Anybody a PIXIES fan?

Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

oh i love this thread. lololol at cher fan ranting! and yes now recall hersch/ donnelly connection. i loved 'your ghost' that kirsten hersch did with m stipe (swoon)
AMC were very good. i loved teenage fanclub too.

Wisteria · 13/11/2007 08:40

I was jumping around the kitchen to it last night, much to the embarrassment of my chavvy 14yr old - then I chose to inflict doing it for the kids on younger dd and friend on way to swimming - oh I am evil!

The Square Club was near the station and The Philly in Cardiff..

I live near Nottingham now but still go to L/Sap a lot to visit brothers and friends...

Do you remember Bath Place in Leamington? - that was a great moshing venue.

I loved the Cranes and the Butthole Surfers....wish I could do this again all day but must go to Pilates and college , catch you all later.........

Wisteria · 13/11/2007 08:44

Oh yeah and I'm with a dance music fan who is being weaned off it gradually....... He quite likes Morcheeba now and Skye and will cope with some of the more mellow stuff ..I think we only have The chemical bros and prodigy in common! Have to say I am a complete control freak about music though and won't allow a lot of his stuff to be played while I'm in the house [bitch emoticon]

Seriously though, wouldn't have given him car room in my teens & twenties........

Firepile · 13/11/2007 09:04

Serenity - Yes indeed. Specifically the line "call that firepile a home" as I surveyed my living room in despair...

Glad to see Dinosaur Jr making an appearance too- am I the only one that starts humming whenever I pass a branch of Beanscene? And how middle aged is that?

CatIsSleepy · 13/11/2007 10:12

freakscene was one of my favourite songs to dance to at the Kandi Klub in bristol when i was a styooodent long time ago...

actually me and a friend were trying to remember another song we used to dance to there called somehting like Revolution (?). We were racking our brains to come up with the artist-I thought Sonic Youth but think I was wrong.
It went something like 'it takes 10 seconds.....just 10 seconds....something something REVOLUTION ' then the guitars go crazy...
come on I know someone will know....

yes yes House of love how could I have missed them out?

moopy...didn't AMC make the most gorgeously miserable music ever

DaDaDa · 13/11/2007 10:54

That was Spacemen 3, Cat Is Sleepy.

Load of tosh!

CatIsSleepy · 13/11/2007 10:57

oh it was spacemen 3.....why didn't i remember that...thanks!
@ load of tosh comment dadada not jangly enough for you eh?

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 11:02

Right, inspired by this thread, I've spent the morning crashing about in the garage, looking at my vinyl racks (no mean feat, there is fecking hundreds of 'em) and I've pulled out 5 Loop album (I don't even remember liking Loop), some Big Black, (Atomizer, Songs about F**king), a well worn Adorable EP (Sunshine Smile, I loved that song v. good live), The Popguns, The Heartthrobs (also v. good live and one of them was the sister of Pete De Freitas of The Bunnymen) and some Spacemen 3!

DaDaDa · 13/11/2007 11:03

Drug addled middle class dilettante bollocks with no soul or substance.

IMHO of course

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 11:04

Which ones?
Was never a huge Spacemen 3 fan but, I did see Spiritualized and they were very good live.

CatIsSleepy · 13/11/2007 11:10

blimey dadada say what you really think why doncha

of course it was all of those things but still good to dance to in a sweaty indie club on a friday night...IMHO

DaDaDa · 13/11/2007 11:15

Of course. I thought so too! Head down, shake your fringe, pretend you've taken something psychedelic.

But I was still secretly wishing they were playing the Smiths...

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 11:16

I take it you won't be wanting my copies then

DaDaDa · 13/11/2007 11:18

Gawd no. I'd rather listen to Cher than Spacemen 3.

CatIsSleepy · 13/11/2007 11:20

rh do you ever play your vinyl any more? would you ever get rid of it?
I wavered a few years ago and nearly got rid of a load of stuff...then chickened out so still have it even though I never play any records any more...

ah Dadada if the indie club in question was any good they'd have played the Smiths as well...

oh god it was all such a long time ago I am feeling old

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 11:23

Yes I do still have a turntable, I have it hooked up to a seperate amp and I have downloaded some stuff onto my pc using Audiograbber (bit of software) so I do still dust em off and have a listen. Never got the Loop albums out to have a listen though!

DaDaDa · 13/11/2007 11:25

Don't bother

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 11:27

5 of the flaming things, though! I can't even remember liking them, must have been influenced by a bloke somewhere!

CatIsSleepy · 13/11/2007 11:45

5 loop albums does seem a little excessive

hmm very enterprising on the record front rh
don't think am technically-minded enough for that sort of thing...plus a lot of it I probably would only listen to once then realise my tastes have changed ....though I wouldn't mind some of it on my computer-have a box set of NickDrake LPs that it would be nice to be able to transfer.

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 11:50

Linking up the amp is a piece of cake (I have to do these things myself because dh just not interested in music, hence the Cher CD!) The software does take a bit of faffing to get it right but it is free, so a small price to pay.
Found some Bleach EPs too, anyone remember them!

Dinosaur · 13/11/2007 12:05

rantinghousewife I listened to Sunshine Smile this morning on my iPod - it made me go all shivery and now I can't get it out of my head.

Lol at five loop albums! I used to listen to a lot of Loop. I liked Mother Sky, you could nip out for a takeaway, bring it home, eat it, and wash up after it, and Mother Sky would still be going...

CatIsSleepy · 13/11/2007 12:07

thought Mother Sky was Can...unless Loop covered it which is always possible

god I'd forgotten about Can too and I've probably got at least 4 or 5 of their albums tucked away somewhere

rantinghousewife · 13/11/2007 12:09

Remember Mother Sky, Th' Faith Healers did a fab cover of that.
I really love Sunshine Smile, I have that on my ipod, I transferred the vinyl, have to be honest and say I can't remember anything else Adorable did. But that song is fabulous.

DontCallMeBaby · 13/11/2007 20:44

I was off on a Spacement 3 sort of loop the other day, seeing if my Spiritualized vinyl (Soul Kiss (Glide Divine) on clear vinyl, oil-filled sleeve) is worth anything (answer - yes) and was quite astonished to find out that Sonic Boom is still alive, I thought he would have overdosed or something years ago.

Dinosaur · 14/11/2007 22:13

I really liked Spacemen 3 and Spiritualised too.
