Hope she says no!

Someone online said that the only reason people are pushing for No Deal is to avoid defining the relationship with the EU up front.

Because as soon as they start to try and define it, all of the opposing camps (within the Leave camp, I’m not even talking about remainers) start arguing about it.

So I suspect the idea is to leave the EU and then try and negotiate a deal - which I am willing to bet - will include aspect which will remarkably include a lot of the things people have argued about for the last three years.

I think the idea is more to crash out and create chaos, then to win a majority at a General Election thanks to idiot populists, then to have a massive bonfire of workers' rights, environmental regulations, and human rights while reconstructing the economy along ferociously neoliberal lines... and the idiot populists will STILL find a way of blaming immigrants for problems that are structural and economic in nature.

True.

Sadly

Does anyone even want an election?

Brenda from Bristol will love one. Grin

Phimma · 28/08/2019 16:36

The Queen agrees with BJ.

Thank goodness for common sense.

Coppersulphate · 28/08/2019 16:39

Good for Boris. It is about time we had a PM who is prepared to stand up to the EU instead of cowering before them.
He is honouring the result of the referendum and it is about time.
The remain leaning HoC is simply ignoring the referendum. I bet they all wish they had voted for the WA. 👏👏👏👏👏

greentheme23 · 28/08/2019 16:41

Time to take my skills elsewhere. The country is well and truly fucked!

verticality · 28/08/2019 16:41

The Queen's personal views have very little to do with this. Her role as a non-political head of state would have made it very difficult to say no.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure she's Remain. Her outfit for the state opening of Parliament in 2017 was about as explicit a signal as it is possible for her to give without crossing the line into political interference.

MockersthefeMANist · 28/08/2019 16:42

The Queen agrees with BJ.

The Queen does no such thing. She is known to be very pro-union, and this is going to break up the UK.

Coppersulphate · 28/08/2019 16:42

Oh I certainly give a "shit" about democracy.
The democratic will of the adult citizens of the UK was to leave the EU.
We have waited over 3 years. What on earth are you all complaining about.

Lumene · 28/08/2019 16:42

This makes me feel physically sick. Leave or remain aside, destroying democratic process is bad for us all.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/08/2019 16:44

I might be seeing in this what's not there, but I think this makes Brexit with a deal more likely.

Parliament is split, as the indicative votes showed, so this might be a way to force an agreement through.

Or I might be dreaming.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/08/2019 16:46

The democratic will of the adult citizens of the UK was to leave the EU

Look leave definitely got more votes

But without any question at all it was

The democratic will of SOME of the adult citizens

Iggly · 28/08/2019 16:46

prepared to stand up to the EU instead of cowering before them

Don’t be an absolute idiot please.

This isn’t a war so stop acting like it is.

Coppersulphate · 28/08/2019 16:51

Iggy, who mentioned wear for goodness sake.
Whatever way you look at this situation the government is simply trying to ensure that the result of the referendum is upheld.
The referendum was democratic.
For over 3 years those with a vested interest in remaining in the EU, including many MPs, have been determined to do everything in their power to stop Brexit or to delay it long enough so that we give up.
Brilliant move Boris.

Coppersulphate · 28/08/2019 16:52

War, obviously

Using language such as “standing up to the EU” makes it sound like a battle.

The EU have been very open to negotiating.

They’ve offered us extensions, help come up with an agreement.

We, the UK, were the ones who had red lines.

Not the EU

Iggly · 28/08/2019 16:53

Boris is a coward

This.

He’s running from accountability

MarshaBradyo · 28/08/2019 16:55

I admit I’m losing the thread a bit on all this but if they were going to block No Deal what did they want to replace it with?

There was still no solution / Deal they would take given indicative votes - or did they now think there would be?

MargoLovebutter · 28/08/2019 16:56

So, you're cool with crashing out without a deal Coppersulphate? Is that what you voted for?

How do you know HM agrees with BoJo Phimma? Where did she say that? I don't recall her ever expressing a political opinion, but it sounds as though you've heard it somewhere - could you point me in the right direction?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/08/2019 16:56

They’ve offered us extensions, help come up with an agreement

They did, and what they offered us didn't go through. So I hope a deal on the agreement can pass now.

MockersthefeMANist · 28/08/2019 16:56

The Conservatives lost their majority in the 2017 and were returned as largest party on a promise to leave the EU with a deal.

Who voted for Boris Johnson apart from a minority of the audience of Countdown and the Antitques Roadshow?

sheshootssheimplores · 28/08/2019 16:58

I think if he goes for an early election it will not go his way. People don’t like democracy being fucked with. You’ve only got to look back at history to see the result.
