Anybody a PIXIES fan?

Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

I saw them at Reading Festival many many years ago. They were a bit pants and I was disappointed. Saw them a few weeks later in Preston where they totally rocked.

I'm a huge fan.

Wow was worried I would be alone on that one!

Love them and saw them many times in my 'youth' although haven't managed to see any of their comeback shows (they just sell out too quickly!)

massivebigpantsface · 11/11/2007 07:40

yep i LOVE the pixies! I listen to them quite a lot still.
'Where is my mind?' rocks!

ImBarryScott · 11/11/2007 07:49

too young to see them 1st time round

but caught one of their reunion shows a couple of years back. my word, they were good.

aDadGoneMad · 11/11/2007 07:58

I'm a HUGE fan too. Must have seen them 6 or 7 times both first time round and second time round. I dont think any band has been as exciting since.

Only one of those gigs was anything below amazing, and that was at Alexandra Palace - a terrible venue for acoustics. If anyone is thinking of going to a gig there, don't!

PrunersOfEight · 11/11/2007 08:53

God I love the Pixies.
I am not too young, but just wasn't into them when they were around. DH saw them at Reading and I believe owns every album they ever made. I got into them later
Has anyone seen the reunion tour film? Really good, really quite poignant.

lucykate · 11/11/2007 09:29

loved the pixies as a student, was also into the breeders too, all the stuff i have is pre cd's so is either knackered tapes or on vinyl

Boco · 11/11/2007 09:34

The Pixies are great. Not listened to them for a while but when i do it's Doolittle that is my favourite album. Love the song 'hey'.

Yeah I went to that alexandra palace gig and it was just wierd, the best was the first reunion show at brixton and the one at the forum, sadly am too young for the first time round

PrunersOfEight · 11/11/2007 12:24

Boco that's my favourite song too
(thought the line about 'the sound the mother makes when the baby breaks' really doesn't sit well with me now.....bloody hormones)

aDadGoneMad · 11/11/2007 13:12

havalina - agree with you. I was at the brixton reunion one too, although upstairs. Still excellent though.

Also saw them at Brixton in 1990/1 (I think). It's the best large venue in london by far!

havalina · 11/11/2007 13:16

The brixton one was such a fun night, was downstairs near the ladies loos (where I always end up when I go there for some reason), everyone was going really mental. Must confess to being more than a little bit merry mind, a hazard of not getting out much

Gotta say my favourite song is nimrods son, you really can't beat shouting "you are the son of a motherfucker" out loud lol

ooh elfinblast i saw them in preston too. they were amazing. need to dig out surfa rosa i think. and the breeder they were great and belly and the lemonheads and teenage fanclub and the replacements and and god im old now seems like a million years ago.

aDadGoneMad · 11/11/2007 13:22

really cannot pick a favourite song, would be off surfer rosa or come on pilgrim though I think.

fullmoonfiend · 11/11/2007 21:35

Love the Pixies. Was trying to educate my sons today. Favourites are Where is My Mind, Gigantic, Monkey's Gone to Heaven, and Bons Machine.

I was hooked in my late teens when I first heard ''This is a song about a superhero named Tony..it's called Tony's Song''

janeite · 11/11/2007 21:44

I like them, especially "Debaser" and "Here Comes Your Man". Never seen them live though.

rantinghousewife · 11/11/2007 21:47

Yes, my favourite Pixies album is Surfer Rosa, saw them at the Crystal Palace bowl about 18 years ago. Can honestly say they were one of the best bands I've ever seen and when Frank Black started screaming the chorus of Tame, the heavens opened and it absolutely poured with rain. It was magnificent.

rantinghousewife · 11/11/2007 21:48

It's the 'You are the son of incestous union...123' that's genius!

Sazisi · 11/11/2007 21:50

Me too
They played Dublin a couple of years ago and they were brilliant, felt like a teenager again

rantinghousewife · 11/11/2007 21:52

Love the lyrics to 'I been tired' from Come on Pilgrim too. 'losing my penis to a whore with disease... she said 'excuse me please'. Much more affecting than anything Westlife have EVER done imo
