Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

I think it went in the dusters bag quite a few years ago now, though...

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 10:51

I still have the heavy cotton Cud t shirt, it comes to my knees and I use it as a nightdress!

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 10:51

Love 'em , many happy pissed memories can be attributed to the Pixies - especially in a little club in Cardiff (sadly gone the way of all good things now) called The Square Club....

willow · 12/11/2007 10:52

Massive fan, both of the band, and of the chap who produced so many of their best work: Gil Norton. (Echo & The Bunnymen/Foo Fighters and loads of other top stuff.)

Saw The Pixies a couple of times, but the best was at the Mean Fiddler. Awesome.

willow · 12/11/2007 10:52

so much, even

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 10:52

adad - my ex at the time discovered The Milltown Bros and I was present at many of their first gigs - have some photos somewhere!!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 10:58

The Milltown Bros had a minor hit didn't they, what was it called?

DaDaDa · 12/11/2007 11:02

"Which Way Should I Jump?"

Silverfish. Blimey. Is this Ex-Grebo Mumsnet?

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:04

Ohh, yes it is!
Don't think you've lived until you've spent a night among the sweaty masses of The Venue at New Cross

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 11:07

rantinghousewife I bet we have rubbed up against each other (ooer) in many a moshpit

I used to go to the Venue a lot, and even used to frequent it in its previous incarnation as the Harp Club.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:09

Yes, probably, did you used to drink in The Amersham Arms and The Snowdrop?(think thats what it was called) aswell?

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 11:10

No, I don't remember either of those!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:11

Saw quite a few bands at the Venue, Carter the USM was one of them!

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 11:19

I can't actually remember many gigs there (which is probably a testament to the dreadful sttates I used to get myself in) . I do remember seeing a rather obscure Australian band called the Celibate Rifles, mainly because they were mates with the boys who lived next door to me. And I saw Grant Hart (ex Husker Du) there.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:20

Yes, saw Grant Hart too, you and I have definitely shared a moshpit!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:21

And the Family Cat, I vividly remember The Family Cat for some reason.

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 11:21

One of my biggest regrets is that I never saw the mighty Husker Du live. Did you?

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:22

No, never saw Husker Du, although I own one of their albums, saw Sugar (Bob Mould's pet project) though.

southeastastra · 12/11/2007 11:22

we saw sugar they were mad too

Dinosaur · 12/11/2007 11:24

Yes, Sugar also excellent. Bob Mould released a brilliant solo album last year called Body of Song which I really recommend.

I think The Hold Steady have a lot in common with Husker Du.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:27

I loved Husker Du, and Mudhoney and Buffalo Tom. Saw Mudhoney and Buffalo Tom live, they were excellent.

DaDaDa · 12/11/2007 11:27

The Family Cat had some decent tunes. Most of these bands around 91ish were a bit lacking in tunes for my taste.

I was probably stood at the back of most of these gigs, wishing Trashcan Sinatras were on instead.

Do love the Pixies though. Different class.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:28

I own a Trashcan Sinatras album!

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 11:50

I'd forgotten all about Mudhoney... could never forget Carter though, saw them in Munich in 92 and the gig was nearly empty so they all came and got pissed with us afterwards, was great!

Here I stand and apple green were good tracks by the milltowns as well - they are still playing festivals I believe.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 11:53

Think Apple Green was the one I remember, I'm sure they got into the charts withit, (although I never bothered chart watching).
Jim Bob and Fruit bat used to drink in our local but I've never drunk with them!
Have shared a few with Jarvis Cocker tho.
Dadada, you're welcome to my Trashcan Sinatras album, I only played it once, didn't like it.
