Anybody a PIXIES fan?

Prompted by the repeat showing of their acoustic show on sky, made me watch the DVD which I think was filmed in 1989 or summat, marvelous anyway. Love the Pixies so much, they make me do dancing when drunk, which isn't really a good thing

Are you from Sheffield then rant?

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 12:02

No, Pulp were supporting a lot of bands in '90 91 and Jarvis attended quite a lot of gigs with Terry Bickers (who used to be in the house of love).
We got chatting at a gig at the Town and Country (in Kentish Town)one night and shared a few beers, nice chap. Was quite pleased when they 'made it' a few years later.

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:04

I loved the House of Love, the album was literally never off the turntable for some considerable time. Going to put it on now actually - I love threads like this.

Been playing the Wedding Present for the last 20 mins as this reminded me of them too!

Does anyone else remember the World of Twist?

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 12:07

The World of Twist, did they do The Storm, if so then yes, I remember them

aDadGoneMad · 12/11/2007 12:09

oooh yes loved the world of twist. Storm was a long dancey one. They also did a cover of She's like a rainbow.

Can i throw another name into the mix - new fast automatic daffodils. another great live band that we would try to catch every time.

moopymoo · 12/11/2007 12:10

oh crumbs so many bands on here that i used to love. husker du and sugar and bob mould stuff was all amazing. it makes me want to get my vinyl out of the loft and give it a stroke...
how about...neds atomic dustbin, the railway children, pop will eat itself. i was a bit fierce though and a big new model army fan.

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:10

Yes! and She's a rainbow, which I'm sure I heard a cover of on an advert the other day....

Also, while we're on the subject there's an ad for an album on tv at the moment which I am convinced is a cover of The Cocteau Twins Blue Bell Knoll in English - some chap with a single in the charts at the moment, forget his name, quite good though..

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:11

Saw them in Cardiff adad, were awesome..

had forgotten they existed as well!

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 12:11

Yes, love the newfads, never saw them live tho, or if I did, I was too drunk to remember!

moopymoo · 12/11/2007 12:11

NEw Fads! how funny.. its all john peel related isnt it.

southeastastra · 12/11/2007 12:12

loved the poppies, they used to come on to the lunatics have taken over the asylum

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 12:13

I loved The Cocteau's, never saw them either but, still play Treasure quite a lot.

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:13

saw the poppies about 2 years ago at RockCity in Nottingham, was so funny as Clint had to sit down half way through for a 'rest' - they were still fab but older and fatter, like my good self!

moopymoo · 12/11/2007 12:14

im guessing we are all about 35...

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:14

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 12:15

Moopymoo, I used to listen avidly to John Peel on a Friday night as a teenager. About the time he had a thing for, was it Extreme Noise Terror?

southeastastra · 12/11/2007 12:15

are they back together again? last time i saw them was in the early 90s. love to see them again.

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 12:15

Moopymoo, you are good!

moopymoo · 12/11/2007 12:18

oh yes extreme noise terror and napalm death. i thought that was the height of cool. pretty unlistenable now i find ! did you buy the NME or Melody Maker? i wanted to be Julie Birchill. not so sure now though...

rantinghousewife · 12/11/2007 12:19

Yes, used to buy both, just so I didn't miss anything!

lucykate · 12/11/2007 12:19

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:20

seems they won't be back, 5 days only in 05 but there is a spin off with other 3, unfortunately not Clint and Rich...

Wisteria · 12/11/2007 12:21

Do you think we all knew each other in a former life then??

Still waiting to hear from someone who frequented the Square Club...

aDadGoneMad · 12/11/2007 12:21
