There's a deal.

The press are over excited.

May has united the country.

Everyone hates it.
(Apart from David Allen Green)

Parliament might yet reject it.

Nothing is yet decided and everything is still to be sorted.

Thanks for the new thread, rtb.

Very interesting Peston summary, bigchoc. Seems to indicate quite an achievement by the govt in that area, given other EU countries want to take that business?

Now to wait until 5 pm ....

For anyone with legal knowledge (or more understanding than me!) if this deal is done does that mean we know the situation for the next year but after that it the future situation could be anything - i.e. all yet to be agreed?

That sounds fecking heavenly right about now. We can say hey remember that crazy time in 2018 when we thought the tories were literally going to kill people through a lack of resources N.Korea style? and it wont have happened and that part at least will stay a horrible nightmare that doesn't come true.

It's grand really...

Unless your a business trying to make mid to long term plans

A bonus for the Leaver Y2K brigade though. But we are out, not out, what exactly is our status?

Looks like Brexit has already started keeping foreigners out !

The UK's decision to deny visas for two pioneering female anti-poaching rangers to attend an awards ceremony has been criticised by organisers.

Zimbabwean Nyaradzo Hoto risks her life every day to protect elephants from ivory poachers in an all-female anti-poaching unit.

She and a colleague were due to accept an award for the team on 3 November.

But Ms Hoto's trip, her first outside Zimbabwe, was called off after visitor visa applications were rejected.

(contd)

Seems the right decision to me. We don't want troublemakers like that here. Not when we've got arms to sell to Saudi.

People arriving illegally over the NI border would not be able to work or rent a home (legally at least). That’s if we could differentiate between them and those who were here already (possibly by passport data?)

If there is an end to FOM, I’m expecting

  • the settled status to go ahead as per agreement in december17
  • in two years time, for EU citizens then fit in whatever immigration system they will have decided. And settled EU citizens to be on the database somthere is no issue for them to be in and out of the country, find a job/place to rent etc...

Of course. The fact that no paper document is given will still cause no end of issue that might give a repeat of Windrush again.

I don’t like to worry anyone, but one government source says there are still up to 20 people yet to speak in cabinet. Could go on for another 2.5hours. Cannot confirm obviously but thought worth passing on...
No10 confirm it is overrunning. Not due to finish until 6pm, or poss 7pm. It’s fine though, the one way to win over journalists is to push everything right up to their print/bulletin deadlines
I’m beginning to wonder if they’ll still be talking when I start work on Red Box at 5am

Jesse Norman wasn't it, and wasn't he part of ASDA once, or some other supermarket? He might know about supermarket deliveries if nothing else. That is of course, dangerous, because we are tired of experts, we want the people who govern us to be as ignorant as possible.

Paul Waugh @paulwaugh
Has the No.10 press conference just been cancelled after Labour, SNP and other complaints? Nick Hurd just told MPs "I am authorised to inform the House there will be no press statement this evening..."

Background: There were complaints that the HoC was only sitting until 7pm and the Cabinet meeting overrunning meant that May was likely to end up give a statement to the press BEFORE parliament which would be inappropriate.

However it doesn't sound like May is getting an easy ride by the Cabinet to get her deal approved by them does it?

Ah...this is probably why EU ambassadors have decided to end their meeting. They were waiting for May’s statement.

So nothing further seems to be happening tonight apart from lots of journalists speculating.

Unless of course we get a dramatic resignation.
