"I voted Green, and they give me the heeby jeebies. They are very anti semitic

@woman19 Really? Where did you get that from?

@BigChocFrenzy. Why are you taking such a blanket, quite probably libellous, statement on face value?

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 11:31

What statement ?

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 11:32

If CrispinBlunt's, I'm just quoting his tweet

If it isn't his view, then he shouldn't tweet it

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 11:33

and we've heard many similar views about using Ireland as a hostage
e,g, Priti Patel "starving them out"

Oakenbeach · 28/05/2019 11:34

The next test for Farage is the Peterborough by election. His best chance would be if he was putting up an ex-Tory MP. I don't know if that is the case, but I see that the field is crowded. I could see this being a night where the Tory gets in and the party breathes a sigh of relief.

The Tories have no chance in Peterborough, none at all. They came a poor 4th, nearly 5th there in the EU elections with 1/4 of Brexit Party vote, and we’ll behind Labour and LD.

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 11:35

ERG tweet shows again that Brexiters regard the RoI as a HOSTAGE which should be used

I wonder how that plays out in the U.S of A. ?

Oakenbeach · 28/05/2019 11:36

What statement?

That the Greens are very anti-semetic

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 11:36

Priti Patel "starving them out"

I guess her family will be proud she learned so much of her own heritage then ?

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 11:38

If Ireland feels pressured over the backstop, then I expect them to call in US friends in the Congress and elsewhere

Ireland started preparing for this as soon as Cameron announced his totally irresponsible referendum,
their diplomats working full out to corner support from the E27 - and outside too

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 11:40

I've "known" woman for quite a while, so if she - as a Jew - has found the Greens anti-semitic, then I believe her

BigChocFrenzy · 28/05/2019 11:43

Being mixed race, I've had some people indignantly "explaining" to me that incidents I experienced weren't racism

I don't let them persuade me to deny my own experiences

woman19 · 28/05/2019 11:45

Really? Where did you get that from
Cato's essay is interesting. The title is beyond offensive.

Just google it............ There's loads.

Alex Wickham@alexwickham
Lot of chatter among MPs this morning about Rory Stewart being a “suicide bomber” for Michael Gove

Suspicion is that despite the fun twitter vids Rory is a not a genuine candidate, his pitch is not seriously designed to win and he has next to no MPs

MPs think his sole intention is to attack Brexiteers and make Gove look like a moderate unifier

Rory and Gove are friends and both their campaigns are closely linked to the Onward think tank. It is widely expected Rory will endorse Gove when he is knocked out in the first round

A Raab backing MP says of Rory: “He’s turning his fire on Boris for now but we expect it will be Dom next. He calls himself a unifying candidate while attacking the views of half the Tory party. Once he’s done his dirty work we expect him to back Gove and be offered a plum job."

(Goes without saying this is all denied by team Gove)

It's getting nasty already.

And its highly unlikely that Stewart would ever back Johnson nor Raab regardless of whether its a deliberate strategy.

Plus it could be a reverse preemptive smear upon Stewart and Gove by Teams Johnson and Raab, because Gove and Stewart represent things that they themselves don't possess.

I don't really care who is doing it to who tbh. It's obvious its a reality v ideology argument that's going to colour everything throughout the contest and is no different to the last 3 and half years.

There is anti-semitism in all sectors of society. Are Greens and Labour particularly bad? Worse than the Tories? Worse than Farage's Brexiters?(I know we must not call them anti-semitic- they are so pure I wonder why they haven't grown wings and flown up to heaven) Grin.

I assume that it's grown hugely since the Referendum result - and that people are now expressing views they once kept quiet and others who had no strong views are falling in with the crowd.

RedToothBrush · 28/05/2019 11:53

Rory has already replied

Rory Stewart @ Rorystewart
Putting aside the fact that your suicide metaphor sits a bit awkwardly for someone who was in Iraq and Afghanistan - I’m not running tactically - I am running on principle and because I believe we can unify this country and make it a much better place - why don’t they debate me?

Alex Wickham @alexwickham
as you can see from the quote marks, not my metaphor...

Something about Rory certainly has Raab and Johnson rattled in one way or another that's for sure!!!!

They're bitchier than any group of teens could be. Stewart is the only one I don't have an overwhelming desire to pelt with rotten veg.

DGRossetti · 28/05/2019 11:58

I wonder if the "weird crush" (MN passim) has spooked them ?

DGR it's not just MN.

The Last Leg had a thing on Stewart on Friday. And liked him.

And twitter has a large amount of support for him too.

All from the 'wrong quarters' naturally enough. Women, younger people and more liberal leaning.

He can clearly reach places that Raab and Johnson are never going to reach.

They of course will want to kill him off ASAP. And if he's likely to go team Gove, smear in the process cos he's getting the wrong kind of attention.

It says much.

I suspect that Stewart could be the next Tory Leader but one, after Raab/Johnson/whoever make a complete F* up. Then they might just come to their senses. What happened to strong and stable?

Piggywaspushed · 28/05/2019 12:07

The Tories absolutely do have a chance in Peterborough : it's Labour marginal and Labour is tainted by the outgoing MP's antics and , also, their Brexit position which is not very Peterborough...

I have noticed their candidate is a Brexiteer.

But I do suspect BXP might win. Another millionaire Man of the People.

PinkieTuscadero · 28/05/2019 12:09

You may be right, Peregrina. And that may be his preference too.

StripeyChina · 28/05/2019 12:16

That's my MP supporting BoJo then :(
