Hope she says no!

Why is it inappropriate? Nothing in your post explains why.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/08/2019 09:58

Bollocks. While shops can still re-stock it won't cause shortages.

verticality · 28/08/2019 09:58

This is going to be the biggest constitutional crisis for many, many, many decades.

Everyone who is opposed to a no deal exit needs to get out on the streets and protest if Parliament is prorogued.

Iggly · 28/08/2019 09:58

Parliament is a fundamental part of our democracy. It’s part of the balance of power and helps to stop governments doing what they like.

Surely those who have voted for Brexit can see that it’s an incredibly divisive issue and, as a result, it needs a pragmatic response.

Driving through a no deal Brexit is appalling and the reason why they’re doing it is because they don’t have a credible basis for a deal.

We trade with the EU and it makes sense to have a deal.

However while we argue about Brexit, our public services continue to fall apart. It’s a waste of time and a distraction.

Why is it appropriate, that’s the question I want answered.

Camomila · 28/08/2019 09:59

I wander what the queen will do?!

averylongtimeago · 28/08/2019 10:00

The Queen will do as she's told.

Lonelycrab · 28/08/2019 10:01

Hope the the Queen tells him to naff orf.

MockersthefeMANist · 28/08/2019 10:01

You know how it's always wrong to say anything that isn't just like the Nazis is just like the Nazis?

Well this is just like the Nazis. Use a dodgy plebicite to shut down parliament.

All we need now is for some absent-minded workman on the scaffolding to let a blow-torch slip and ooops, parliament burned down. It was that Jeremy Corbyn, he did it, etc....

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 10:02

@BubblesBuddy , why is food I bought six months ago hoarding? This discussion has been on MN for over a year with ideas shared etc. Just because you haven't thought about it before or see it as some sort of act of patriotism not to, that's on you.

MyOtherProfile · 28/08/2019 10:04

This news has made me feel sick. How does get away with any of the things he does? He should be in prison, not screwing up our democratic system.

meditrina · 28/08/2019 10:05

The Queen will do what her government requests.

It would be a different league of constitutional crisis if the relationship between monarch and government were to change

WTF0ver · 28/08/2019 10:07

I actually said "What the hell!" out loud upon reading this in a hotel lobby. What a fucking shambles.

MockersthefeMANist · 28/08/2019 10:07

The Queen acts on the advice of her ministers. She has the right to advise, to encourage and to warn.

So now it's down to the Tory backbenchers, remainers and no No-Dealers, to do the right thing and join with the opposition to defend the nation.

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/08/2019 10:10

The history books will not be kind to Cameron and Boris. The Eton boys who have screwed our country.

I'm feeling a bit panicky - exactly the same feeling I had on the morning of the referendum results.

verticality · 28/08/2019 10:11

OK, can someone help me understand the implications of this? If parliament is prorogued, the legislative route to stopping no deal is useless, right? Is a vote of no confidence also useless?

jasjas1973 · 28/08/2019 10:13

People who have enough money to hoard food etc will ensure shortages for less fortunate people. So don’t do it. Be reasonable. Prices will go up and that’s making it difficult for others too

Many of those people voted for brexit, so who cares?

One thing the tories have taught me is that they do not govern for the poor and vulnerable.

Don't people stocking up, blame the people who have brought this upon us and those who voted for it.

Tonnerre · 28/08/2019 10:14

There was a suggestion on the news this morning that if Johnson did this, Parliament would simply continue elsewhere. I hope it does.

SistemaAddict · 28/08/2019 10:14

Ooooh @TheElementsSong brexit bingo again! Us preppers that prepped m

SistemaAddict · 28/08/2019 10:14

Months ago are causing shortages now. I'm glad I bought a good supply of dabbers Wink

MockersthefeMANist · 28/08/2019 10:15

It means less time to get their act together. Makes legislation far less likely, and so more talk of a No-Confidence vote.

Bozza about to address the nation. Possibly to annouce martial law and the indefinite detention of all EU collaborators.

berlinbabylon · 28/08/2019 10:16

YY to both of these. For those of you not in London at all/very often, the Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) is surrounded in scaffolding at the moment. It would be very easy for an accident to happen.

However maybe this is enough to give the remain/soft Brexiter MPs enough of a kick up the bottom to work together and sort this out. I am hoping that minds far cleverer than mine have been working on this over the summer.

Iggly · 28/08/2019 10:18

It could be because there’s a snap election coming.

But that sits at odds with the 31 October deadline.

Although it could force a no deal even if the Tories failed to win this election - because there’d be so little time to do anything.

The other option is to Brexit with Theresa May’s deal.

To be honest, the referendum was based on dodgy campaigns (people think this is fine because they knew what they were voting for, fucks sake) so it should have been binned and redone.

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/08/2019 10:18

I've had a brexit stash going on for years. It's slowly rotated to stop it going out of date.

Before brexit it was the zombie apocalypse stash.

cherin · 28/08/2019 10:21

In the meantime, the £ is losing value again
