Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

Really anti the Kyle amendment, disappointed to see that idea back.

It’s very confusing to the electorate that if the WA is passed - it gives a democratic legitimacy it should never have. Many will assume if it’s been voted in by Parliament then it must be ok. (My hairdresser contends that the government would never have put Brexit to the ballot if Leave wouldn’t 100% work. She also thinks Boris should be PM.)

I’ve said before it would be a sham vote. MPs who vehemently oppose May's deal allow it to pass (by abstaining) so they can then oppose it in a subsequent referendum. Logically if May's deal passes in the Commons (even courtesy of abstentions) then that should be the end of it.

Leavers will always spin Parl support for WA as proof of support for Brexit and support for May.

MPs would be voting blind with no idea of what how events will pan out or what would be on a PV ballot paper.

It’s dangerous with this authoritarian government to pass the vote but refuse to ratify without PV. What happens if the commons can’t agree on the PV terms? Or there’s a change in leadership of either or both parties. Or further party breakaways? You can be sure the Tories will search for a way to manipulate the Parliamentary seal of approval, renege on the PV or rig the PV to favour Leave.

Sent to me by Anon writer and I have to share it with you.

“29th March 2019 is going to be amazing! I’m going to wake up in my Union Jack jim-jams to the sound of a squadron of Spitfires racing overhead and leaving a trail of hot buttered crumpets behind them

I’ll run to the corner shop past all the British children who are laughing and squealing with excitement as they make a beautiful statue of the queen out of happy wriggling bulldog puppies – with two corgis for her eyebrows!

Bunting flutters everywhere and the man from the betting shop steps into the street – “Guess what! England just won the World Cup and The Ashes and The Grand National and here’s the best bit – Boris put a bet on it for everyone! you’re all MILLIONAIRES!!!”

The red arrows fly overhead dropping fish and chips as I walk into the corner shop, get my morning paper and go to the counter. “How much please?” I say to the Asian lad there. “1 pence, everything in the whole shop now costs just 1p!” he laughs, “leave it on the counter, I’m off back to Pakistan – we all are!”

And he’s right! Outside in the streets jolly old Nigel Farage is leading a huge crowd of happy foreigners – Turks, Poles, Romanians, Syrians – there’s even a few English people with heavy suntans mixed up in there! Nigel’s playing Rule Britannia on a long pipe, rather like the pipe that takes the gas into your oven, and they’re all following and smiling and talking foreign, bless them!

Just then Boris flies overhead in a Concorde made of Bank of England gold – “Don’t worry!” he laughs “I’ve cut out all the bits the French made!” and with that he crashes into the ground at 1200 miles an hour, along with the economy, the country and all the dozy nostalgic foreigner-fearing fuckwits who fell for his bullshit.

Grow up. Wake up.”

This video sums up, in 30 seconds, almost every discussion with fervent Leavers on these boards for the past 3 years.

What were her reasons and logic? A "geniuely politically aware leftie Remainer" would be how Corbyn would describe himself.

Well yes her socialist credential have a house worth not much less than Corbyn's and her logic is that we will be fine. Its somewhat based off the fact that she lives a rather sheltered life and doesn't much stray beyond the leafy suburbs or the ultra liberal metropolis.

Tbf to her, I think there's a lot of fear of the far right being unleashed by a failure to leave (though that's going to happen whether we stay or go) and she feels we need to make decisions on way or another for certainity's sake.

It's just a lot either for her to come to that conclusion than most other people because she will be cushioned.

Watching with interest. At this stage I suspect everyone in HoC is going for the salvage option (I dare not predict Corbyn's view!) whilst we all watch with bewilderment.

If May's deal fails a third time, is it officially dead in the water?

As for next weekend...I can't get to the march as I am the sole carer of a 2 and 5 year old: it would be a nightmare if they got lost and they have form for doing so.

I am glad to see Nigel's march is going so well, though. Lead by Donkeys have been magnificent.

Peregrina · 17/03/2019 10:11

The video does show a valid concern with knife crime, although how wasting money trying to leave the EU doesn't explain how it will be solved.

Peregrina · 17/03/2019 10:12

Do you think the 50p coin to 'celebrate' leaving will be quietly abandoned?

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has told Sky News the party will back an amendment tabled by Peter Kyle and Phil Wilson which aims to secure Parliament backing for Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit deal if it is subject to a referendum once he has "seen the wording"

NoWordForFluffy · 17/03/2019 10:35

We've all seen the wording, why hasn't he? 🤔🤔

I didn't know that about Nick Boles, sos
What a horrible time for him, coping with chemo and all the Brexit vote stress too, with his constituency party trying to deselect him.

Sostenueto · 17/03/2019 10:56

Not exactly enamoured with your post groovy too many stereotypical ideologies but I get the gist.
