Brexit

Remainers will be responsible for a no deal Brexit

When Brexit happened, it seemed a shame and a mistake. As the deadline looms without any deal or consensus, however, it seems pretty clear to me that a no deal outcome will be at least partly the fault of those Remainers who have sought to catastrophise/sabotage any negotiations from the outset - in the vain hope of forcing a second vote. The latter was (IMO) never on the cards and Remainers have completely overplayed their hands, making their own worst nightmares come true. Where some level of conciliation/compromise might have led to a better & closer deal with Europe, instead we are left with a stalemate and looming no deal.

I’m not British, btw, these are my observations as an outsider.

Thanks Rufus.

I’ll blame the cheerleaders for no deal like mummmy.

If I say what I really think then it will be deleted.

prettybird · 14/02/2019 19:38

So, prettypossums , with views like mummy2017 - a fervent Leaver - do you still think it is a No Deal Brexit is the Remainers' fault? HmmConfused

Your attitude is as bad as victim blaming. It's analysis like yours that justifies abuse: it is somehow victim's fault that they didn't do enough to stop the abuser hitting them or they led the rapist on simply by being a woman or they allowed themselves to be bullied...you get the picture Angry

It is not Remainers fault that Hard Brexiters want a No Deal and think "Fuck Business" (as BoJo said) or didn't recognise (or worse, didn't care about) the issues that leaving would create in the island of Ireland, or thought that the EU would prioritise the UK over its Single Market. That is on those who didn't even have the sketch of a plan when they promoted Brexit (to extract part of a completely accurate comment) Angry

twofingerstoEverything · 14/02/2019 19:38

OP: You might like to stop and ask yourself why remain voters have not got behind Brexit. Could it be because there has been no attempt whatsoever to sell the benefits to us, that all the government's impact assessments show how ruinous it will be. What sort of idiot would get behind something so moronic? Why do you call this 'catastrophising'? It's nothing of the sort. I'd call it a fight against stupidity.

Calloway · 14/02/2019 19:39

Prior to the referendum multiple Leave figureheads were enthusing loudly over a Norway style relationship. But now they treat such suggestions as a gross betrayal of this (imitation of) democracy.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/02/2019 19:40

Brexit was always a trojan horse to make Britain a rich man's casino.

Bunnyfuller · 14/02/2019 19:41

And just for info - own what you fucking voted for. This was never going to go any different. No surprise to see Leavers blaming anyone but themselves for misfortunes. I mean, that’s why they voted Leave, wasn’t it’s? Rather than own the fact that we’ve bred a nation of inconsiderate, out for themselves, instant gratification across much of the nation - let’s blame the EU.

I couldn’t give a single fuck win/lose but I resent you trashing my kids’ future.

Calloway · 14/02/2019 19:41

Another reason Remainers haven't got behind this shitshow is because from the day she took over May made it crystal clear that she represented the 52%. NO attempts were made to bring the 48% onside. So it's far too fucking late now for people to be moaning that the Remainers lack of cooing and cheering led to this farcical situation.

jasjas1973 · 14/02/2019 19:42

@prettypossums

Given how determined May is to deliver any sort of Brexit inc a no-deal one, its highly likely she voted to Leave! also she made delivering a brexit that doesn't unduly harm the UK impossible by sticking to a series of unrealistic red lines.

But before all of that, she triggered A50 without any idea if the NI/GFA issues.

If we have a no-deal brexit, it is because Parliament/May didn't revoke A50, when it became clear a deal wasn't going to happen.

Remainers shouldn't be expected to back Brexit when ALL versions of it leave UK worse off.

Calloway · 14/02/2019 19:46

@DGRossetti I only heard of Koko the gorilla when she died. I'm in awe of her intelligence! There's a story that she wasn't keen on the male they brought in for her to meet with and she referred to him as Toilet Boy. I suspect she'd have been equally disparaging of Davis Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/02/2019 19:54

NO attempts were made to bring the 48% onside

Yep

frumpety · 14/02/2019 19:54

So people who voted leave want a no-deal Brexit and if they get their wish the people who didn't want Brexit at all are to blame for making the leavers happy, is that right ?

mummmy2017 · 14/02/2019 19:56

If your in a room of 150 people and you have a vote to build house
52 say build...
48 say no...
50 don't bother to. Say anything...
The houses get built....
Why do you think the 50 who never made a comment are not part of your problem...

frumpety · 14/02/2019 19:58

But you want no-deal Mummy , so you will be happy, that's what you voted for and all that entails.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/02/2019 19:59

frumpety

Yes

From what i can make out

Vote remain...its your fault if anything goes wrong with leaving
Dont vote....its your fault if anything goes wrong with leaving

Vote leave....how the hell is it their fault, what is wrong with you people!!

ContinuityError · 14/02/2019 20:03

mummmy people who didn’t vote and people who voted Remain are not responsible for no deal.

People like you are.

mummmy2017 · 14/02/2019 20:05

Nope I own my vote.
Pleased beyond you can imagine
Chuffed so many people couldn't be arsed to get out and vote...
I would like thank the millions who were just too lazy....

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 14/02/2019 20:05

Sounds about right.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 14/02/2019 20:05

Sorry, that was to Rufus.

frumpety · 14/02/2019 20:06

I don't understand how a foreigner dare come on here and question the validity of the will of the people, they voted for a no-deal Brexit, its what they all wanted, there is no issue with a no-deal Brexit because it is what the will of 17 million people wanted. Coming on here and talking about compromise, who do you think you are Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 14/02/2019 20:06

Thanks chardonnay Grin

Mookatron · 14/02/2019 20:10

mummmy2017 it's more like 52‰ say knock this end terrace house down and see if we can make a detached house out of the rubble, and 48% say can we stay in our terraced house please, because I quite like living in it and though the noisy neighbours are sometimes a bit annoying it's cheaper to heat. And we don't know any builders and the rest of the terrace own all the cement mixers.

Mookatron · 14/02/2019 20:13

And next doors won't let us take the party wall, selfish bastards

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 14/02/2019 20:14

Yes, they vote to build the houses not having seen the plans, the moneyestimates or without a planning permission.
