There's a deal.

The press are over excited.

May has united the country.

Everyone hates it.
(Apart from David Allen Green)

Parliament might yet reject it.

Nothing is yet decided and everything is still to be sorted.

I thought Labour MPs (or vast majority of them) were going to oppose ? I can't see any news about them abstaining.

Remember Corbyn has repeated told us that Labour respects the referendum.

Also, if Labour abstain, and this deal does go through, the resulting ERG vs. normal people Tory party civil war is likely to gift him an election.

Fuck abstaining. Labour might even vote for this deal ...

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 15:21

Thanks, red 💐

MissMalice We're saying - if this deal goes through - we're staying in the SM,
because after Brexit we expect transition to be extended and extended ...
until a very different govt and public finally choose to join EEA / EFTA, Norway ++ with SM and a CU

It may well be the "Associate Membership of the EU" that has been suggested as suitable for those who don't want to join the Euro, or don't want further integration

DGRossetti · 14/11/2018 15:25

It may well be the "Associate Membership of the EU" that has been suggested as suitable for those who don't want to join the Euro, or don't want further integration

it also removes UK MEPs from the European Parliament, which is a big win for the EU. Sadly it means we have to take Farage back.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 15:28

pretzels atm there is no clear public consent for Remain
and a forced Remain would make the UK a permanent wrecking ball inside the EU - so they'd probably oppose revocation in such circumstances

The govt might do an emergency revoke in February / March if the deal were voted down - and beg the EU to accept -
or they might decide that allowing the automatic No Deal is more likely to avoid a Tory Civil War

A 2nd Ref with No Deal vs Remain might well end up with No Deal being absolutely unavoidable - because the People voted for it

1tisILeClerc · 14/11/2018 15:29

{Sadly it means we have to take Farage back.}
You could always put him in prison.
It would act as an 'anti crime' deterrent. 'If found guilty you could end up in a cell with Farage'.

1tisILeClerc · 14/11/2018 15:32

So, as a summary for this point on a Wednesday afternoon, despite all the amateur dramatics we still don't know what the plan is?
Yes or no will do as a reply to this question!

MissMalice · 14/11/2018 15:33

No not yet LeClerc

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 15:33

DG UKIP did bugger all for their Uk constituents, but they genuinely helped other far right parties
The EU and EP will be much better off without Uk MEPs

Another reason why - barring emergencies or a massive change in Uk public attitudes - they would really not accept Remain now

so they are obviously in the U-turn swing

Just to add to the previous (scary) poker game comments

"... as one senior source predicts, in the withdrawal agreement there will be "plenty of scope for mischief and confusion".

What despicable shysters they all are

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 15:36

That's nice & conciliatory - not "we've won, get over it"
It is Varadkhar, not May, who is imo communicating effectively to worried Unionists - who aren't just the DUP:

"I know for the unionist community in Northern Ireland this is quite a difficult time.
Many of them may be feeling vulnerable, many of them might be feeling isolated and many of them may be quite worried about what may be agreed in the coming days.

I want to say to them the GFA [Good Friday agreement] will be protected and that includes a recognition that we respect the territory of the United Kingdom and that we respect the principle of consent, that there can be no change to the constitutional status of Northern Ireland unless a majority of Northern Ireland say so
and we are very happy to have that written into any agreement."

He also stated that there is an
Emergency EU summit to finalise Brexit, planned for Sunday 25 November

TheElementsSong · 14/11/2018 15:37

Wow, a new thread already! Thanks RTB!

And thanks LeClerc for asking my question for me Grin namely does anybody know WTF is happening?

MyBrexitIsIll · 14/11/2018 15:41

Thank you Red

A good day for those of us who do not mind if UK is not technically part of the EU but would like it to remain indefinitely in the customs union and single market.

Tbf, this is what was called a soft Brexit. Lots of people were in favour of it during the campaign and certainly lots of people have voted for that. You know the Norvegian option.
So why is it that nowdays it’s an unacceptable option? Or maybe the question should be why in earth was it an acceptable option then???

The problem, for me, is that, bar staying in the EU altogether, that’s the only other option that protect the GFA.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 15:41

Oho, what a surprise ...
Robert Peston reports the City has ghot most of what it wanted, especially the investment banks

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 15:44

MyBrexit I think it is because of all the time and money wasted, all the business lost
to produce this horrendously complex contortions
that on the face of it look unfair to Scotland and worry some Unionists

However - hopefully - in practice it will be SM+CU BINO for ever, until formalised eventually as Norway++ or AM

GingerPCatt · 14/11/2018 15:44

Govt have now U-turned on FOBT

Sorry what’s FOBT?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 14/11/2018 15:48

Throwback to the days of Telex. (Under 30s, ask your grandparents).

First project I worked on in my sandwich year was a Telex handling system for petroleum purchasing from the big Oil companies. Millions of pounds a day purchasing (and why I had to sign a waiver about share dealing ...)

Hazardswan · 14/11/2018 15:54

Just over an hour to go before TM's statment I'll get off my arse and do something then stare at the screen for news!
