If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

Sorry I posted too soon - how long was the power off for and did you open the door of the freezer?

AmberIsACertainty · 22/05/2021 16:07

unescorted I'm not sure but think it'll be fine. Everything working at 3am, I noticed at noon nothing worked, working again by 2.30pm. The door was never opened in that time so I think it's fine. Was just worried when I realized electric was off because I've got a full freezer. Was mentally planning what to eat first, how much would fit in a friend's fridge, what is fine to cook once defrosted and how long it could last after cooking etc, to waste the least amount of food possible.

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/05/2021 17:30

In think that will be fine amber. Leave it closed to refreeze. Jobs a good un

£8 coop, £15 scoot park, no other ££

Sigh

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/05/2021 17:31

How are the brownies? I often bake when stressed calms me down but bad for the lbs rather then the ££

Wolfcub · 22/05/2021 18:09

I made experimental fat rascals. Good taste, texture not quite right.

Unescorted · 22/05/2021 20:44

The brownies are lovely.

I am in the refreeze camp.

Gosh sounds like a busy weekend for everyone.
life what a nightmare about the house
mrs sounds like you are busy shopping (and caring)
unescorted hope the parental crisis is sorted for now
em hope you are relaxing
Not sure who I’ve forgotten!

Turned over a new leaf with food shopping and determined to keep on budget which is £180 this week (as topping up for the month)
So £49 Costco
£42 Lidl
£23 butchers
£69.57 Tesco
Which is slightly over but not much...
Have been on a day trip today so ended up shopping in a few places! Actually had a coffee on a cafe for the first time since last March...

AmberIsACertainty · 22/05/2021 23:19

@Wolfcub

I made experimental fat rascals. Good taste, texture not quite right.
Gosh, my eyes! I read that as "rat facials" first time 😂

Been for a walk in the park this evening. Birds tweeting, a few dog walkers, some trees still blossoming and many bees flitting around their favourite bush. £13.40 magazine, colouring book, pack of nail files and sweets. The liquorice tubes with the coloured middles, if anybody's wondering.

ememem84 · 23/05/2021 07:36

Went riding yesterday. £35.

Massive achievement for me - cantered over 3 jumps in a row. Something I’ve always been too afraid to do. So happy with myself.

Wolfcub · 23/05/2021 08:29

Well done Em

Amber your evening spunds lovely

Martha well done on turning over a new leaf

ememem84 · 23/05/2021 08:43

Taking the dc to do a food shop today. Dh wanted to come too but he also wants the kids out of the way so he can get on with the garden. Doesn’t quite understand that if I take the kids to the shop…he’ll get alone time…..

Pancakes for breakfast. Dh had his lie in.

Now the kids are dancing like loons to kate bush.

As much as I get a bit fed up with being mum sometimes (thanks pnd and anxiety) I love those little weirdos. Ds is in his shorty pjs a policeman’s hat and a high vis vest busting out some moves to withering heights….

Taytocrisps · 23/05/2021 09:48

It's raining cats and dogs here. I'm taking DD to ex-SIL's house today. We've always been good friends and we've agreed that the separation won't change that. Also, she's godmother to DD and has always been a very fun and interested aunt/godmother to DD. We'll be bringing a picnic and sitting in her shed, as none of us are vaccinated yet. Dad and my eldest sister may be calling in later.

Spendy day yesterday:-

Woodies DIY store - €24.48 (rechargeable batteries and a chopping board)
Pet shop - €70.00 (cat litter and food)
Supermarket shop - €53.39
Local shop - €5.20 (things they didn't have in supermarket)
Butchers - €6.90

I spent more on the cats than I spent on shopping for me and DD Smile. Although the cat food will last me two weeks.

The non-essential shops have opened in the past week or two, so DD and I went shopping during the week. DD had a gift card for Penneys (a.k.a. Primark) so she bought a few tops, jeans, a sweatshirt, sandals and a few random bits. I bought a shirt and navy cropped trousers in a boutique - I used some money my Dad gave me for my birthday. We also stocked up on socks. Then we had McDonalds. It was great to do something so normal as a shopping trip and McDonalds. It really gave us a boost. Even though we had to wear face masks and we had to eat the McDonalds food in the car, because indoor dining isn't permitted yet.

I think I mentioned last week that our health service (HSE) has been hacked. The hackers have demanded a ransom and are saying they will publish all of the information on the dark web if the ransom isn't paid by Monday i.e. tomorrow. Basically, they will publish the hospital records of every person in Ireland if the ransom isn't paid. Not a very nice prospect. I'm in good heath and haven't had much reason to attend a hospital - most of my medical records are held by my GP who I attend in a private capacity. But I feel very sorry for anyone with sensitive medical records who wouldn't want them published - could be anything from a miscarriage, abortion, AIDS, mental health issues etc. The hackers will also have access to things like our PPS numbers (I think you use national insurance numbers?) and Dates of Birth - apparently they could sell this information to criminals. Anyway, we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Unescorted sorry to hear about the latest incident with your DM. Well deserved brownies!

Amber sounds like a nice evening walk.

em brave girl doing your jumps. Your description of the DC dancing to Kate Bush made me smile.

Bornlazy · 23/05/2021 11:16

Morning everyone. Sorry I've been absent this week but I had a really awful sickness bug that absolutely floored me. I'm much better now, thankfully, and managed to go to my brothers house yesterday for the first time in 5 months. How weird is that? It actually doesn't feel as long as that but at the same time feels like an eternity. We had a lovely day catching up - so normal feeling.

You've all been busy. Life I'm sorry about the house move. I'd no idea it was all so precarious. Puppy will make you care less.

north enjoy your break from work and camping. My ds2 is doing his exams/not exams at the moment and it's pretty relentless. He doesn't care that much (unfortunately) and isn't sure what he wants to do when he leaves school. It must be hard for kids who had a definite plan in place and are struggling and stressing now.

Unescorted it's hard dealing with elderly parents. Enjoy the brownies.

Tayto that's terrible! I wonder what they will do. Surely paying up would just make more hackers have a go.

Gen that was quite a restrained shopping splurge - could have been worse 😉

4 days until payday. Hoping for at least 2 Nsd to finish in the red.

Bornlazy · 23/05/2021 11:17

That should say NOT to finish in the red 🙈

Gensola · 23/05/2021 11:23

tayto that’s insane! Are the government not going to sort it out?!

We are going to my SIL for lunch, I’m looking forward to it but nervous too as we haven’t been too far from home yet since surgery.

Nervous about round 2 of surgery on Wednesday, as I’m relying a lot on my “good” leg atm, and it will leave me with two injured legs!

oliveroses · 23/05/2021 11:29

Tayto the hack situation is stressful, I hope it gets sorted Confused

Am not quite halfway through my financial month and spent over half my budget so a modest couple of weeks in store!

It's dreadful weather here too though it means I'm spending less on the garden. Have lots to plant out and just haven't had the opportunity.

We have friends coming over for lunch and our little boy has been dodging naps all morning so something tells me I'm going to spend most of the day watching other people drinking Prosecco while I cuddle a very overstimulated little person. It is so good to see people again though, feels like a weekend!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 23/05/2021 11:52

Hi! Can I join you? I'm terrible for spending just on randomness which I need to get better at. Ive got 2 dds, eldest is 12 and at the phone permanently glued to her hand stage and dd2 is 8 (9 soon) since lockdown,, she has become very clingy, wanting to be near me and on me permanently its like going back to the toddler years again!

So this week i spent a bit as bought some presents for dd2, I got a few bath sets and nail varnish in the super drug £1 sale, bought a bundle of lol dolls from ebay for £100 (massive bargain so very chuffed!), an ariana grande tshirt and fur jacket from vinted £10. Wrapping paper in primark. And a giant tea pot doll set thing from amazon for £11 dd1 chose for her. I have added a few fidget toys in a basket on toysforapound and a victorious poster on ebay but am deciding whether or not to get them....

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/05/2021 13:14

£130 on stuff for doggo. Picking him up next week.
£10 coop.
£2 tennis tape for grips.
£12 white sport vest to go with some new lll leggings

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/05/2021 13:14

Oh and £8 breakfast walk with a God friend

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/05/2021 13:15

Good friend.

ememem84 · 23/05/2021 13:16

£80.01 (how annoying!!!!) in waitrose this morning. I didn’t take a list 😕 and the dc conned me into buying gingerbread men 🙄👍🏻😀

Having roast chicken for dinner. With frozen toasties Yorkers and pigs in blankets. Plus veg. Also bought a pudding (brioche bread and butter pudding. Yummm.

Tidied out the fridge and have just done the freezer. Hence having the frozen potatoes pigs and yorkies for dinner.

Managed to reduce freezer capacity a lot by decanting multiple bags of stuff into one bag. Why do I have three open bags of spinach in there?!?!

The dc are exhausted. Not Suprisingly when they had late nights and super early mornings. Dd has gone for a nap. Bit of a tantrum protest which came to an abrupt end when she conked out. Ds is curled up on the couch with a blanket zoning out to tv. Hence why I can do a freezer reset.

Have also done a kitchen refil.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 23/05/2021 14:26

emenem I need to do a freezer cull. They are full of stuff but no idea what's in there! Written my meal plan based on whats in the fridge that needs using and some of the many tins for this coming week.

Will sort out freezer for the next weeks meals and plan using them. My mum is having my girls for 2 nights and dh is working so looking forward to some much needed alone and me time! I can be so productive then.

I got a bit excited at having the monthly delivery saver with tesco and have had a weekly shop rather than my go when we need it I was doing.

SingToTheSky · 23/05/2021 15:47

Not spent much the last few days. Focused on cleaning! I need to declutter a lot more.

I’m itching to buy some plants though (indoor only). Is there anywhere good to do this online if I can’t get to the garden centre?

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 23/05/2021 16:24

I’d like to hop back on if that’s ok. I’ve been reading about you all regularly. I have been appreciating life getting back to normal. My partner had Covid rather badly but thankfully came home and is back at work now. He’s now type two diabetic, unfortunately due to his steroid treatment, so we are doing the low carb thing too. I’ve been cooking from scratch more than ever which does prove to be economical, and doing lots of batch cooking.

SnugglySnerd · 23/05/2021 16:28

Welcome back returners!

So much for catching up properly over the weekend, it's been busier than ever! I am so tired. Didn't sleep very well last night, went to bed late anyway then woke up several times with a lot on my mind. Counting down the days until half term now.

Tayto that is really awful about all the medical records. What are the government doing about it?
