Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

RedToothBrush · 16/03/2019 23:04

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

Official report into the impact of Brexit on rural Scotland includes the phrase "We are fucked"...

The lady is not for turning. Her overwhelming personality trait: doggedness.

TatianaLarina · 19/03/2019 12:59

No way would she revoke. She will do a short extension and then we will have to extend again - this time for longer.

Holidayshopping · 19/03/2019 13:00

How is she going to get one or even extensions? What reason/excuse is she going to give the EU?!

67chevvyimpala · 19/03/2019 13:03

Not news to us Robert.

DGRossetti · 19/03/2019 13:04

She will do a short extension and then we will have to extend again - this time for longer.

She may not even get that. I really can see the EU27 playing hardball - having suffered her antics long enough. She needs to come up with a good reason - that can be publicly defended, or it's "Nyet" Grin.

Imagine the UK response if the UK were still in the EU and (say) France had dicked about the way we have for three full years ????

TatianaLarina · 19/03/2019 13:07

She could just tell the truth - that she has fucked up more than any PM in living memory, no-one but the EU will accept her deal and we need more time time sort this clusterfuck out.

TalkinPaece · 19/03/2019 13:12

Reading the Economist in bed this morning - which was printed last Friday
"the WA will not be allowed to be voted on again under parliament's rules"
and then Downing street seemed surprised by what happened yesterday Hmm

ElenadeClermont · 19/03/2019 13:16

They do not read...

1tisILeClerc · 19/03/2019 13:21

{She could just tell the truth - that she has fucked up more than any PM in living memory, no-one but the EU will accept her deal and we need more time time sort this clusterfuck out.}
The EP already know this, they have been watching and waiting for 2 years or more. They will also know a whole lot of stuff that we don't, such as what Corbyn was waffling about when he went to Brussels and of course how Treesa likes her coffee when in Brussels.
It has been so blatantly obvious that the UK has just been playing games that it would be kindest to say No extension, stick the note on the table on 29th and get on with things. Dicking around will hurt everybody.

wheresmymojo · 19/03/2019 13:24

I thought the EU had already said we can only have one extension?

BigChocFrenzy · 19/03/2019 13:32

The EU have said we can't have a series of rolling extensions, but have not said we can only have 1 extension

Philippe Lamberts (Belgian MEP) suggested yesterday a short extension of say one month to enable the UK to develop a plan
and then at the end of that period another extension another discussion if required.

Fine in theory, if we thought the HoC & govt could agree a plan when they haven't so far

DGRossetti · 19/03/2019 13:38

I thought the EU had already said we can only have one extension?

The EU haven't said a thing about any extension formally, as far as I know. It's been discussed by individuals - Barnier, Tusk and Juncker. But the proper EU27 voice the one that matters has yet to speak.

All that has been said is that if the UK needed a short extension as a formality to tidy things up a bit, it would be fair to assume it would be OK'd. Anything else .... well we're back to the EU waiting (again) on what the UK has to say/do.

The one certainty in all this, is the EU cannot and will not be hoodwinked into delivering Brexit for the UK. No matter how many times Theresa May tries to reframe the debate. The irony will be lost on the cretinous Leavers, but the UK is in it's current jam as a direct result of parliament being sovereign.

DGRossetti · 19/03/2019 13:40

Philippe Lamberts (Belgian MEP) suggested yesterday a short extension of say one month to enable the UK to develop a plan

What can be done in a month that hasn't been done in two years ?

Besides, there is a plan. The WA. The UK drew it up, the UK can sodding well pass it.

67chevvyimpala · 19/03/2019 14:25

Soooooo....

We're still fucked, then?

NoWordForFluffy · 19/03/2019 14:33

My mother has been sent the no deal briefing document from her MP. It looks like it's probably drawn up by the ERG, given that he voted FOR a no deal Brexit and AGAINST an extension. He's also told my mother than he's got a problem with the backstop. Nice chap.

I can email the document to anyone who wants it.

SparklySneakers · 19/03/2019 14:36

Has anything changed re the backstop?

DGRossetti · 19/03/2019 14:40

Has anything changed re the backstop?

No. And nor will it.

Next !

BollocksToBrexit · 19/03/2019 14:41

No way would she revoke. She will do a short extension and then we will have to extend again - this time for longer.

That won't be allowed. She either has to seek a short extension which means we don't have EU elections. Or a long extension where we do have EU elections.

We won't be permitted to have another extension after a short one because then we'd be in the EU but with no MEPs and therefore the EU wouldn't be able to function under its own rules of fairness and representation.

HesterThrale · 19/03/2019 14:54

Well. The answer seems to be to take part in the EU elections. Then we have all options open to us. I never like to close off options.

It would be gratifying if UK MEPs were elected which included fewer UKIPs and maybe more Greens or something...

1tisILeClerc · 19/03/2019 15:30

{It would be gratifying if UK MEPs were elected which included fewer UKIPs and maybe more Greens or something...}

A great aspiration, to have a pro Europe Westminster and MEPs that engage with the external issues facing the EU and taking it as red that the UK wants to be a good solid partner. Unfortunately getting there from where we are is virtually impossible. Give it 20 years and just maybe.

NoSixPlease · 19/03/2019 15:44

Revoke

NoSixPlease · 19/03/2019 15:44

And resign
