Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

I wish I could say that I can't believe that we're still in such deep slurry - but sorry to say that we're exactly where I expected us to be, given who is directing us Sad

Just posted this so posting it again here...but W.T.F. do the DUP think they are? I so wish SF would take their seats for just a week or two.

EXCLUSIVE DUP demands seat at the table in future EU trade talks as price for backing May's deal www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/03/16/dup-demands-seat-table-future-eu-trade-talks-price-backing-mays/?WT.mc_id=tmg_share_tw … via @telegraphnews

NEW The DUP demand is in two parts:

  1. the EU will not treat Northern Ireland and Britain differently in terms of the customs union and single market after Brexit;
  2. DUP MPs will be "deeply involved" in the UK Government negotiating team over the future trade deal with the EU.

Thanks to all those who have sent nice messages about my decision. I hadn’t intended to announce it until tomorrow but ‘better out than in’ as my stepmother says. Thanks to @ShippersUnbound for being so understanding!

PMQ bet the DUP get what they want, or at least a promise of it. Anything to get her deal through and keep Corbyn out.

OogieMcBoogie · 16/03/2019 23:18

PMK, thanks Red

Tom Newton Dunn @tnewtondunn
Nick votes for PM’s Brexit deal at every time of asking, and gets forced out. Boris doesn’t, and maximises his chance of being leader. Funny old business these days is politics.

bet the DUP get what they want, or at least a promise of it

And if they believe her promise then they're even stupider than they look. How many people has she double crossed now? And once she's gone ... does anyone believe that the headbanger who takes over will honour whatever agreements she made?

If the DUP have any sense at all they'll only back this deal because they want to - not because she has lied to them they think she'll give them anything for it. And they don't want to back this deal.

Kyle amendment still alive, apparently

EXCL: Here is the final text of the Kyle-Wilson amendment, tweaked after input from Keir Starmer.

It will be tabled on MeaningfulVote3 this week and Labour will whip for it.

It aims to get May's deal over the line in Parliament - but only if it is then put to a referendum.

Excl: On Thursday Peter Kyle and Phil Wilson met Jeremy Corbyn and had a "very constructive" discussion about the amendment, Keir Starmer told the Sunday Telegraph. (He and John McDonnell were also in the meeting)

Tory MP Phillip Lee is a lead signatory on the Kyle amendment. More than 10 Tory ministers have expressed interest.

Independent Group MPs also tell me they will back it (after their own 2nd referendum amendment was defeated last week).

So tonight I had a long conversation with people including a geniuely politically aware leftie Remainer who thinks we should no deal. She gave me her reasons and logic. And yes there was a justification based on logic...

... Its fascinating how opinions and positions have slipped
