StorkAhoy · 17/05/2017 11:21

sounds like they are saying that 47% of the 107mil sperm were mobile. is that right?just call them and ask them to explain. but curious to know what motility answer you were expecting?

StorkAhoy · 17/05/2017 11:30

Caution I didn't answer your post the other day. SO you are thinking about Birmingham now too? well that sounds exciting! whats the name of the clinic?

heres my two cents. for your first time with IVF if thats what you end up doing go local. for scanning and understanding protocol it honestly helped me just nipping to Northampton 20mins away. I feel I know enough now to set up appointments with a local scanning clinic and just pop to Wales the night before egg collection and the night before transfer and drive back both days (Papa is driving me we are doing ROAD TRIPS YAAAAY!!!!).

I totally get if you want something more local. However if you are IVFing and you have to go to Birmingham for scans in the rush hour? thats not going to super easy, or super stress free. and this is purely based on the fact that on my last transfer day I was working in Cambridge when I got the call to say I should have the embryos transferred, so I had to do a 90min journey back to MK, get my dad (who would act as driver), then do a 30min journey to Northampton! so I know I could happily do a 3-4hour drive day of transfer if absolutely required (i.e. they decide on day 3 that the kids have gotta go back in and can't wait till day 5 as hoped!)

Maybe do a dry run to Birmingham to see in the morning traffic?

of course it all depends on the treatment you end up having and how you feel about it! so many decisions!

PhoenixMama · 17/05/2017 11:53

Yeah Stork's got it right. 47% of your swimmers are swimming the right way essentially (forwards)

This site is helpful: www.dontcookyourballs.com/diagnose-infertility-understand-semen-analysis-results

And thanks for the meditation suggestions Stork! Will check them out!

tygr · 17/05/2017 12:10

Hello.

Just had my initial consultation at CRGW.

Everything checked out normal in the scan although he couldn't find my left ovary - possibly because it was hidden by bowel gas Blush but everything he saw looked as it should.

I've had blood taken to test AMH level and have to decide whether to do an HSG - might have one more try to persuade the NHS but reckon I'll have to pay £300 to do it privately.

All being well, I could start IUI as soon as July.

I'm off to take some deep breaths to process it all.

Bear1980 · 17/05/2017 12:21

Oh thats the first steps doen tygr good for you. I decided to have tube test because although it may unecessarily increase the initial cost. The benefit of knowing everything looked ok outweighed the cost for me

StorkAhoy · 17/05/2017 12:30

Tygr you're at CRGW in Wales like me? yay! big deep breaths!

PhoenixMama · 17/05/2017 12:39

Great news Tygr! How long till you get your AMH results back? X

pickle162 · 17/05/2017 13:17

Ooh congratulations tygr, fab first step done wahoooooooo

tygr · 17/05/2017 13:34

AMH results due in a week or so - they'll call me.

Weird experience but also reassuring to have seen the inside of my uterus and one ovary this morning.

I'm making the most of being in civilisation by visiting the retail park! Where I live in mid Wales there are very few shops. I'm off to TK Maxx to hopefully buy a new pair of work trousers!

StorkAhoy · 17/05/2017 13:54

tygr I love that we are clinic buddies!

tygr · 17/05/2017 15:53

Smile When do you next have an appointment Stork? Sorry - am behind on the thread.

I'm currently in Asda. They have a liquidation sale on so I've bought a load of stuff for my PS4. The cashier assumed I was buying for my son. I played along. But really it's all for me... at the moment.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 17/05/2017 15:57

Well, I've had a setback but I'm not going to let it get me down.

I went in for a scan today. The good news is that my left ovary had one lead follicle (though it was a little small) and a few smaller ones, which is exactly what's wanted. The bad news is that I have a massive cyst on the right ovary that has squished everything else to the sides. It's 11cm wide at the widest point. Shock

Anyone else had experience of this? I am just rather disturbed such a thing can be in my body and I didn't realise. I mean, it is large enough to make a substantial difference to, well, how big my stomach is! It's too late in my cycle for it to be aspirated, so this cycle is cancelled. And there's no guarantee it won't return next month, or that I won't develop more, so this may be the end of the road for me for IUI. I'll go back to be scanned at the start of next cycle, and we'll see.

pickle162 · 17/05/2017 18:38

Thanks stork -I Had absolutely no preconceived idea about what the sperm was going to be. The lab said the clinic will send me a treatment summary anyway so will wait for all the info and ask them more questions if needed. Don't know that it will make a difference sometimes more info isn't more useful. Have with how many there were even if 53% aren't functioning-as long as they didn't get in the way of the healthy ones.
Thanks for the link Phoenix will take a look :)

Tygr one of my ovaries was hiding too because of squiggly belly, the nurse just pressed on my tummy to move it and tada there it was :)

Shit LRD 11cm!!! 😱 what are their plans? So so sorry your cycle has been called! 😔have they said whether the same problems would occur if you were to have ivf?big hugs lovely, that proper sucks. Have you got pcos?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 17/05/2017 18:56

I wouldn't have the faintest about sperm motility either! But I'm sure they'd say if it wasn't enough.

I do have PCOS, but apparently this isn't to do with that, it's either a fluke or a separate condition. They want to re-scan me at the start of my next cycle, and then aspirate it away (ouch!). IVF would get around the issue, but they advised me to keep trying with IUI for now as it's less invasive and she said that I was otherwise a good candidate for it (which we didn't know before this scan, as it might have been very different). So, fingers crossed for next month!

StorkAhoy · 17/05/2017 18:58

Christ LRD that's bloody unfortunate. So disappointing, I hope you get goods news re next cycle and IUIs.

pickle Sounds pretty good to me!

tygr my next appointment will be egg collection first week of July which sounds crazy, but it's true. I'm loving CRGW though, so communicative. And my consultant Amanda is great. Very reassuring. Much different to the clinicalness of my last FC. Perhaps the Welsh and just lovely?! I'm using a Welsh donor, so hope so Wink!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 17/05/2017 19:16

Thanks stork. It's ok really - I knew there was a high chance they'd have to cancel, but it's a bit depressing clocking up one more complicating factor that I didn't know about. Still, early days.

Your consultant sounds great (and the Welsh are fab! I've Welsh family - maybe the donor will bequeath a lovely Welsh singing voice?!). Roll on July!

kwick · 17/05/2017 19:53

Great progress @tygr !!!

What a fcuker @LRDtheFeministDragon
I had a mahoosive ovarian cyst when I was 19 (so over 20 years ago) and by the time it was detected the only treatment option I was given was to operate and remove cyst and ovary. It was the size of a grapefruit. It appears that in this day and age (and probs back then too) they would not advise entire ovary removal. I am so lucky that the osteopath that I was seeing at the time noticed my tummy was tender and advised I get a scan. GP thought I was psycho but I insisted - thank God I did!
I have got preggers even with one ovary - which I now ovulate out of each month - through IUI. All is not list for you @LRDtheFeministDragon !!!

@pickle162 you get a "treatment summary"??? I get nada from CRGH... so hope IVI is different.

PhoenixMama · 17/05/2017 20:11

LRD I'm so sorry to hear about your setback. Did they give you any info on why it's happening/happened? I don't have any info for you but sending hugs.

CautionHormone · 17/05/2017 20:14

Stork - its called The Priory, its part of the BMI private hospital collection :)

That's what I'm thinking - the distance. It's closer, so will be more convenient, and they're not too bothered by BMI either (although I am still losing weight)... They work on a case by case basis.

It's only about an hours drive away (non rush hour) but rush hour it's about an hour and a half/two hours (as you know) 😩
When it comes down to it, I could always use a local scanning clinic like you're doing (where abouts are these places, by the way?!) so that when it comes to the time I need to get to the FC, it's only two hours away instead of four...
Just, Birmingham seems more feasible instead of Wales to me at the moment, even though I love the idea of CRGW because of their customer/patient service.

You're right, sooooo many decisions, and this is the second time I've changed my mind on FC's now! I know for definite I don't want to go to CARE (even though I'm having my AMH done there on Monday - a bit cheeky of me!), but The Priory seems to be on the same kind of wavelength as CRGW and the distance issue wins!!

LRD that's awful - I'm so sorry! Did you have no symptoms for your cyst? I'm devastated for you, Flowers

Munrowalker · 17/05/2017 20:26

Sorry everyone I missed so much...just catching up on news now x

pickle162 · 17/05/2017 20:39

Apparently so @kwick that's what they said on the email so I was like wahoo.

@Munrowalker hey 😊how are you? How was your walk?

@CautionHormone you'll know which clinic seems right for you. Can u book a visit at the Birmingham clinic and see how drive goes
My clinic is 25miles away but can take around hour and half in rush hour and that is well and truly enough. Saying that if you aren't working or on annual leave I really didn't find it a bother, I love my clinic so was worth it, plus not really any clinics nearer for me

Munrowalker · 17/05/2017 20:46

Wow! 3 of us in the 2ww. How excting!! PMA all round 😚😚😚
Kwick that's a fabby weight loss too. What good news!
Sorry to hear about the cyst LDR. Hope they can sort it for you x
My last iui was also a fail. I'm in day 4 now of my next cycle.
My day 21 progesterone has been low for 2 months so my clinic has put me on clomid to boost ovulation.
Me and my DH are quietly optimistic as now I'm on the clomid I will get a scan at day12 to check follicles and lining which I didn't get on the natural iui.
This should hopefully give us better timing for the iui and the clinic think that this small amount of clomid should make a big difference. Fingers crossed

Munrowalker · 17/05/2017 20:50

Oh and my walk was fabulous! 44 miles over 3 days. Wild camping. Thankfully AF only showed on the last day.
We had lovely weather. Only very minor showers on the Sunday so that's super for Scottish Highlands! Here's a compulsory photo for you all
