracle.Grin

Mistigri · 17/11/2019 20:59

Probably shouldn't have looked. Gove is a fucking scumbag racist isn't he?

FadingStar · 17/11/2019 21:00

I can't imagine many of the newly registered will be voting Tory Ellie!!Grin

lljkk · 17/11/2019 21:01

Someone I work with was a LD party member, voted Remain in 2016, but has resigned from LDs (resigned back in 2018, even) b/c , he said, he plays football with a lot of people who voted Leave & he thinks that majority decision should be respected.

I don't think he'll vote LD again.
So confusing.

I’ve watched the footage. It’s absolutely disgraceful. I can see no justification for the manhandling of a blind black man out of a white institution

Watched that this morning. Absolutely gobsmacked that other students just sat there and allowed a disabled black student to be assaulted.

thecatfromjapan · 17/11/2019 21:04

💐

HesterThrale · 17/11/2019 21:10

Don’t all these opinion polls have to be adjusted for the Don’t Knows? It does change the figures quite a lot.
There was a brilliant poster who could do that...

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 21:11

Watched that this morning. Absolutely gobsmacked that other students just sat there and allowed a disabled black student to be assaulted.

My feelings exactly. I rewatched it because it thought someone must have have done something but no. They all sat there like lemmings.

TatianaLarina · 17/11/2019 21:13

Lemmings is not the right analogy, but it turns out they don’t run off cliffs anyway.

Peregrina · 17/11/2019 21:17

This person works for the NHS. But they are really concerned about the damage a second referendum would do.

I think I would have raised an eyebrow at that and asked if they thought a second referendum would be more damaging than the destruction of the NHS. The Tories are doing that now by stealth, despite not having won the last election, so God knows what they would do if they actually won.
