BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:19

woman (We are maybe the unofficial MN EU Jewish-Arab Alliance Against Twats Smile )

Those 2 articles about / from the Greens ....
I had no idea Shock
Westministenders has given me another teaching moment

That is clear, institutional anti-semitism in the Greens
Totally different from "just" anti-semitic individuals, which sadly every large organisation will contain

As for "Arbeit macht frei" Angry
Unbelievable that anyone to the left of Farage thinks that's a clever title

prettybird · 28/05/2019 14:19

...and religious heritage Sad

He's obviously suspect Hmm

Disclaimer: not my personal opinion. My reasoning for him being unsuitable has sweet FA to do with either his skin colour or his religion or the religion of his parents Grin

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 14:21

Seen to be at least trying to detoxify the Home Office.

also, I'd be more impressed by results not posturing ... by now every single person affected by Windrush should have been located, contacted, compensated, and able to carry on as best they can. Anything less is pathetic in a country (noted upthread) with the economy and military power of the UK.

In the absence of such news, I'm assuming Javid has basically done fuck all about it. Except say how sorry his is when the cameras are on him.

It's all a bit Shania Twain.

howabout · 28/05/2019 14:22

DGR if that is your reasoning then you haven't been paying attention. 3 non-white newly appointed Brexit Party MEPs (London, Scotland and the South West).

What better way for the Conservative Party to detoxify Brexit than to have it delivered by Javid? Priti Patel is somewhat more divisive but would also fit the narrative.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:24

I know btl comments on the Torygraph and Fail are extreme, but they seem to lump together Javid and Sadiq Khan as the "Muslim enemy"

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 14:25

shrug

let's wait and see.

Maybe Javid will become PM and advance the position of immigrants in much the same way Mrs. Thatcher advanced the position of women under her premiership. Which frankly were the same as if she hadn't become PM at all.

SwedishEdith · 28/05/2019 14:25

But people don't vote for candidates for the BXP, they voted for what it represented. I suspect loads wouldn't have a bloody clue who the candidates were.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:26

howabout Do the Tory party members really do that kind of deep thinking ?

Or would they go for someone posh to whom they tug the forelock .... and who they regard as "proper British"

howabout · 28/05/2019 14:26

Pinkie how do explain him ever getting selected as a candidate in the first place then? His constituency is in Worcestershire.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:30

Priti Patel as PM - or Brexit Minister - would ensure No Deal.

Ireland responded coldly to her remark about starving them

and I'm sure they'll inform any E27 Head of Gov, who didn't hear about her, just what an evil piece of work she is

There would be an early war of words, which would escalate and end with the UK flouncing out

woman19 · 28/05/2019 14:32

MN EU Jewish-Arab Alliance Against Twits
At least we can be sure of great food at our inaugural meeting. Wink
I'll bring the hummus and halvah Smile

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 14:32

Pinkie how do explain him ever getting selected as a candidate in the first place then? His constituency is in Worcestershire.

We have no idea who he was up against ...

Personally I would enjoy Javid as PM - nothing personal. Maybe he can ride the same freak chances that put Mrs Thatcher in place ?

If you want to go full "House of Cards" then Javid as the next leader/PM would be a masterstroke, as it offloads the poison chalice and ensures we're unlikely to see another non white/muslim Tory for a very long time.

But I can't see my childhood NDN (who was a Tory councillor, and still active, apparently) buying it. He stopped our street having a Jubilee party in 1977 because there were "too many p**s living there" (his words).

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:34

OK, the Tories produced the 1st - and disastrous 2nd - woman PM

and they could have produced the first Asian or black leader .....
IF the choice were solely up to MPs

Javid's chance would be either to be annointed after the others drop out,
or if MPs rig the final 2 so he is facing an obvious Remainer.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:36

woman Since we'd be a radical alliance, I'd break tradition and bring Lindt Chocolate too Wink

howabout · 28/05/2019 14:38

Re The Greens. They tend to attract "moral high ground" types imho - as with Emma Thompson not seeing the irony of jetting in to lecture the little people about climate change.

They also have a tendency to throw quite a lot under the bus as their priority pyramid is different. At the extreme we should all just starve and freeze and stop having children.

All that said I actually support a lot of their platform but would be wary of any of them individually or of voting for them.

PinkieTuscadero · 28/05/2019 14:39

I might be completely wrong and Javid will romp it! I'd be surprised but we can but wait and see.

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 14:41

OK, the Tories produced the 1st - and disastrous 2nd - woman PM

I recall back in the 80s, (when QT was worth watching) an American audience member goading Labour, noting that as the first Asian MP had been a Tory (1895) and the first party leader (and thence) Prime Minister was a Tory, what were the chances Britains first black PM would be Tory.

The Labour response was to note that generally Tory firsts are not representative of their class and tend to work to smash the ladder below them.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:41

The disgraced Peterborough ex-MP / felon was a Brexiter
and I gather the new Labour candidate is as well ?

If so, rather unwise

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 14:42

At the extreme we should all just starve and freeze and stop having children.

1 out of 3 isn't a bad start ....

howabout · 28/05/2019 14:45

Oh and apparently James Cleverly is also entering the race.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:46

The jetting in to lecture on climate change was ridiculous, just showed contempt

Clear attitude that it is for the plebs to change their habits, not the wealthy Angry

A YouTube / Twitter message of support would have done the job instead

tobee · 28/05/2019 14:51

Hazard🤞

howabout · 28/05/2019 14:51

Watching Thatcher on BBC2 last night. I am struck by how much she influenced my teenage self. I never questioned my right / responsibility / ability to smash the glass ceiling. Deeply depressing that the minute Blair and his babes came to Power thinking started going backwards.

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 14:51

Trivial, but I just noticed:

The South East voted for two MEPs called Alexandra Phillips:
A Faragist and a Green

Did the SE just like the bloody name ! 😂

So the SE chose more MEPs named Alexandra Phillips than belonged to Labour or Tory !
