Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

I reckon it's highly probable that we've stomped on someone on here with our DMs at one time or other.

glammama · 12/11/2007 12:23

We went down with the World of Twist to their gig at the then Camden Palace. I was mates with the girlfriend of the singer of The Man From Delmonte and the Manchester music scene was quite incestuous. I listened to Pacific 202 (?) by 808 state and nearly fainted when I discovered it was 18 years ago!!!!
Anyone know The Man From Delomonte "My Love is Like a Gift"?

glammama · 12/11/2007 12:24

meant to say I have just listened to 808 State.

lucykate · 12/11/2007 12:24

we used to frequent the back room of the princess charlotte in leicester. was there the night the manic's were due to play (as a 4 piece before richie went missing) but their bus broke down and they cancelled at the last minute.

moopymoo · 12/11/2007 12:24

oh oh i used to wear dms and stripy black and purple tights and skirts with mirrors on and drink snake bit and black.

moopymoo · 12/11/2007 12:26

i saw the manics in a pub in blackburn with richie just after motor cycle emptiness. they were fab iirc

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:27

used to love the man from Delmonte

Just found some Indie charts from 90-92 on you tube, really funny! NFADS were number 1.... they were the days

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:28

here

glammama · 12/11/2007 12:29

Are you from Manchester Wisteria?

bunnyhunny · 12/11/2007 12:29

pixies as in 'this monkeys gone to heaven'?

they are so fab!!!

I drove all the way from cambridge to tea in the park in scotland to see them live!!

DaDaDa · 12/11/2007 12:30

Yep glammama, Man from Delmonte (and Railway Children etc) was more my kind of thing - poppy and jangly.

Thought their singer was gay though? Lots of the lyrics were pretty unequivocally so.

Another 35 year old here by the way!

lucykate · 12/11/2007 12:31

i used to wear cherry docs (ankle boot ones), black leggings, a vintage short dress and suede waistcoat over the top

i thought looked so cool, but looking back, i looked ridiculous!

serenity · 12/11/2007 12:32

Oh bloody hell, The Family Cat get mentioned on Mumsnet????? The world must be ending. It was weird enough finding a Family Cat page on facebook (although there's only about 3 of us who post on there, lol)

Now, their gigs were small enough that I probably trod on the toes of any other MNers who saw them in London. I loved Fred to bits, much to Dhs amusement.

We used to see/listen to most of the bands mentioned so far. I've rediscovered loads of them recently thanks to the joys of YouTube - there's some amazing old stuff on there.

I still have my 'Hips, Tits, Lips, Power' t-shirt somewhere. We have a bag packed away with all the band t-shirts that we couldn't face getting rid of

serenity · 12/11/2007 12:32

and I fit the general trend - I'm 36.

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:33

No, I grew up in Leamington Spa and was at college in Cardiff. Did a lot of National Expressing though in the quest for live music!

I have a white label by the Railway Children somewhere - exb was the A&R man for A&M and Island records.

glammama · 12/11/2007 12:34

That link still gives me goose bumps. I posted a comment on that some time back. Jin Ronson used to manage the band back in the day and we all used tyo go to Kai's in Chinatown. Mike's doing well, and we know what John Ronson's up to. I'm living in a tiny flat in east London working for the Council I won't name drop anymore but Saul off James used to rent a room off Mike West in Longsight and I lived there too in Saul's room when he wasn't there. I once commented to Saul that I liked his bin. Turned out to be a rather snazzy drum without the skin on. Ooops. And Saul was the only macrobiotic I knoew who'd eat strawbery tarts. Top bloke, he was/is.

lucykate · 12/11/2007 12:34

life could have been so different if only the manic's had turned up that night. james would have seen me through the crowd, fallen instantly in love and we'd have been together ever since >sigh

glammama · 12/11/2007 12:35

DaDaDa, Mike has what I call a Comprehensive Sexuality (as all the best people do, sweetie) !

CatIsSleepy · 12/11/2007 12:36

ooh I loved them....still do

first band I ever saw (in Birmingham when I was 17)
and the last (Brixton, couple of years ago or whenever)
they are the best live band

LOL@ The Family Cat
I might even have seen them, I can't quite remember...

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:38

name drop all you like glam - why not? It's very interesting; I would imagine you knew/ fell over my ex at some point then.......not doing names though!

the saul link is pretty cool though!

DaDaDa · 12/11/2007 12:39

Good for him!

Here's an obscure one for Pre Madchester jangle fans The Waltones

glammama · 12/11/2007 12:46

Thanks DadaDa, you have made me feel about 10 years older than I did a minute ago. Wisteria, I may well have done but now you have got my mind working......who could it be??????

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:47

too obscure even for me Dadada! Don't remember them, had forgotten about the brilliant corners too though!

This is not getting my assignment done but far more interesting

CatIsSleepy · 12/11/2007 12:52

hehe just spotted Wisteria's reference to monkey boots.
I used to wear them too

OK here's a challenge
anyone remember the Kitchens of Distinction?
