Anybody a PIXIES fan?

Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

yes wasnt tanya donnelly half sister to the Deals. no idea how/why that information is in my brain....
i saw nirvana in paris 2 weeks before he er, called it a day. they were amazing.
the only band that i still listen too really often is REM they have stayed with me.
this stuff all used to be so important to me! who would have thought that my soul mate would turn out to be a pink floyd/ queen fan!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 21:33

Lucky you, moopymoo, I kid you not, I married a Cher fan

DaDaDa · 12/11/2007 21:56

Ranting Housewife, I was a Dentists fan! Saw them at Planet X in Liverpool and had their albums 'Some People Are On The Pitch They Think It's All Over It Is Now' and 'Heads and How To Read Them'. I think they were big(gish) in America for a while. Do I get a prize?!

Heard of Love Blobs...

DaDaDa · 12/11/2007 21:58

DW was into Acid Jazz til I 're-educated' her (typical overbearing bloke eh?) but she'd been a Stuffie before that.

Cher... not sure I could live with that!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:02

Dadada, you do indeed, am very impressed beyond all recognition that you 've heard of The dentists (and the Loveblobsfact I knew the drummer of the loveblobs!). Have the the LP Heads and how to read them. It's excellent!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:03

And have re educated my Cher fan, he has actually 'borrowed' Lush's Lovelife so I am making progress.

havalina · 12/11/2007 22:13

My dp is a prog rock fan (18 years older than me) so I have fuck all hope of converting him, although I did introduce him to the Dresden Dolls, and we have Placebo, SOAD, Polyphonic spree and the Eels in common, not bad I suppose lol

Wisteria, I think I went to the Square Club. I went to college in Swansea and we did venture up the M4. But, you know, we enjoyed ourselves so dates and venues a bit sketchy now.

I loved, loved, loved The Pixies and some b'stard stole my tapes from the car. Clearly a car thief with taste as he left behind the others. I do think about replacing them, I must do that.

Are you still in L Spa? I'm not a million miles from there.

CatIsSleepy · 12/11/2007 22:19

Wisteria I have that Doing it for the Kids compilation on vinyl...
and the Ride EPs too missTimms
saw them two or three times in Bristol...
and Lush
have not heard of the Loveblobs though, damn...

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:21

See now I've bared (some) of my obscure album secrets, I think you should all be obliged to remember yours.

serenity · 12/11/2007 22:23

Family Cat were from the West Country, maybe Yeovil I think. I think of them a lot actually, mainly as they were the original users of FCUK (Family Cat UK) - I have the t-shirts and badges, before that clothing company nicked the idea

Me and Dh don't agree completely on music (I fell asleep at a Cowboy Junkies concert, he doesn't get why I can have Pixies, Depeche Mode and Crowded House on the same MP3 mix) , but I find it hard to imagine being with someone totally musically incompatable.

Firepile · 12/11/2007 22:27

Moopymoo - Tanya Donnelly half sister to Kristin Hersh. I loved the Throwing Muses. Interviewed Kristin Hersh one. It was so emabrrassing - I kept banging on about women in rock, and quoting her lyrics at her. She was very kind to me in the circumstances...

My dp refuses to listen to this stuff at all - insists it's all just waily goth women, and leaves the room.

serenity · 12/11/2007 22:28

DH just pointed something out......moopymoo, Tanya Donelly is half sister to Kristen Hersh, not the Deal twins.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:29

I am very in awe of you FP, you met Kristin Hersh. Rofl at the waily goth women.

serenity · 12/11/2007 22:30

Firepile after the tHROWING mUSES SONG? sorry, caught the caps lock

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:33

Does anybody else remember that NME interview that The Throwing Muses did, where they were talking about a man wanking into a chicken and serving it up for dinner. Or did I dream that?

CatIsSleepy · 12/11/2007 22:33

obscure album secrets?
umm
just had a flip through...

Young Gods (weird swiss (?) noise merchants)
Butthole Surfers(weird American noise merchants)
ARKane
lots of My Bloody Valentine (OK not so obscure)
Cranes
American Music Club
King of the Slums
Soup Dragons

serenity · 12/11/2007 22:35

rhw - Dh remembers the interview - he went to see them play in Kilburn the day the NME came out and on stage, Kristen blamed the bass player for that little story (apparently I was there too but I really don't remember stuff like that )

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:35

Ha ha ha ha, the butthole surfers, yes I remember them, saw MBV at the Brixton Academy.
Get points for the The Young Gods, have NEVER heard of them!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:37

Am relieved that someone else remembers it too Serenity! I mentioned it to someone else and they looked at me like I was mad!

CatIsSleepy · 12/11/2007 22:41

young gods...noisy buggers!
good live...
couldn't stand to listen to them now though I don't think

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:53

No definitely haven't heard of them.
Here's th faith healers tho.

DontCallMeBaby · 12/11/2007 22:55

Best. Thread. Ever.

I'm doing a lot of revisiting my old music tastes recently, I had a tiny snippet of a song stuck in my head, and had to ask on another community if anyone could remember a song about a prehistoric man in a bog, something-man, four syllables, I am lonely, I am cold? Some absolute darling remembered it for me, and am in absolute bliss with the CD. Anyone got it? Answer below.

And I'm back in touch with the old friend with whom I will always associate Freakscene. When I need a friend it's STILL you.

Jerdacuttup Man by the Triffids

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 22:57

Freakscene is an excellent moshing song!

hellish · 13/11/2007 02:36

House of Love, must have seen them about 20 times, I used to collect the playlists and stick them on my wall (saddo I know) Anyone still need to jump around to Christine?
