Hope she says no!

Thanks Jaffacakebeast.

So if the Queen says nothing, does he have to wait for her or is it more 'I'm asking to be polite but don't care what the answer is'

ghostofharrenhal · 28/08/2019 11:24

Not much else we can do MargoLovebutter it's out of our control.

Jaffacakebeast · 28/08/2019 11:29

More like box ticking tbh, the queen has very little authority, although it’s always said the queen could say no, in reality she never will. Very confusing setup

Graphista · 28/08/2019 11:30

Petition signed and shared.

Nicola sturgeons Twitter is going crazy with demands for Scotland to unilaterally declare independence and it really doesn't seem like all the comments are from staunch "yes" people, but many like me who were "no" or undecided at time of indyref have had enough.

Utterly disgusting betrayal of the electorate.

RuggerHug · 28/08/2019 11:33

Ah I see, thanks. What a bloody mess..

verticality · 28/08/2019 11:40

" how can there be a VONC if parliament is prorogued?"

There will be a few days where it is sitting.

Phimma · 28/08/2019 11:40

Good on Johnson, let's remember the country voted leave so the remainer MPs should remember who pays their wages!

MarshmallowManiac · 28/08/2019 11:42

Sure Madge is secretly a Remainer Smile hopefully she'll refuse General Bozo and we'll be fiiiiiiiiine (or not)

ghostofharrenhal · 28/08/2019 11:42

Yes, Phimma good on Johnson for creating a constitutional crisis. Don't be so sure he's on your side, BTW. There may be more to this than meets the eye, Johnson is a slippery bugger.

greentheme23 · 28/08/2019 11:43

Please sign the petition and stop this dictatorship! The worlds gone mad!

MargoLovebutter · 28/08/2019 11:45

Phimma did those who voted leave, vote to crash out without a deal? I thought leavers wanted more power for the UK parliament - not less!!!! Jesus, the cognitive dissonance any leaver has to use to think that proroguing parliament is a good idea blows my mind.

Jux · 28/08/2019 11:47

Is it really a constitutionalcrisis, ghost? I agree BJ is a slippery bugger. It wouldn't surprise me if he's covering up something completely unthought of. Of course, he may just be seeing how far he can go, "just playing mum honest" sort of thing.

Phimma · 28/08/2019 11:50

It matters not a jot what you all say on here. The fact remains, the country voted leave, deal or no deal.

Johnson has at least got the balls, no pun intended, to carry through the democratic wish of this country.

As for NS, words fail me.

ghostofharrenhal · 28/08/2019 11:50

Jux I'd say it is because of the uproar it is creating amongst politicians and in the country as a whole! I reckon you are right though, this coudl be a cover for something else or he coudl be seeing how far he can push it. People like Phimma are a bit deluded to think that Johnson gives a shit about anyone but himself and his ego.

Phimma · 28/08/2019 11:53

The insults start as soon as anyone disagrees.

Shame you all can't have a debate without insulting those who disagree with you.

cherin · 28/08/2019 11:53

He’s a genius. A genious of evil, but genius.
Read the comments on the BBC, he’s got raving support.

Two outcomes:
A) Parliament sits between 14 and 31.10, he gets hit by all sorts of shit but manages to brexit, he calls a GE (or gets a VNC and gets a GE, same thing), the GE is before the real mess starts to hurt people, he wins by a landslide and Pronto! he’s annihilated the brexit party, stays in power, the sunny uplands await (or not, but he’s saved his party and gets a monument)
B) something clogs the machine, but he can blame others “because he tried with all his power”. The current mess in opposition parties doesn’t convince me at all, so I’d be pessimistic and imagine at the next GE it’d be a coalition between BP and tories. Beyond that, it gets fuzzy. It resembles a bit an English-speaking version of the Salvini-Di Maio duo, so if i was you I’d be worried.

Either way, I personally think we’re fucked. And I’m really, really sorry.

MargoLovebutter · 28/08/2019 11:54

A cover for what though?

All those rich fuckers in BoJo's inner circle have spent the last few years filling up their off-shore funds, moving investments out of the UK and so on. There are always economic winners in grim downturns and I think they all intend to be!!!!

MockersthefeMANist · 28/08/2019 11:59

Maybe Queenie could pop out of the french windows at the back for a spot of deerstalking, leaving the Moggster sat waiting in the car with Nanny?

Notonthestairs · 28/08/2019 12:10

Phimma I know Leavers who are equally outraged - they didn't vote for No Deal and certainly didn't vote to shut down Parliament. It's not just Remainers who are angry.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/08/2019 12:11

The Queen would be most unwise to try to stop any legal actions, which prorogue is

She could - and should - intervene if MPs have a Vote of No Confidence and choose a new PM to replace BJ, who refuses to go,
especially as the Speaker would almost certainly side with MPs and state that the new PM is the valid one

Unfortunately, the British Constitution relies on governments having scruples and not taking certain legal actions
Clearly inadequate for leaders of hard left or hard right parties - which is exactly when we need protection from abuses of power the most

David Gauke@DavidGauke (Tory ex-minister)

Put to one side your views of a no deal Brexit.

Imagine that Jeremy Corbyn is PM, pursuing a policy that is unpopular in Parliament & in the country.

At a crucial moment he finds a way to evade Parliamentary scrutiny for several weeks.

This is a dangerous precedent.

Graphista · 28/08/2019 12:25

Phimma this is NOT just about the looming disaster that is brexit (which even by the fraudulent standards it was "achieved" only got a claimed VERY slim majority - almost half the country DID NOT want brexit at the time of the referendum and not all leave voters wanted a no deal brexit, not by a long way!)

It is about democracy and the rights of us the people of the U.K. To have truly democratic representation in parliament at all times.

It is about it being completely unacceptable for Johnson to stage a coup and install himself as a dictator in a country with a long, proud history of democracy.

It is about not wanting people starved, hurt, killed by his actions.

It is about NOT tanking the £ and our economy being fucked for centuries from this point on.

Unless you & those you DO care about (as you clearly don't care about those of us likely to be affected first from this complete clusterfuck) are EXTREMELY independently wealthy & in good health with the ability to bugger off out of uk if it DOES all go completely tits up you are naively and ignorantly supporting harm to yourself and your loved ones likely within the next 3-6 months.

Personally I am beginning to care less and less for the likely harm coming to those who are supporting this bullshit, but it seriously fucks me off that those people really so very clearly don't give one shiny shit about anyone but them & theirs, especially if those "other" people don't agree with them and DARE to be rightfully and understandably concerned that this fucking mess is going to cause them & their loved ones and others who are less able to help/protect themselves from the worst outcomes of all this to become starved, sick and yes DEAD!

I am on medication that if I stop "cold" can make me very ill/dead, I have relatives on many medications that are keeping them alive and who NEED to eat to safely take those meds and stay alive, or plain need to eat to manage their condition in the case of the diabetics. But hey, fuck em they voted remain right?!

Give me Fucking strength!!

ithinkmycatistryingtokillme · 28/08/2019 12:44

What happens if MPs ignore the suspension and try to meet anyway?

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 28/08/2019 12:45

TechnicallyRon
@TechnicallyRon
Nothing quite says SOVEREIGNTY like an leader elected by 0.2% of the population shutting down government to push through something only 34% of the country got tricked into wanting by a lie on a bus.

tomtom1999xx · 28/08/2019 12:48

Excellent!

Because all that’ll happen otherwise is remainers will keep on using whatever means they can to stop brexit & go against the referendum result.

Well done Boris.

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 12:54

@tomtom1999xx foolish to think this will stop people trying to avoid No Deal.
