Remainers will be responsible for a no deal Brexit

When Brexit happened, it seemed a shame and a mistake. As the deadline looms without any deal or consensus, however, it seems pretty clear to me that a no deal outcome will be at least partly the fault of those Remainers who have sought to catastrophise/sabotage any negotiations from the outset - in the vain hope of forcing a second vote. The latter was (IMO) never on the cards and Remainers have completely overplayed their hands, making their own worst nightmares come true. Where some level of conciliation/compromise might have led to a better & closer deal with Europe, instead we are left with a stalemate and looming no deal.

I’m not British, btw, these are my observations as an outsider.

Witchonastick · 14/02/2019 15:48

OP, I can see exactly where you’re coming from and I think you’re right.
So many were determined to try and turn the result around they’ve ended playing a part in getting us the worst of both worlds.

I’m no Brexiteer, but the result should have been excepted and all parties should have worked together.

user1471453601 · 14/02/2019 15:49

No way am I prepared to take any responsibility at all for this bloody fiascoe. I voted remain, I would like a vote based on the terms May has managed to get.

What kind of twisted logic could possibly hold me responsible for the harm this is going to do to our country?

As we say up in Yorkshire, "are you pissing up my back and trying to tell me it's raining?".

remainymcremainface · 14/02/2019 15:50

Accepted.

Do you think TM is attempting to compromise at all? How about the ERG lot? What have they given half an inch on?

remainymcremainface · 14/02/2019 15:52

I love all this "I'm a remainer but I think all remainers should have thrown themselves 100% behind the hardest possible Brexit in he spirit of compromised even though leavers have compromised absolutely nothing".

Where's the itchy chin emoji??

bellinisurge · 14/02/2019 15:55

Go say that shit in Ireland, op. See where it gets you. Or are the Irish to blame for English disaster? Again.

SinkGirl · 14/02/2019 15:57

Oh I see! I’ve been wondering how those who voted leave were going to blame everyone else when we are all up shit creek. I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t have guessed at this approach, but there we are!

BrexitIsComing · 14/02/2019 15:59

The British government are doggedly pushing on with Brexit due to "the will of the people", despite abundant & increasing evidence to indicate that it will be an unmitigated disaster. I'm not quite sure how you believe the Remain voting public are, therefore, responsible for a No Deal scenario if & when it happens. It is precisely the opposite of what we (remainers) voted for. I for one will be bloody delighted if it's cancelled; at this point I will be happy with anything that doesn't increase the likelihood if the economy tanking, rationing, empty supermarket shelves, rioting, deaths due to medication shortages, & mass unemployment. Already numerous companies have pulled out, causing large numbers of redundancies. Food prices are increasing.

Presumably you are not facing this possibility where you live. Lucky you.

You obviously haven't a bloody clue what you are on about.
The EU, having accepted that the UK declared it wants to leave, have been waiting for the UK to say how it wants to leave and have offered many choices yet the UK STILL after 2 1/2 years has not decided what it actually wants. Mrs may and some of the MPs know that it is going to be a disaster, in fact it already is, but they haven't got the bottle to actually say so and make the necessary negotiations.
This has precisely NOTHING to do with those who voted remain.

EL2019 · 14/02/2019 16:02

The fault lies with May for triggering Article 50 without a plan.

With parliament for voting to do so

I’m not accepting any responsibility. I want the madness stopped.

MrsTerryPratcett · 14/02/2019 16:08

After this shitshow turns into the clusterfuck we know if will be, leavers will be blaming, in order:

The EU
Ireland (although they will call it Southern Ireland)
Remainers

Teresa May

The DUP

Themselves

Cattenberg · 14/02/2019 16:11

So far, I’ve seen the Brexit fiasco blamed on:

The EU, for being “vindictive”, ie. sticking to their long-standing principle that the four freedoms are indivisible

Politicians, for not conjuring up unicorns, rainbows and pots of gold when THIS IS WHAT THE BRITISH PEOPLE VOTED FOR

Remainers, for “moaning” and “talking the country down”

EU migrants, for taking all our jobs and living off benefits. Also, for putting a strain on the NHS by working as doctors, nurses, porters and cleaners

Of course, the Brexiteers aren’t to blame. They have been betrayed by everyone else

onalongsabbatical · 14/02/2019 16:15

This is all I can bring myself to say on this ludicrous and goady theory.

Remainers will be responsible for a no deal Brexit
Remainers will be responsible for a no deal Brexit
Remainers will be responsible for a no deal Brexit
prettybird · 14/02/2019 16:16

This has to be a reverse Confused

Surely no-one, even "an ousider" Hmm, is that stupid ignorant. Shock

remainymcremainface · 14/02/2019 16:21

I'm. Tonsure why I took the trouble to respond to such an obviously goady thread, I don't usually, I'm losing my self control I think Blush

prettypossums · 14/02/2019 16:32

Do you think TM is attempting to compromise at all?

Given she campaigned to stay in the EU in the first place, I think it’s fair to say that yes, she has proven herself willing to compromise

Calloway · 14/02/2019 16:33

Truly moronic take.

remainymcremainface · 14/02/2019 16:34

You've deliberately not answered the question. What compromises has Theresa May made to get a deal? It should be very easy to answer if there is anything...

remainymcremainface · 14/02/2019 16:35

Actually fuck it. OP is obviously deliberately goady or thick as pig shit, either way can't be arsed.

DGRossetti · 14/02/2019 16:35

Do Remainers not feel that they have made a no deal more likely by focusing on the negatives of Brexit

There are no positives.

prettypossums · 14/02/2019 16:36

Of course, the Brexiteers aren’t to blame

This wasn’t in my op. I merely observed that, if we end up with a no deal scenario, those Remainers (including in parliament) who were determined to sabotage the process with a view to bringing about a 2nd referendum will be at least partly responsible.

Most of the comments above are failing to respond this point altogether. It’s interestimg.

Jog the fuck on

1tisILeClerc · 14/02/2019 16:43

Remainers, by definition would like to remain so a 'no deal' situation is absolutely nothing to do with them and all to do with those who voted leave and certain factions who see leaving as abruptly as possible as being a 'good' thing because they will make a lot of money 'betting' on the UK crashing.
As a 'second best' Remain voters would like to see a properly negotiated departure STARTING with signing the WA which is NOT the final agreement, but is just the start of proper negotiations. Actual departure will take several years.

bellinisurge · 14/02/2019 16:46

"Determined to sabotage the process ",😂. Laugh? I almost pissed myself.
