AIBU?

To target a politician’s children is UNREASONABLE!

Just that. Not a fan of Rees-Mogg but no child should EVER be targeted so horribly anywhere, let alone on their doorstep. I am just so shocked that anyone thinks this is ok.

Well there has been a sustained attack on the children of the poor and disabled, so I suppose it's thought of "why should they live in peace".

Who targeted which of his children?

And why? And how?

MissusGeneHunt · 12/09/2018 13:21

Agreed - but having watched the video just now, if I were R-M I would have said something, not just stood there like a lemon.

I only saw the elderly man throw the ridiculous comments over to the family and nanny, so there may have been more as well, I've not seen them. I'm surprised the police officers present didn't stop the man though. Poor kids, not nice at all.

And there is the first oh yes they do.

@Phosphorus - I literally just Googled 'Rees Mogg children' and the first to come up was the M*rror's video.

Agreed.

A politician’s children went to my DD’s primary. They participated in the activities I delivered. We had a lockdown routine, an immediate threat routine and a way to squirrel them away from whichever venue we were it in an emergency.

All that because of the reaction to the politics of their parent.

Agreed, it's not the children's fault that their father is an odious man doing significant damage.

I had a look on the BBC, but I didn't really want to go looking at the Mirror/Sun/Mail.

Agreed, it was an awful thing to do. Also disgusting were the demands to the Rees Moggs' nanny that she reveal her salary to a total stranger.

Agree 100% it is not acceptable.

“The fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge”.

It wasn’t right 2,000 years ago and it isn’t right now. Tell JRM he’s a dangerous prat; don’t pick on his kids.

Meh.

We recently discovered a relative who has mental health problems has had zero income since Febuary. His illness is so severe he hid the problem because he didnt know how to deal with it.

And yet his pip had been snatched away after an assesor noted he could make a.cup of tea.

Luckily, he had a small amount of savings. Which have now gone. The only reason he isnt homeless is before becoming ill he was one of those highly regarded hard working members of society. So his house is paid off.

He has nothing, no mental health nurse due to the cuts, no social worker due to the cuts. And now no money to pay for much needed house repairs. Due to the cuts.

I'd be lying if I said I gave a second thought to the family of some poor, bewildered Tory. At least they'll be able to pay for private therapy to get over the ordeal instead of years on the waiting list for CAHMS. Hmm

I just watched the video.

R-M benefits from this kind of publicity. He uses his family as part of his public image.

On this occasion an inarticulate, uncharismatic member of the public makes a series of unfounded allegations about the R-Ms nanny’s terms and conditions. (You can bet your last penny that R-M will be scrupulous in his adherence to employment law). Failing to get a rise from R-M he turns to the children and shouts that “everyone hates your daddy”. Well everyone , no matter what their voting intentions, finds that off - so RM scores.

A responsible parent would have sent the children back inside and not exploited them in this way. But that is another story.

No child should ever be targeted negatively. Spread love, not hate.

I loathe Rees Mogg and his ilk but completely agree. Children are off-limits (or should be). We don't pick our parents after all...

How petty and horrible of you if you really believe that statement. What have JRM's children done exactly?

Report
BabySharkAteMyHamster · 12/09/2018 13:41

I've just watched a few seconds of the video.

The fault lies with the JRM and his wife.

Why have the children there at all when they knew there were protestors and these things can turn nasty ?

Why did no one take charge and usher the children back inside instead of gobbing off back at them ??

The kids probably shouldnt have been targetted but the parents should never have put them in the position of being targets. So meh. Confused

@BabySharkAteMyHamster I'm truly sorry about your situation, however what has this got to do with an MP's children?

Its not their fault.

Ordinarily I'm up for any Rees Mogg/ old boys club Tory bashing.

But I totally agree. Rees Mogg is an odious, pompous individual who gives not a fuck about anything but furthering his own interests. But children are not fair game. And neither is their nanny.

Agree that if it were me I'd have told the man to fuck off and leave my children out of any disagreement he has with me. Cowardly individuals (both of them, actually).

Dreadful to target children. I can't even begin to imagine what good those people think it would do.

Children are not responsible for how their parents behave.

Him, I couldn’t give a shiny shite if he was harangued and bollocked every waking second of his day. He’s disgusting.

His children, however priveleged and financially lucky, should never, ever be a target.

Nobody is condoning the evil of austerity and the very real damage, depression, hardship, even, tragically, deaths because of the brutality of the Tory regime. But imo anyone who attacks a child, be it physically or verbally loses any moral high ground they ever had.

They’re children ffs. They never asked to have that horror as a father.

JRM is an odious man, and I dislike his politics intensely but it's pretty clear who that Class War are the real bastards here.
They're trying to bully the nanny and the children. But they failed miserably.
Don't blame the children for the decisions their father makes.

Just so appalled to see that awful spectacle.

My heart went out to those little children, and especially one of the boys was very distressed.

JRM did the right thing by not responding or engaging.

The politics is irrelevant. New laws clearly need to be passed to protect children from hate, whether it is based on class, race or any other reason.

Children are NEVER fair game.
