Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

Bit late to this thread but can say yes to having seen live some of these...

The Young Gods (twice)
The Popguns
American Music Club (twice)

and also used to frquent the Venue, Amersham Arms etc!

oh yeah, and like the Pixies too

MegBusset · 14/11/2007 22:42

Oh, and I've got an album by Th'Faith Healers!

Dinosaur · 14/11/2007 22:43

I remember the Young Gods! They were Swiss, weren't they?

MegBusset · 14/11/2007 22:45

They were, Swiss and from what I can remember, Very Loud. Though not as loud as Swans, possibly the most ear-hurting band I've ever seen.

Easywriter · 14/11/2007 23:01

Can I just chuck a few more oldies but goodies into the equation?

Anyone remember/like
Gaye Bykers on Acid
The Cardiacs
Balaam and the angel
Husker Du
Godflesh
The Darling Buds

I could go on, I'd better not!

I LOVE the Pixies! dh & I bought tickets for T in the Park in 2004 when we heard they were playing - the actual day they were performing hadn't even been announced so we got weekend tickets just to be sure (have never before or since felt even slightly inclined to go to T). Then a couple of weeks before the festival I discovered I was pg with dd3 & couldn't face the festival loos so the tickets went on ebay [sob]. Thankfully my parents babysat dd so we could see them at Murrayfield in August 2005 & they were fantastic

dh has every Pixies/Frank Black album ever made & that's what's usually in the cd player. It's just a good job the dcs like it too - 1yo ds has learned to undo his nappies & was standing starkers in his playpen yesterday, holding on to the bars & bobbing up & down to Debaser. It fair put me off my lunch.

Easywriter · 14/11/2007 23:03

Young Gods were ace (particularly their Kurt Weill) album.

Has just reminded me of LAibach though (now they were... not very tuneful).

Dinosaur · 15/11/2007 10:24

Easywriter, Husker Du are quite possibly my favourite band ever. You Can Live At Home Now would always make it in to my top 10. Still sounds fantastic played very loud on an iPod.

MegBusset · 15/11/2007 10:43

I love Husker Du too

Dinosaur · 15/11/2007 10:44

Oh wow Husker Du fans. You don't get many of those to the quarter pound!

The Hold Steady owe Husker Du a lot, imo.

MegBusset · 15/11/2007 10:50

Haven't even heard The Hold Steady

MegBusset · 15/11/2007 10:52

How 'bout The Replacements then?

Dinosaur · 15/11/2007 11:00

Oh yes, yer man out of The Hold Steady always cites them as his major influence, doesn't he? I do like The Replacements, Bent All Out Of Shape and Someone Take The Wheel are great tracks.

aDadGoneMad · 15/11/2007 11:02

I've linked to this before, but worth it again on a pixies thread...

mathew's celebrity pixies covers

He does pixies covers in the style of other artists, ie "the BeeGees" doing Wave of Mutilation, and "Prince" doing Hey among others.

The result is pure genius!

moopymoo · 15/11/2007 11:04

ooh i love the replacements and paul westerberg solo stuff.
and husker du. and bob mould. have really enjoyed this thread its got me rummaging through my record collection

moopymoo · 15/11/2007 11:05

anybody used to go the raiders/the warehouse/ byrons in preston? prob not..they were great clubs.

Dinosaur · 15/11/2007 11:46

not me, only been to preston once

rantinghousewife · 15/11/2007 19:50

Yes, Easywriter I remember all of them, (The Cardiacs' singer sat on my lap at a party once) and Laibach!, I have a copy of their 'Sympathy for The Devil'.
The Darling Buds - Burst was a fabulous song.
And someone who went to the Amersham Arms and knows who th' Faith Healers are, Megbusset! I knew someone on here would!

Wisteria · 16/11/2007 10:44

YAY!!!!

I've just secured 2 MBV tickets for June - all thanks to BigmouthStrikesAgain.....

Dinosaur · 16/11/2007 10:46

Ooh, saw them in Camden many years ago, they were obviously having a bad night as it just descended into unlistenable, squealy feedback! That would be about 1989 or so I think - does that sound right?

Wisteria · 16/11/2007 10:56

Yes I think so... I've never seen them before tbh but as they are selling like hot cakes and haven't played for 15 years I thought it was too good to pass up.

Dinosaur · 16/11/2007 10:56

Fab band.

Inspired by this thread I have loaded up my iPod with old pixies tracks - Come On Pilgrim!

Wisteria · 16/11/2007 11:14

I did that this morning (likewise inspired by this thread)then strode off across the fields with JMC, Breeders, Pixies, Smiths, Stone Roses, Inspirals and others!

Dinosaur · 16/11/2007 11:15

Aaarrghh I have no stone roses on mine. Must do something about that.

Wisteria · 16/11/2007 11:22

Have you heard the new Ian Brown version of Sister Rose - where he's singing in Japanese? it's superb..

In fact the more I listen to Zane Lowe the more I like him......
