Boris outmaneovered. Et tu Gove & Corbyn? The Westministenders Hunger Games Continues

RedToothBrush · 01/07/2016 12:08

Following the Machiavellian Govian shambles? Utterly gobsmacked at the Labour clusterfuck?

Who will strike next?

Who will the shadowy hand of Osborne back?
Can Gove be launched back into space and back to the planet he came from?
Can May save the country from almost certain doom?
Will Leadsom patronise us all to death (whilst silently stabbing people in the back with a sweet smile)?
Can Johnson make a decision he can stick to, and can we persuade him to give up being a politician?
Will Steven Crabb get rid of that god awful beard?

Will Corbyn shoot himself in the other foot?
Will Angela Eagle get a spine and just stand?
Who the fuck is Owen Smith?
Will the Blairites be foiled and damned?
Are momentum a bunch of thugs or a force for a better, for the people?

Will Farage disappear back under his rock?
Will people wake up to Arron Banks?
What will Dominic Cummings destroy next?

Have we seen a coup d'état?
How do we improve democracy and representation?

All these questions and more.
Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

France, entirely predictably, already making noises about ending Le Touquet agreement.

Alain Juppé calls for border to go back where it belongs.

Children of Men is coming true!

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 21:21

About that French border in Calais...

which I think I said wayyyyyyy back in the beginning and it becoming an issue.

Well....

How anyone ever believed that sweet deal for the UK would be maintained if we Brexited is beyond me.

MrsLupo · 04/07/2016 21:25

C4 news were saying that the poll that showed high support for Leadsom is likely to be skewed as the sample polled is self-selecting and likely to be more extreme than the party as a whole. They doubt her showing will be that high in reality.

I said right at the beginning of this leadership contest that I hate them all so much it's hard to say who I'd prefer, and that's still exactly how I feel. At a pinch I'd have to go for May because I think her approach to the EU would be less scorched earth than Leadsom or any of the others, but dear god. On almost any other issue (and it's hard to remember that there are any other issues atm) the thought of her as PM makes my teeth want to curl.

DoinItFine · 04/07/2016 21:28

I feel the same MrsLupo.

My least non-favourite is Crabb.

But I'm not going to bother re-fooling myself that May is anything but an immoral.woman unfit to lead the country.

InShockReally · 04/07/2016 21:31

Oh the leave campaign will be thrilled at that.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 21:34

lordashcroftpolls.com/2016/06/how-the-united-kingdom-voted-and-why/#more-14746

This is a very thorough breakdown about how people voted.

Its both fascinating and frightening at the same time.

i like the sound of crabby best, but not sure of his credentials and don't think he has a chance.

May over Leadsome. May is slightly more reasonable.

To be honest, I think no matter what happens now, just under or just over half the country are going to be pissed off.

Surely. Labour should be getting their act together?

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 21:39

www.thesun.co.uk/news/1389238/michael-gove-is-impressive-and-articulate-as-he-bids-to-convince-tory-mps-to-vote-for-him-in-leadership-contest/

She said she wanted to discuss the “three Bs”: “Bankers, Brussels and babies.”

I thought the three Bs were "Bollocks, Brexit and Boris"

Silly me.

Every time I see those voting stats broken down I wonder about the 4% of UKIP voters who voted Remain. Did they just misread the ballot paper?? Confused

Helmetbymidnight · 04/07/2016 21:42

Tbf, I did have to read the paper several times to work out what side I was on!

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 21:46

I came out the booth going 'I did put the x in the remain box didn't I?'

(I did. I just was having a brainfart moment of self doubt)

OP posts:
Alisvolatpropiis · 04/07/2016 21:47

I did that Red, texted a couple of friends demanding they describe the ballot paper to me Blush.

InShockReally · 04/07/2016 21:47

I think this is the bit of that report that makes me Confused the most...

"First they came for one group" sort of thing.

Maybe they are europhile racists?

Or have a weakness for young fogeys but are in favour of immigration?

Or want to take back control of Britain and understand that is best done inside a powerful trading bloc?

#the4%

DoinItFine · 04/07/2016 21:50

I stared at that paper for so long.

Kept rereading it, like an exam question.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 21:53

In shock that was the one that disturbed me too.

However, I have managed to find THE most disturbing thing of the night.
Even more disturbing than the thought of Andrea Loathsom becoming PM.

Its a video of Michael Gove, removing his boxer shorts from under his kilt.

order-order.com/2016/07/04/watch-michael-gove-removes-boxer-shorts-asks-nubile-young-girl-check/

Yes really. YES REALLY.

GraceGrape · 04/07/2016 22:01

First time I've seen that particular part of the poll. I am absolutely shocked that 78% of leave voters think feminism is a force for evil!

MrsLupo · 04/07/2016 22:03

And what's with all the hate for the green movement? Have they all got shares in Cuadrilla?

Hamishandthefoxes · 04/07/2016 22:09

I think it's fear of the world changing which explains the hatred of feminism and multiculturalism - my recently deceased grandma was appalled that I choose to work. My grandad would have turned in his grave when my sister married a 'coloured'.

When they were young they were surrounded by white families where the woman didn't work and kept the house really nice for her husband to get back from his skilled factory job.

That world has mostly gone and I think there is a voice crying in the wilderness about how that isn't fair (combined with not being young anymore)...there's hatred for everything that has contributed to this change.

Hamishandthefoxes · 04/07/2016 22:13

I think the figure I found most shocking in the Lord Ashcroft poll was the division between people with jobs and people without. People on pensions or unemployed were significantly more likely to vote leave than people with jobs. Poor bastards.

caitlinohara · 04/07/2016 22:19

Red I can't watch that. I read the title of the link and thought... nah.. don't need that in my head thanks very much. Confused Michael Gove and boxer shorts is like the opposite of clickbait.

RedToothBrush · 04/07/2016 22:22

Conservative party leader preference, May v Leadsom:
T. May: 63%
A. Leadsom: 31%
(via YouGov, Con members / 01 - 04 Jul)

I feel slightly better...
Though these things are all relative in the Post-Fact Era.
