Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

Except it's not if we crash out.

Why would we throw more money at the DUP? Are they not in breach of the initial agreement by failing to agreeing the WA already? Or were they given a free vote on such matters in the initial agreement?

Holidayshopping · 17/03/2019 12:43

If all of the conservatives and all DUP vote for Meaningless Vote iii, will that get her WA through?

Is that likely?

Violetparis · 17/03/2019 12:45

Corbyn has said Labour is not supporting Theresa May's deal at all, have no idea what this means in the context of the Kyle/Wilson amendment. Confused

Littlespaces · 17/03/2019 12:50

If all of the conservatives and all DUP vote for Meaningless Vote iii, will that get her WA through? Yes, just

Is that likely? TM would need all the stars to line up as some hardline ERG won't vote for it come what may, so she needs to bribe Labour MPs too.

HesterThrale · 17/03/2019 12:52

Going back to boycotting Dyson... when our 18-year-old Dyson 'hoover' stopped working last year, DH strongly wanted to buy a new Dyson. I said 'No way, we're boycotting'. Deadlock.

Eventually we got it fixed at a local repair workshop for £15, so were both happy, and quids in.
And it aligned with my new 'repair, re-use, recycle' mantra.

SparklySneakers · 17/03/2019 12:52

Does anyone have the link to the DUP demands in return for voting for the deal? Trying to recall to tell mum but can't remember the details.

Icantreachthepretzels · 17/03/2019 12:52

the Kyle/Wilson amendment says they will abstain on MV. So I suppose he could be correct that they are supporting Kyle/Wilson but not supporting the deal, if we get into semantics.

...or he's just talking more bollocks because he has no idea what is going on, has no plan of his own but really really wants brexit so he can turn us into Venezuela renationalise the trains.

Sostenueto · 17/03/2019 12:53

When our Dyson eventually bites the dust, we're getting a Shark cordless Grin. not that I've much of the vacuuming for the last 14 years, ever since dh made me stop the cleaner I'd just organised when I was working ft and he was working from home/studying Hmm

Sostenueto · 17/03/2019 13:02

Love photo of cat grinchly.

bellinisurge · 17/03/2019 13:03

@Grinchly - lovely overlord. Ours was just cleaning her backside and while that might be apt for our current situation, I didn't want to invade her privacy and take a photo to mark my place.

Grinchly · 17/03/2019 13:06

Thank you both!

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2019 13:20

Even the bloody chancellor gets it wrong:

Of course it's not "physically impossible" to leave on 29 March

Under A50 - international law - Brexit happens on 29 March unless May either asks the EU for an extension - and they agree - or she Revokes

It would be a chaotic Brexit, that would be very harmful to the economy, but it would happen

Hammond is just perpetuating the arrogant British belief that an HoC vote trumps international law

icannotremember · 17/03/2019 13:25

Pmk

The leaver march thing just makes me think of Stephen King's The Long Walk.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2019 13:29

I'm thinking of the Ministry of Silly Walks !
The one ministerial job that suits Farage

borntobequiet · 17/03/2019 13:33

Didn’t I say May needed JC to say/do something to piss off his more moderate MPs? Looks like he’s obliging.
When my big expensive Vax packed up I got a little Bissell vac, cost about £45, very light, excellent suction, I now vacuum more often as it’s so easy to use. Needs emptying more often but that’s no problem.

DGRossetti · 17/03/2019 13:36

Just completed a mega YouGov survey ... interestingly enough they had a few elephant trap questions which were clearly intended to enable a value to be assigned to the worthwhileness of the individual respondent. My favourites were "There are 15 members of the European Union" and "There are 100 MPs in Westminster" (True/false).

Someone, somewhere has spent a fucktonne of money on getting this information ... it was a 100 point survey and it genuinely took 15 minutes.

prettybird · 17/03/2019 13:43

I've obviously answered too many YouGov surveys with "it is highly unlikely that I will change my mind" Grin as even though I've got my settings set to "As frequently as possible", I only get a survey a week, if that! Shock

TalkinPaece · 17/03/2019 13:50

Place marking on a totally silent day for DH and I
as he's so hoarse after Science Week his voice is gone.

Saw Ardal O'Hanlon last night. He very clearly pulled a load of his anti Brexit material when the first few lines fell flat. Shame.

LonelyTiredandLow · 17/03/2019 14:03

I agree we need to be pointing out the leave march is a non-entity. As I've said before there aren't enough leavers who care at this point and many who have changed their minds would like a ladder to climb down/blame someone else. I think the £50 was for accommodation btw - which we should have realised meant hundreds would be turning up rather than thousands as even Farage can't book more beds in hotels than there are along the way!

JC - what a joke. Yes, way to piss off the moderates. Jess Phillips must be fuming with her "any Brexit is remain minus" ringing in his ears.

Today I bumped into a friend's husband who is doing a Phd in Environmental Science. He voted remain but said in his opinion the "best" thing now would be for us to crash out with no deal. His view was that the food sustainability is all off balance but the only way to make the govt do something to redress it is for prices to go up and choice to go down. He did say that it would be a decade before we could actually have the ability to get food levels sustainable and it would require govt backing and investment - the part he doubted was that this would happen under the tories. He said apparently Caroline Lucas is the most popular MP in the whole HoC which gave him hope but he sees hardly anyone votes for her. He did say that he doesn't like to assume all leavers are stupid/racist and he can see how other EU countries flout some rules (Germany more intensive farming than us, use of coal and France buying their own produce over every other country) but agreed when I said re France this just sounded like we are jealous we couldn't do the same as we don't have the produce. Anyway, I thought it was an interesting take as he works for a Dutch company and has inlaws/parents in EU. Was refreshing to talk to a remainer who had a positive, even if it is based on a wing and a prayer!

DarlingNikita · 17/03/2019 14:04

TalkinPaece, can I ask where you are/where you saw Ardal O'Hanlon? I'm interested in why anti Brexit material would fall flat – wrong audience, wrong place or are people just sick of it?

Songsofexperience · 17/03/2019 14:06

Made the mistake of listening to 10 min of Farage on LBC this morning. He compared the WA to the Treaty of Versailles! There's so much wrong with it, I don't know where to start...

LonelyTiredandLow · 17/03/2019 14:07

Oh and he said about the rubbish/waste very similar - we need infrastructure investment because at the moment it's much easier to send it on boats across the globe. Having to face up to these issues is the only way we will see long term change in his opinion.
I did say that I hope in the interim Public Health doesn't suffer as a result of bad practice. His wife is a nurse and he did mention she had many concerns already from her workplace.
