ttc I actually thought the reverse was true when trying to acquire magic potion - perhaps cos it had to be UK compliant, CMV negative and latino/Med to match my heritage. Much easier this time doing in Spain where they chose!

🐢 please put some white knickers on!!!

Just ate a lot of cayenne... wow the things I will do!!!

Congrats stansam!

Kwick that sounds super exciting and promising! When is your test date?

So I finally got to talk to the donor coordinator after a farcical exchange with one of her colleagues who definitely being awkward on purpose. I really hope she is not involved in my treatment!

The clinic are insisting I use a cmv negative donor from their own bank (can't obtain from another bank, even if UK based) for which there is a waiting list of approximately 4 months, however I am already 2 months into this as it has taken so long to get to talk to the coordinator. I am likely to reach the top of the list by early January, at which point we should be able to have a consent appointment then start treatment almost immediately. Apparently we have to go to a counselling appointment before then which I have been variously told is 1 or 2 hours long. I have provisionally booked this for 15th December by which time my girlfriend will have returned from her overseas deployment (yay!).

Honestly this clinic has been annoying me lately but it's much closer and cheaper than anything else and has decent success rates so I guess I'll stick with it. Might research a couple of backup clinics though!

Ttc2017 · 21/11/2017 20:22

Sorry if stupid question what is cmv? Good luck and hope you get to start straight away in Jan! I'm due to start iui in Jan to I can't wait!

Bear1980 · 21/11/2017 20:31

ttc cmv is apparently a fairly common virus but if you are cmv -ive and you catch the virus while pregnant then there is a small risk of birth defects I think.* It is suggested that if you are cmv -ive then you should use a cmv -ive donor to reduce the risk of you catching it. From what I can remember from selecting my donor more recent research has shown that the xhance of the virus still being active in a cmv +ive donor is small and the risk of birth defects is also small.*

Worth doing your own research to make up your mind whether to go for cmv +ive or -ive. In the end I didn’t bother getting tested and went for a +ive donor but its a pesonal choice thing.**

Please anyone correct me if I have got this wrong

TinyPaws · 21/11/2017 20:33

CMV = cytomegalovirus. The majority of adults in the UK have already been exposed to cmv, but some haven't. If a mother is exposed for the first time in pregnancy, there is a risk that this will cause birth defects.

Ttc I'm hoping to start in January too! I having medicated IUI because I have irregular cycles due to PCOS. So cool to know you'll be having IUI at about the same time! (Also cool to see all the people on this thread at different stages of their journeys!)

tiny I think it is terrible how you have been given the run around but am loving your PMA.

niomi thanks but I am no expert. I hijacked this thread a few years ago and it is a collective effort!

Haha I didn't go that far kwick but luckily all going to plan and have been allowed to start the meds. Taking the first injection shortly - eek!

Tiny that all sounds so frustrating. I'm cmv- but clinic were happy for me to use a cmv+ donor as long as I signed a form saying I was aware of the risks. There weren't many cmv- donors and I decided the risks were small. Hope things go smoothly from here onwards.

Wish many congrats, must be so lovely to see!

Hi Bear, cycle buddy! It took me while to psych myself up to actually stick the needle in but wasn't at all bad. Second one this eve much easier. Still feels like a weird thing to do though...

Mandy002 · 23/11/2017 19:54

Congrats wish that’s fantastic news- glad things are going so well.

Hope you’re TWW is going well kwick- thinking sticky thoughts for you.

Anyone have any advice for me...my consultant wants me to think about if I want to put one or two blasts back during FET. I’m totally torn...I know the success rates improve with 2 but being single I’d be lying if I said that the thought of twins wasn’t a bit daunting mainly because of logistics. Also does anyone know if FET under sedation damages your chances? Thanks

TJLL · 24/11/2017 07:43

Hello ladies.
I found this thread a couple of weeks ago, so I've been reading from the beginning (almost 10,000 posts!). Your journeys have been emotional to say the least and I admire your willpower to keep strong.

I debated whether to post here, but as someone said, all our circumstances are different, but our end goal is the same. So this is me:

33 years old in my first same-sex relationship (getting married in 3 months!). I have 2 DDs from previous relationships (absent fathers so I did it alone both times). I have looked into IUI and egg sharing, probably at CRGW. I live in the sticks, so any clinic is going to be at least 2.5 hrs away!!

Congratulations to all the BFPS and little bundles over the last couple of years! 🎉

Latenightreader · 24/11/2017 07:55

Congratulations stansam and I am so happy for wish! Seeing dreams coming true gives me hope.

pickle162 · 24/11/2017 08:21

Welcome @TJLL - that is a lot of reading! Good luck :)

kwick · 24/11/2017 08:40

mandy my cousin has twins and even with the help of her husband and mum and dad she finds it tough. I will only go one at a time. 😬

TJLL so impressed with you catching up!!! That is over 10k posts!!!
I think I started out a tad cocky... am now more jaded...
Welcome!!!!

Hmmm have a sleepover this weekend so may not even be able to test early!!

OP posts:
LondonGirl80 · 24/11/2017 10:45

Mandy, we were asked re 1 or 2 embryos. We have friends who said two and are pregnant with twins and having a torrid time. So we agreed one each time.

Welcome TJLL! Lots of lesbians on the thread trying for their dream family, including me & my missus.

So, been to my GP this morning and now referred to an NHS clinic as we meet the local CCG guidelines for female couples now. Will take 6 weeks or so to get first appointment, so we decided to go ahead and will make sure appt is we know the result of private FET (& if FET works, we cancel NHS appt - crossed fingers!)

Ttc2017 · 24/11/2017 13:09

Hi catching up with all the messages great to hear some of your news with bfp!! Big congrats!! Looking for cycle buddy any one starting iui in new year?

Ttc2017 · 24/11/2017 14:51
