Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

£130 farmstore on pet stuff
£19 Waterstones, £46 new look and £35 primary.

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts I’ve been watching Jordan page on YouTube. She talks about shelf cooking. Which essentially is shopping the pantry fridge freezer before shopping.

Djnner done. Now have to battle the dc into the bath.

Taytocrisps · 23/05/2021 21:31

Sorry I'm so late replying to you all. Busy day.

The government are saying they won't pay the ransom. If they did pay it, there's no guarantee the hackers wouldn't release the information anyway/sell it on. And paying the hackers would probably lead to further ransomware attacks because it would send out the message that cybercrime pays. I think I heard at some stage that it's a Russian criminal gang that's behind this particular attack. There's more information in this article if anyone wants to read more www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/cyberattack-high-risk-stolen-patient-data-may-be-released-tomorrow-hse-chief-says-1.4572784

In other news, we had a nice visit with ex-SIL and her partner. They've renovated an old house so they showed us the work they've done in the house. They've a fair bit of land so they're planting lots of fruit and vegetables and walnut trees etc. They're hoping that eventually they can give up their day jobs and have a small farm/market garden enterprise. It won't happen overnight though. We sat in their hay shed which is open on two sides. It was warm at first because the sun was out but it got chilly after a while, even though I had two fleecy tops on.

When we got home, my Dad and sister called in and we had tea and biscuits etc. They're both vaccinated. It was a nice day and it was so good to socialize with people again, even if it did involve sitting in a hay barn Grin.

Just having a cuppa and then I'm going to empty the dishwasher and hang up my washing. Monday tomorrow Sad. Why do weekends go so quick?

AmberIsACertainty · 23/05/2021 23:46

Tayto that's terrible about the ransom, hope HSE can sort the situation out.

So lovely you're able to stay friends with ex-SIL, enjoy your meet-up.

Born glad you're feeling better.

Olive and Gen hope your respective lunches weren't too stressful.

Nocuts you sound like me. See it, want it, buy it. Good luck with the new frugal journey.

Well done on jumping the triple Em and lol at your DC dancing.

Life oooh puppy excitement! Will there be pics? 🐾

Well done with the cleaning Sing. Do you know what plants you want to get yet?

Sorry about your DP illness Duchess hope low carbs makes a difference.

I've had a great day. Rushed like mad to get the cleaning done then off to a market town for the afternoon. Wandered around ancient buildings in the drizzle, fed the birds on the canal, got photos of some sculptures. £7.20 on a chippy tea. Soaking in the bath now, tired but happy.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/05/2021 07:12

Well where did those 2 days go.
Yes there will be pics when we get him next week.
Pleased people are seeing each other too.
Welcome back returners

ememem84 · 24/05/2021 07:45

I’m still In bed. It’s Monday. And I am not at work until 7 June. Wahooo!!!

Going to cafe for breakfast with dparents and dparents friend this morning with the dc. It’s at garden centre so might have a mooch but am thinking I want to get some orchid compost to repot mine.

Have a couple of bags for Dfriend too as her daughters just had a baby and I’ve found some of dds baby baby things which were lurking in a box. Bibs a sun hat. And also some kids hangers. So I’ll offer them. And if she doesn’t want I’ll charity shop.

Mrsmadevans · 24/05/2021 09:10

Hoping for a NS day today but we shall see 😊

oliveroses · 24/05/2021 11:13

Em, enjoy your holiday!

I have promised myself a visit to a cafe this afternoon so looking forward to that. I hope they have chelsea buns or similar.

My BFF and sister both have planned c sections this week! Two little boys. Very excited. What is a good present for parents who already have babies?x

ememem84 · 24/05/2021 11:27

Bacon and egg roll at cafe. Ds insisted on going as a crocodile. 😂

Off to charity shop in a bit. Have a bag to drop off and want to see if I can find a copy of the enormous crocodile for ds. If I can’t find one I’m in town tomorrow so will get a new one.

SnugglySnerd · 24/05/2021 19:53

Love the crocodile outfit!

Have just totalled up 4 weeks' worth of grocery bills and it came to just over £550. Does that seem like a lot?
It also includes things like dishwasher tablets, loo roll and washing powder, as we get those with our food shopping and it is from a mixture of supermarkets, mainly Lidl and Tesco, plus 1 Sainsbury's shop and 1 at Aldi. Only one visit to the garage for chocolate in the evening though so that's good!
I know the weekly shopping used to cost less but prices have gone up and also dh used to quite often buy lunch out but now he's wfh we buy more lunch stuff with the shopping. Probably spending less on his lunch than he used to!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 24/05/2021 19:53

Tesco delivery came today so £41, had to buy toilet roll and wash powder. Have lots of bits in the fridge and cupboards though so this was just stuff to make meals/lunches with what we have.

Trying to resist buying a takeaway tonight for me and dh, we've both had a long day and really can't be bothered to cook. The delivery has only just turned up too. So maybe £20 on a takeaway fir us 🙈

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/05/2021 20:30

I think that's about what I spend snug but I don't talk much care at the moment

Lovemaltesers · 24/05/2021 22:07

Welcome back the returners to the thread.

Sorry to hear about your partner duchess

Been a tough couple of days, DParent related, finished off by having a gas leak at home tonight. DH couldn’t smell gas due to leftover symptom of covid, so I kept saying I could smell a bit of gas after some work around the boiler a week ago. Emergency gas people were out in an hour and fixed it too. Hoorah!

SnugglySnerd · 24/05/2021 22:17

Oh no, Love, nightmare! Glad it's sorted.

marthasmum · 24/05/2021 22:43

snuggly I am aiming for £650 a month for 5 of us, a cat and dog. My DC are older than yours I think plus I know I am extravagant on some things (eg using butcher and milkman). So I think £550 for 5 of you is probably the cheapest you could do it.
love gas leak sounds a nightmare, glad it’s sorted

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 25/05/2021 04:19

Thanks for the kind words about DP, Amber and Lovemalteasers. He’s getting well, back at work, driving etc. The low carbs diet seems to suit him, he says he’s got over feeling so ravenous now, he seemed perpetually hungry when he came home from hospital. I’ve been making my own soups, celeriac and carrot and swede mashes to use instead of potato, and my own coleslaw. Shop bought versions just too sugary and carby, We make an honourable exception for diabetic friendly ice cream, which thankfully we can buy at Tesco. My sister has been wonderful and made cake sweetened with date purée and with wholemeal flour. Sounds depressingly worthy but actually very nice, akin to a teabread.
I’ve enjoyed a winning streak with yellow stickers in Marks, peaches, strawbs and kiwis. I can feel a smoothie coming on, perhaps to take to work later. I’d hoped for a gentle start to the week yesterday but got stuck staying late with some training over zoom.

ememem84 · 25/05/2021 06:59

snuggly the lady I’ve been obsessed withfollowing on insta and youtube advises usd100 per person jn the house per month for groceries. Only shopping once a week no matter what. Makes sense to me.

Although I’m wondering do we do the gbp equivalent. Or just stick to gbp100 pp pcm.

SnugglySnerd · 25/05/2021 07:03

This is reassuring about our shopping. We use the butcher and milkman too although I am veggie so we don't buy much meat. Also I will only buy organic eggs because of welfare and I'm trying to buy organic dairy too which is obviously a bit more.
We can't manage only 1 shop a week though. We eat a lot of fresh fruit and veg and can't store a week's worth!

ememem84 · 25/05/2021 07:21

That’s our issue too snug we have the worlds smallest fridge. Which is so annoying.

Literally cannot wait until we get our new fridge when we get our new kitchen.

Mine is mostly chock full of milk at present. I’m trying the one shop per week no matter what. 7 litres or milk. Usually wouldn’t be this much but Dh is eating weetabix again and uses about half a litre each breakfast and Dd still likes a bottle of milk at bedtime and first thing.

ememem84 · 25/05/2021 10:05

Sorted out our phone bill. Total saving of £14.75 per month by bundling everything. We now have an unlimited data calls texts minutes for £5 more pcm than my old one by adding Dh as a user. But no more going over. Plus a saving on our broadband and landline. Win.

Bornlazy · 25/05/2021 10:28

Duchess that must have been a really frightening time for you with your dh. Glad he's mostly better now.

Snuggly I think that sounds about right. Food is so much more expensive now.

I really want a big fridge when I get my kitchen done. Mines is an under the counter one and crap. It's like playing Jenga trying to fit everything into it .

Love sorry to hear about your stressful time.

2 days till payday. Nsd yesterday.

Gensola · 25/05/2021 11:47

em I think the cost of living is a lot lower in many places in America so 100 dollars would probably get you more there than the equivalent here.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself as there are only two of us and a cat and I can’t seem to get it lower than £450 a month. This does include cat food, cleaning products and some toiletries though.

We are doing an IVF healthy eating and no chemicals thing which involves buying organic where possible and eco cleaning stuff which is £££. Who knows if it even makes a difference but it makes us feel like we are doing something.
I have saved a lot going back to work as I get lunch there and I don’t constantly go to the fridge for snacks so we are buying far less food, maybe I’ll see the bills come down a bit.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 25/05/2021 12:23

Thank you, Born, yes it was not an experience we’d like to repeat. There were two days when I didn’t know how things were going to go. That’s the worst of being a nurse, sometimes you know a bit too much for comfort. Communication was hard as his mobile signal was poor, and anything from home he needed, I posted to him once I was allowed out myself.

Mrsmadevans · 25/05/2021 12:42
