Westminstenders: Neglectful Drunkeness!

RedToothBrush · 16/03/2019 23:04

The HoC has spend the past 3 years in a state of Neglectful Drunkeness.

As it stands less then two weeks from Brexit Day, there is no deal we were promised. The Conservative and Labour Parties are more divided than ever.

The government is in disarray as 8 Cabinet ministers plus the chief whip voted against the Prime Minister including the Brexit Secretary who had minutes earlier argued for an extension only to vote against it. He is now on the brink of resignation.

The DUP look like they may be about to capitulate and vote for a deal. But it may not be enough even then.

This is what the cliff edge looks like.

Who wants to take a closer look?

This is the report they're discussing in the Select Committee.

Look at 'non dwelling investment' in the UK compared to other G7 countries on Pg 28

According to OBR there are no reasons other than Brexit why the UK would have such a shortfall and they anticipate it will take 'years' for it to come back to trend

@lonely yes experts has become a buzzword for rage.
Maybe you could also ask him if he would be willing to remortgage his home if DH looses a job as you may well need it to raise his grandchildren Wink. Only half joking.

Have they figured out that some of the tariffs are set in EURO yet? (Will look at link, was being lazy) Grin

lonelyplanetmum · 19/03/2019 11:03

Maybe you could also ask him if he would be willing to remortgage his home if DH loses a job...

It's actually a good plan B -hadn't thought of it. Slight complication is he remarried when MiL died but I'll mention it to DH.

Lol at Daniel Kawcynski on sky moaning that the speaker had stopped him voting again as he had changed his mind, whilst arguing against a second ref.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/03/2019 11:14

Then the Speaker has told them how they can set aside his decision, so why don't they just get the numbers to vote for the vote to take place?!

Loletta · 19/03/2019 11:17

Can someone please explain why for the love of God they're not voting this week?

Loletta · 19/03/2019 11:17

why are they not voting th s week

NoWordForFluffy · 19/03/2019 11:26

Because TM is a total fuckwit is my guess.

The Speaker did tell MPs how to get items before the House yesterday though, I think.

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 19/03/2019 11:26

Hello everyone.

Just..well..exhausted and not sure how I feel...

^ Should you care about the Bercow row?^
No. It’s a massive red herring distraction, that serves pretty much everybody right now - especially, as it happens, No10, because it lets PM do this 👇🏼

.A handy excuse for her, as she would have lost MV3 today or tomorrow.

Brexit latest:
Theresa May drawing up letter to Donald Tusk to formally request one 9-12 month Brexit delay,
but with an escape clause if Meaningful Vote is (ever) passed

Excl:
Tory Brexiteers threaten to go on "vote strike" and paralyse the Government if Theresa May delays Brexit by a year

Some 20 ERG members have told whips they will carry out 'vote strikes'

  • a move that would push Mrs May’s minority Government to the verge of collapse

Loletta

They need more drama and many are still believing in unicorns

Loletta · 19/03/2019 11:29

Don't get it why it would be next week that they are allowed to vote. What's happening the rest of this week then? Why is Nick Boles not stamping their feet in protest?

lonelyplanetmum · 19/03/2019 11:30

so why don't they just get the numbers to vote for the vote to take place?!
Lol at Daniel Kawcynski on sky moaning ..about voting as ... he had changed his mind

Why does no-one ever say.
"Look if this was the right thing to do there would be greater Parliamentary certainty and consensus. If this was right there would be the numbers and less flip flopping and changing of minds. If it was the right thing to do the benefits and the path would be clear and transparent."

Please....until the plan and benefits become clear and consensual and transparent let's just put it in the too- hard- for- now- box.

TWBAFood

"Propose that if we leave with no deal the state pension would be cut by 20%. See if it’s a price worth paying then."

Trouble is, that would hit those living purely on the (already inadequate) state pension, but wouldn't really hurt those fairly well-off MC private pension owners - like me Blush - who see the state pension as a handy little top-up to their income, rather than the entirety of it.

I know lots of comfortable and vociferous Leave voters in exactly that position.

Pestion: Can the prime minister find out what Brexit MPs want, NEXT WEEK?

https://www.itv.com/news/2019-03-19/can-pm-find-out-what-brexit-mps-want-next-week/

When Theresa May asks the EU's 27 government heads for a Brexit delay on Thursday, they will reply "what's it for, Mme Prime Minister?"

And the problem she's got - we've got - is she doesn't know,
as the junior Brexit minister Kwasi Kwarteng made crystal clear when questioned in the Commons yesterday.

All she has is her deal, rejected comprehensively by MPs twice and ruled as ultra vires for a third vote by the Speaker yesterday.

There is no Plan B, there never has been.

So those same EU leaders are almost certain - according to well-placed sources -
to postpone the decision on whether to grant a Brexit delay and on how long that extension would be.

They will "ask for more clarity from the UK" on the purpose of a delay.

"After all there is still a whole week to go", my source said sardonically.

The decision on a Brexit postponement would be made while the UK is clinging on to EU membership by the tips of exhausted fingers, with hours to go before the official Brexit day of 29 March.

A handy excuse for her, as she would have lost MV3 today or tomorrow.

As I pointed out earlier this morning. He’s an excellent Remainy scapegoat for Leavers for something that would probably have been pulled anyway, just look at the front pages today - and the posts on this thread last night.

Loletta · 19/03/2019 11:34

And how can anyone say that the Bercow ruling makes a long extension more likely?? Surely that makes the default I.e. no Deal more likely?

Hasenstein · 19/03/2019 11:35

Oops, x-post with BCF. These threads move so fast and I think (and type) very slowly Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 19/03/2019 11:35

Sounds like the EU are offering a short extension,
but would want a plan from the Uk before agreeing a long one

DGRossetti · 19/03/2019 11:41

Meanwhile, some gentle German trolling of their royal family Her Madge ...

www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/17509868.thousands-of-toilet-rolls-rejected-by-the-queen-donated-to-croydon-school/

More than 1000 rolls of premium German toilet paper rejected by the Queen have been donated to a Croydon school.

German company Hakle sent 90 packs of bog roll to Buckingham Palace to ensure the monarch has access to one of life's necessities in case of a 'no deal' Brexit shortage.

After the palette was turned away by security due to safety fears, a staff member of the Dusseldorf based company suggested they should gift to Woodcote High School, based in Coulsdon, where her brother Peter Mack works as Deputy Head.

(contd)

@Andrew4Pendle is in morning dress. He has a message from the Queen

What rabbit hole are we going down now?

wheresmymojo · 19/03/2019 11:55

Message from the Queen to HoC was just "thanks for the birthday wishes for him inside"

HesterThrale · 19/03/2019 12:06

lonelyplanetmum "Look if this was the right thing to do there would be greater Parliamentary certainty and consensus. Completely agree.
And I think if the Ref had had a greater majority for leaving, it would have been easier to do. Or if TM had tried to gain 'losers' consent' and compromise a bit, it would have been easier to do.

It's wrong though... it just won't work.
