"Soubry Is A Nazi...."

I'm sure she's far from perfect like the rest of us, but I can't see the connection:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-46785941/brexit-anna-soubry-mp-shouted-down-by-protesters-on-tv

The earlier chant, though, was spot on:

"Soubry is a lawyer....."

(If I heard rightly?)

It's just the kind of anger that has been increasing in recent years. It is all down to the actions of our past and present governments. Doesn't make it right of course but I'm going to guess this kind of thing will become even more frequent.

Mistigri · 08/01/2019 12:13

mistri how would you have liked me to “support” them ?

@Hoppinggreen Was that was intended for me? I think you've got the wrong person ... hard to tell as so many posts have gone.

Mistigri · 08/01/2019 12:16

It is all down to the actions of our past and present governments.

No it isn't. These people (the ones in the video) have no genuine political demands, they are just agitators who want a fight and in some cases have a plan to monetise it.

They don't represent leavers - in fact I doubt they really care about Brexit.

TheElementsSong · 08/01/2019 12:27

Gosh, I wonder whether new poster Henrietta who has popped up on several Brexit threads today is a Leaver or Remainer? It’s so unclear.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/01/2019 12:34

Im going with remainer elements

Totally agree with Caroline Lucas on twitter today:

Shocking to hear #Brexit Secretary on
@BBCr4today
suggest that kind of abuse and intimidation suffered by
@anna_soubry
outside parliament is reason to avoid a #PeoplesVote

Ministers should be joining us in standing up to bullying & intimidation - not being complicit with it

mistri yes I did get the wrong person but corrected it and apologised in my next post immediately afterwards.

LouiseCollins28 · 08/01/2019 13:22

Well, this has become a bit pointless hasn't it? Total echo chamber now Henrietta's posts have all been removed.

QuentinWinters · 08/01/2019 13:26

louise They were mainly insulting and randy, not much content so their loss doesn't really affect the tone of the thread.

Do you think Soubry should be called a Nazi while doing her job? Do you agree there was an element of sexism involved?

twofingerstoEverything · 08/01/2019 13:29

Does Kate Hoey get harrassed in this way? Going by some of the 'logic' displayed on this thread, Remainers should be harassing her every time she steps into the street, but there have been no reports of this, which makes me wonder if the Leave camp attracts a more thuggish type...
(Disclaimer: this does not say all Leavers are thugs, before someone trots out the usual tropes.)

LouiseCollins28 · 08/01/2019 13:34

@QuentinWinters
No I don't think she should be called a Nazi, I'd agree it is vanishingly unlikely that she's a member of any National Socialist party or organisation.

I do think she should be doing her job though. Since she stood in 2017 on a Conservative manifesto committed to delivering Brexit then that's what she ought to be focused on.

Unless, of course, she truly doesn't believe in doing that. She's perfectly entitled to take that view btw. However, if she does, she should ought really to resign the whip, and and shouldn't have stood on the platform she stood on in 2017.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 08/01/2019 13:35

Not sure. This is the first time AS has been too though. Both have been badly heckled in the past.

I don't think there is a prize for being the first.

This discourse that remainers are good and leavers are bad imo does need to stop. It just fuels more divisions.

BorisBogtrotter · 08/01/2019 13:39

If that's the case then Louise every single leave voting MP or eurosceptic should have not campaigned in 2010, or 2015 for the Tories, as the manifesto clearly states backing for the single market.

Same as they shouldn't have stood in 92 and 88 under Thatcher and Major.

But hey, you don't apply the same rules to your own side.

Typical leaver.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/01/2019 13:41

Does Frank Field get heckled?

BorisBogtrotter · 08/01/2019 13:42

Remain MPs have regularly had death threats on twitter and other places.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/01/2019 13:43

It is absolutely an MPs job to challenge the party line if that is what they believe. Telling them to "shut the fuck up" is the opposite of democracy.

DarlingNikita · 08/01/2019 13:43

This is the first time AS has been too though.

Soubry was hassled like this just before or just after Xmas, wasn't she? Also when she was trying togo into Parliament. This time I think there were more people there and it was more formally organised, though.

There's a More United open letter to John Bercow you can sign, here: www.moreunited.uk/notourbritain

SillySallySingsSongs · 08/01/2019 13:45

Typical leaver.

Louise on this thread hasn't said how she voted.

You habe already had one comment deleted for calling all leavers scum.

Should I call you a typical remainer? No because I am a remainer and don't go around calling people names that don't agree with me. It's childish behaviour.

twofingerstoEverything · 08/01/2019 13:49

This is the first time AS has been too though. Both have been badly heckled in the past.
No. This is not the first time Soubry has been heckled like this. Watch the footage of her being verbally abused in the street last December too.

LouiseCollins28 · 08/01/2019 13:49

@BorisBogtrotter. Nonsense, when was the referendum again? In 2015 the Conservative government was elected having committed to hold a referendum, so no result was known, obviously.

Campaigning to reverse the outcome immediately after the result is known, having stood on a platform of implementing it, is different IMO. Different even from Eurosceptics doing so in 1987 referendum + 12 years - and back then there was little Eurosceptic campaigning from what I know of it.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/01/2019 13:53

I've no problem with Leavers, although I am fed up about Brexit. However it is worrying when Leavers become vocal apologists for these thuggish actions, that they wouldn't tolerate in say a football ground, just because it supports their views. What else will they excuse?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 08/01/2019 13:58

Kind of skimmed this in the press last few days and actually said on a previous thread how although calling someone a nazi is wrong (assuming they're not obvs) not sure how name calling can be stopped. After comment from another poster I properly watched interviews. Totally take it back.

I've only just watched that video (thanks Dippy). I cannot believe those idiots were allowed that close to her, anything could have happened.

It's completely different a load of burly, aggressive and fairly large men surrounding a women than it would be had that been a male MP btw. Its but about what they were saying but how. Intimidation pure and simple.

SillySallySingsSongs · 08/01/2019 13:58

However it is worrying when Leavers become vocal apologists for these thuggish actions

I agree. Just as when remainers try to justify or excuse attacks on Farage or JRM even though I completely disagree with them. Neither is ok.

The narrative has to change as does language used by media, the general publuc and even MPs themselves.

BorisBogtrotter · 08/01/2019 14:19

The JRM thing was not a leave/remain issue, he was being shouted at by far left ( and also much more likely to be leave) supporters.
