"Soubry Is A Nazi...."

I'm sure she's far from perfect like the rest of us, but I can't see the connection:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-46785941/brexit-anna-soubry-mp-shouted-down-by-protesters-on-tv

The earlier chant, though, was spot on:

"Soubry is a lawyer....."

(If I heard rightly?)

Is it this one black

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3363482-To-target-a-politician-s-children-is-UNREASONABLE

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/01/2019 08:43

Which to be fair is mainly about the children not JRM himself

LadyGregorysToothbrush · 08/01/2019 08:45

There was a thread about the JRM incident and the vast majority of MN Remainers agreed that it was unacceptable to target his children in that way.

Footage from Westminster yesterday was deeply unsettling. Something has gone very very wrong with British politics and public discourse, and Brexit is the vehicle for something very ugly rising to the surface.

BertrandRussell · 08/01/2019 08:47

“Oh yes, I forgot about the terrible abuse of JRM & his CHILDREN by remainers - where were your calls for arrests then?”

There was a long thread about it. Yes, you must have missed it.

1tisILeClerc · 08/01/2019 08:48

{Hassling politicians can be part and parcel of democratic life,} only when 'at work' (at constituency office or Westminster for example) and must never involve family members. And the things Mistigri said.
I think there was an AIBU about JRM's hassling at the time.
Respectful hassling on JRM himself is fine but involving his children definitely not, they are not politicians, not their 'job'.

BertrandRussell · 08/01/2019 08:54

“Respectful hassling on JRM himself is fine but involving his children definitely not, they are not politicians, not their 'job'.”
Agreed. And Mumsnet said so clearly at the time. Shall we stop trying to derail the thread?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/01/2019 08:54

I POSTED A LINK WITH THE AIBU THREAD ON IT

Just in case its been missed...very easy to miss stuff on here

BertrandRussell · 08/01/2019 08:56

“t’s not one rule for remainers & one rule for leavers, although it clearly is to some people.”
No it isn’t. Which is why many decent Leave campaigners have come out strongly in support of Soubary. Only the mean spirited could fail to do so.

Enterthewolves · 08/01/2019 08:56

Surferjet what about this thread? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3364819-Is-this-what-the-left-have-been-reduced-to-shouting-at-people-kids

You always do whataboutery, but actually all I see is remainers on here expressing disappointment when people behave badly and you desperately attempting to claim that remainers are as bad as leavers when it comes to lying, harassment and abuse.

WallisFrizz · 08/01/2019 08:56

I for one find it laughable that the politicians are criticising lack of police action.

Don’t they realise that there are people all over the country getting away with things they would have previously faced arrest for. All down to numbers, to arrest someone for a public order offence, it’s two officers of the streets...who’s going to replace them in that time? In days gone by, there would have been a bit of rejigging of resources and sorted. These days, with officer numbers at a critical level (thanks to this government), there would be no officers to replace them on the streets leaving a high profile area unprotected. This isn’t just outside Parliament, this is a problem across towns and cities across the country. Policing is on its knees due to government cuts, people everywhere are getting away with minor offences due to how resource intensive it is to deal with. Whilst I wish Soubrey no ill, it is about time politicians realised how vulnerable they have left all of us.

BlackCatSleeping · 08/01/2019 08:57

Yes, that was the main one, Rufus. I think there were others too. People were shocked because no matter what his political views are, it was very wrong to involve his kids like that and start harassing them. His nanny too. They aren't public figures.

In the same way, I'd say the protestors against Soubry crossed a line because their behaviour was really quite threatening and intimidating.

People do have a right to political protest, but they don't have a right to intimidate people.

ShiningSally · 08/01/2019 09:02

Well said Enterthewolves

ShatnersBassoon · 08/01/2019 09:04

What is it about Anna Soubry that has made these people call her a Nazi? I'm no great fan of hers, but I can't recall anything heinous about her.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/01/2019 09:06

I agree with both your comments black

they shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near her...very intimidating

BlackCatSleeping · 08/01/2019 09:08

Thanks, Rufus.

She wants a revote on Brexit.

BlackCatSleeping · 08/01/2019 09:09

Why wanting a revote on Brexit makes her a nazi is still unclear though. I suspect these particular protestors aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. 🤦‍♀️

JSmitty · 08/01/2019 09:09

They appear to be EDL types: 'Well-fed' middle-aged white men with over-cultivated gorblimey accents. AS seems to have said something horrid about the EDL and so they are calling her a Nazi.

Also love the idea that all Afro-Carribbeans are now to be called 'Lammy' and any objection to this is a whinge about 'cultural appropriation.'

So not about brexit at all then jsmitty?

twofingerstoEverything · 08/01/2019 09:12

surfer this thread about JRM and his children took all of 30 seconds to find.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/01/2019 09:14

I think maybe surferjet missed that thread about JRM as well

As ive just scanned to see if i was on it and i cant see her either

I may well have missed us both as its a large thread

ShatnersBassoon · 08/01/2019 09:15

So they've misunderstood what Nazi means Hmm. Aggressive and stupid is a horrible combination.

BertrandRussell · 08/01/2019 09:18

Apart from anything else, Soubary is an outspoken, confident woman. Nothing these Neanderthals hate more than an outspoken confident woman. Apart from Margaret Thatcher, of course. She was different....

twofingerstoEverything · 08/01/2019 09:19

Soubry is a frequent target...

JSmitty · 08/01/2019 09:21

It's sort-of about Brexit in that "We all voted for Brexit" and anyone who says otherwise is a traitor who is defying the will of the people. The govt also plays this game with the insistence that the people have spoken and so must on no account be permitted to speak again.

A really nasty Pandora's Box of mob rule opened by that entitled Lord Snooty Cameron. May his artisan Shepherd's Hut lose its handbrake and take him over a cliff.

ratchethandler · 08/01/2019 09:24

I don't take surfer post to whataboutery. Mistigr . I believe his/her point was: This is nothing more than what remainers and the left have done to Nigel Farage and JRM, in front of their children in both cases.

I don't think that makes what was done to Soubery or Jones right, not in the least. But it certainly acts as a warning to those like Jones especially, who approve of, or at least remain silent when these unacceptable tactics are used on those they dislike, that they have nasty habit of coming back your way.
