Anybody a PIXIES fan?

Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

Ah, happy memories of wandering drunkenly round Portsmouth shouting my way from 'if man is five' to 'THEN GOD IS SEVEN'.

colditz · 11/11/2007 22:37

I used to love the Pixies.

cerys · 11/11/2007 23:02

My favourite Pixies songs are Debaser and Velouria. Also loved the Breeders and Throwing Muses. Would have loved to see any of them live, but have happy (if slightly vague!) memories of being a student and drunken nights.

ranting housewife - I went to the crystal palace bowl gig, and I dont even remember the rain. Maybe they played there more than once?
It was (lesser bands!) in support like Ride, and Cud. Again, an amazing gig - dont know why that bowl isn't used any more.

ImBarryScott · 12/11/2007 08:26

ooooh, Ride. now they were a good band.

I think Mark Gardiner was my first pre-teen crush

Berrie · 12/11/2007 08:27

Love 'em. Saw them at Reading once but was disapointed. Don't listen to them much now but it's amazing how the lyrics are embedded. DH and I often come out with a snatch of song or a quote.

MioMao · 12/11/2007 09:01

Another fan here. Was a bit young to see them first time round, but my elderly DH was lucky enough to see them a few times in small venues in London and Manchester.

I got to see them 3 years ago at the V Festival - rubbish festival, but the band was great! Was pregnant with DD at the time, so she can also claim she has heard them live!

Also love the Breeders, seen them a few times, including All Tomorrow's Parties 2002, where they completed the awesome experience by playing a rocking version of the Buffy theme tune! Bliss!

aDadGoneMad - CUD!!! I saw them once in Bristol but had to leave early to get the train back, as I was in the middle of finals. Was hoovering while listening to "Only a prawn in Whitby" yesterday

MrsMills · 12/11/2007 09:40

Goodness me CUD! DS 1 and 2 love to sing Rich and Strange v v loud on the way home from school.

aDadGoneMad · 12/11/2007 09:44

leggy mambo album was pretty good.

They were no pixies though!

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 09:51

I really like Pixies as well

francagoestohollywood · 12/11/2007 09:53

I also love Frank Black's "Los Angeles"

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 10:02

Oh yes, saw them several times in their heyday; they did a fab double-headed tour with Throwing Muses who were another great fave of mine and we managed to catch them twice on that. Saw them at the Crystal Palace Bowl a few years later too.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 10:16

Yes adadgonemad, ride and cud supported (and I think The Milltown Brothers opened), it did rain, started out a lovely day then we had a huge but brief downpour, during tame.
Saw Ride more times than I can shake a stick at (including at the Shamrock club in Peterborough, which had the grand sum of about 25 attendees), I stood so close to Mark Gardiner, could see the sweat dripping from his brow! And Cud supported loads of bands during that time, I saw them a lot. Were good.
Am I the only person who remembers the excellent Th' Faith Healers? There must be someone here who remembers them.

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 10:31

Ah, Cud! I loved their cover of You Sexy Thing...

southeastastra · 12/11/2007 10:34

saw them at brixton and mean fiddler. they were mad. best band live ever. love frank black too especially first couple of his solo albums.

aDadGoneMad · 12/11/2007 10:35

was it the Boo Radleys also on that bill at Crystal Palace? Could well have been milltown brothers too.

Can't say the Faith Healers mean much to me!

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 10:36

I also like Kim Deal's band The Breeders a lot.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 10:38

Yes, the Boo Radleys were there too. How could I forget that! Well if you don't remember the faith healers, you surely remember Silverfish and the wonderful song Big Bad Baby Pig Squeal!

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 10:39

I remember Silverfish! F**king Driving or What!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 10:41

"Hips lips tits POWER"

aDadGoneMad · 12/11/2007 10:43

Lol God yes, hadnt thought of the band or the song for years!!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 10:46

Blimey I am so sad, am quite excited that someone else has heard of 'F**king driving or what!

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 10:47
