Remainers will be responsible for a no deal Brexit

When Brexit happened, it seemed a shame and a mistake. As the deadline looms without any deal or consensus, however, it seems pretty clear to me that a no deal outcome will be at least partly the fault of those Remainers who have sought to catastrophise/sabotage any negotiations from the outset - in the vain hope of forcing a second vote. The latter was (IMO) never on the cards and Remainers have completely overplayed their hands, making their own worst nightmares come true. Where some level of conciliation/compromise might have led to a better & closer deal with Europe, instead we are left with a stalemate and looming no deal.

I’m not British, btw, these are my observations as an outsider.

I'm not British either. I'd say the blame is firmly on the people who voted for this fiasco in the first place.

Mrskeats · 14/02/2019 15:17

Lol is that op a wind up?

pregnantforever · 14/02/2019 15:18

Like fuck are we

Pinkginxx · 14/02/2019 15:18

Erm did you see the list of who voted against Mays deal?

Quartz2208 · 14/02/2019 15:19

Other than the referendum the British public have had no say in it at all

It will be the fault of the politicians on both sides

MamaLovesMango · 14/02/2019 15:22

Well, this is a head scratcher!

Surely the fault would lie with the Brexiteers because y’know, they voted for Brexit, so it’s happening? If remain had won, there’d be no Brexit....

bellinisurge · 14/02/2019 15:23

Any dozy fecker tries to blame me they can feck off to the other side of feck.
If the shit things that are predicated happen then it's the fault of stupid feckers for enabling it.
If we want to leave we leave like grown ups or not at all.

punishmepunisher · 14/02/2019 15:23

Jog on love.

InterchangeableEmma · 14/02/2019 15:27

Yy, the EU and remainers will be blamed for Brexit being a shit show. The blame will come from those who voted leave and can't get over winning.

Ineweverything · 14/02/2019 15:28

Makes a change from blaming Ireland. 'Irish border' 'Irish backstop'

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/02/2019 15:30

But a succession of Brexiters have been in charge of negotiations. How exactly is it Remainers' fault that those have failed?

SweetPeaHoneySuckle · 14/02/2019 15:30

Like fuck will they.
Compromise has only been from the remain side.
The intransigence of the brexiteers (and many leave voters) is entirely to blame for the situation we are now in.
The ERG refusing to let up unless No Deal remains on the table is why we are here.
I understand there will be a big push to blame anyone but themselves when the true, awful reality of no deal comes to light.
But WE ARE NOT STUPID AND WE KNOW WHO IS TO BLAME

prettypossums · 14/02/2019 15:31

There doesn’t appear to be much in the way of reasoned debate among the responses so far?

Do Remainers not feel that they have made a no deal more likely by focusing on the negatives of Brexit, rather than seeking compromises in a potential deal?

This really struck me last week when Tusk made his comments about ‘Hell’ and Remainers were almost gleefully cheering him on. I happened to be in Germany that day (I travel there frequently for work) and was speaking to colleagues there who were dismayed by his attitude because they want the EU’s adversarial approach to end. It feels like Remainers would be glad to see their own country destroyed, rather than compromise, just to be proven right.

It’s very odd to me, as an outsider.

"It feels like Remainers would be glad to see their own country destroyed, rather than compromise, just to be proven right."

As I said - remainers have not been in charge. There have been numerous attempts at compromise, all shot down.

None of us want this you know! I don't want to be proven right AT ALL - it is the hardline brexiteers and those that fund the 'No Deal, No Problem' adverts that are to blame.

Mistigri · 14/02/2019 15:36

Government never sought "losers' consent". A compromise was possible 2.5 years ago, but May drew red lines all over it.

You "winners" need to take responsibility for once in your lives.

Mistigri · 14/02/2019 15:37

And the OP is either painfully ignorant of what has happened over the last two years or is a GF.

Kintan · 14/02/2019 15:38

This is hilarious- sure blame the people who didn’t vote for Brexit. That makes so much sense OP haha!

bellinisurge · 14/02/2019 15:38

I want to be proven wrong unlike every fecking Leaver I have ever engaged with.
If you are, as you claim to be, an outsider looking in , you haven't been looking or listening very closely.

Huggybear16 · 14/02/2019 15:41

There doesn’t appear to be much in the way of reasoned debate among the responses so far?

Your question doesn't require a reasoned debate. The answer is quite simple - it's obvious who is to blame for this mess (It's not remainers).

bellinisurge · 14/02/2019 15:43

GFs out in force today.

remainymcremainface · 14/02/2019 15:43

I think you're probably just being toast but in case not, the reason for lack of compromise that is leading to imminent no deal is ERG and TM red lives on CU, freedom of movement etc.

As far as I can tell loads of remainers would grudgingly accept a Brexit that involved some kind of deal with EU, CU, SM, anything that wasn't catastrophic for the economy, but it is TM and ERG types that won't shift an inch on that, not an inch.

theknackster · 14/02/2019 15:44

The fault line through the Conservative party will be to blame for a 'no deal' Brexit. There is a majority there for a 'soft Brexit', but May daren't take that option as it would end the Conservative party as it is now.

PortiaCastis · 14/02/2019 15:44

Nope I didn't vote for the shitshow that Brexit is so don't try to blame me because I did some research and realised what would happen.
What bollocks!

HirplesWithHaggis · 14/02/2019 15:44

The Scottish Government suggested compromises. May didn't even read the document before dismissing it.

Scotland voted to remain. Fuck off blaming us.

remainymcremainface · 14/02/2019 15:44

You're being goady, not toast 😳
