If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

720 cases here. That escalated quickly.

Had my test though and am now paranoid it’ll be positive which will mean a bunch of isolation and alone time….oh wait……!

Dh made kedgeree for dinner. Nope. Bloody gross. We’re not having that again. Ick.

Happierwithouthim · 07/07/2021 18:59

Em what will be will be at this stage

Happierwithouthim · 07/07/2021 19:03

Washing machine repair guy came, waiting two months for him, I've moved house in the meantime!

€150 to fix it, but equivalent machine new is €700, so I'm repairing now but won't be doing another big repair, must start a sinking fund for new washing machine.

Saw a theory online save 1% of value of your house annually for repair & maintenance have any of you done this?

Childcare this week costing €390, just over half my wages, luckily I'm only paying childcare for three weeks this summer

Oh and I need tyres, all of this is budgeted for except washing machine. I'm going to use some savings because I've a few more expenses lined up to pay for, for house.

Wolfcub · 07/07/2021 19:30

Happier I save £1400 a year for household emergencies. That's as much as I can afford but it's not far under 1%

HumbugWhale · 07/07/2021 19:53

I have a savings account for household emergencies (although nowhere near 1% of house value!) I am always highly irritated if I have to spend it on an actual emergency because it feels so boring to spend money on a new washing machine or whatever!
We badly need a new bed. Ours in ancient and wonky and so uncomfortable. We have saved enough to buy a new one. I am wondering whether to just buy one or whether to buy it on 0% interest for a year and earn a tiny bit of interest on the savings.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/07/2021 21:23

I don’t have savings pots but always have a pot of savings I won’t touch unless really needed
Get the 0% imo

Happierwithouthim · 08/07/2021 06:25

Humbug I'd get the 0% and leave your savings where they are.

Thanks for replies, I do have emergency fund saved of €1500 but want to leave that alone. I've savings in credit union for when I moved house so I'm taking €1500 from that as there is a few upcoming things to be paid for. I'm going to double the standing order to that from next Friday to €100, I want to save for deposit on new car, but having not had savings before I'm slow to spend them even though this was what they were for.

Anyone heard from girlie lately?

Happierwithouthim · 08/07/2021 06:29

Got my roster for July from ex so next week of childcare will cost €325 which is only 2 weeks away, I normally budget €130 per week towards it so will have to increase this for next two weeks but won't have childcare bill after that for 5 weeks so it'll balance out.

ememem84 · 08/07/2021 07:11

I think we probably have around 1% of the value of our mortgage saved up. Not the value of our house….

humbug I’d go for the 0%. Also if storage is an issue get an ottoman bed. Best thing we ever did. That and the tempur matress. Oh the comfort.

ememem84 · 08/07/2021 07:12

Test results are in. NEGATIVE wahoooooll!!!! This means back to work next week. Whoooooop

ememem84 · 08/07/2021 07:38

Also need to sort out some admin today.

Pay nursery
Email kitchen guy
Email window guy
Planning for window

Taking kids swimming tomorrow. Need to get Dd some floaties. So might take a lunchtime trip to sports direct. Probably cheaper there than actually at the pool.

Happierwithouthim · 08/07/2021 08:05

Wolfcub · 08/07/2021 08:45

Excellent Em

ememem84 · 08/07/2021 08:56

also have to do an expenses reclaim for phone calls i' ve made this year from my phone for work. i hadn't thought about it until a couple of weeks ago when i was on a call to Israel for an hour. usually clients etc call via whatsapp so that's free, and if i'm calling someone locally its just on my free minutes.

have one from January to reclaim too. but was waiting for last months bill to come in - because i forgot about the january one. . . . so will do them both today.

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2021 10:11

Great news on negative test

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2021 10:12

I think I’m going to book an admin day off. Toying with stocking up for the kids food for summer but now we might be moving end of the month. Who knows though we have been here twice before

ememem84 · 08/07/2021 10:59

I hate having to book days off just to get admin done. but sometimes it's necessary.

i've smashed through 45 emails this morning so far. either replying or filing. or reallocating. feeling productive.

Wolfcub · 08/07/2021 11:06

An admin day off would be great. I've done lots of make change stuff already but there are some government paperwork things that need time and a pen to sort out. Plus it would be good to get on top of the house which is a tip since the puppy arrived

Yay to potential new house move date Life that's great. Fingers crossed it works out

ememem84 · 08/07/2021 13:19

we're going tomorrow. this will be fun

MeadowHay · 08/07/2021 17:13

Hellooo, sorry for being quiet for ages again, hope everyone's ok.

Spent £5.75 on a fancy salad for my lunch today but I was having a scary job interview late PM that I've been working really hard for so it was my confidence-boosting treat. It's my fave salad from a local cafe - avocado, sweet potato, salad leaves, pumpkin seeds, beetroot. Sooo nice.

We have loads of life admin stuff to sort out atm too because and it just doesn't get done, but now my sickness is mostly gone and it's only like 3 months or so until this baby is here we really need to crack on ASAP. The most urgent are tax credits renewal and 30 hrs nursery funding as both need to be done by the end of this month.

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2021 18:00

Hey meadow. Good to see you and pleased the sickness has abated

SingToTheSky · 08/07/2021 19:49

Hi meadow :) aah not too long for baby now!

Em that’s amazing re the dinner! Wow!

I’ve had a spendy week - had to get some smart clothes for interview, I’ve been living in jeggings and trainers for years 😳 so I got two pairs of black trousers, and a basic handbag. I’m sending the shoes back as I didn’t need them in the end (had to move my interview to zoom as we were isolating) and they didn’t fit that well so I have time to get better ones.

Didn’t get the job sadly but the interview did go really well - I got great feedback. They went with someone who is doing that role already - I got the impression that otherwise I’d have had a high chance of being offered it.

Got a phone appt with NCS tomorrow to go over my CV etc, then I will make a plan as to where else to look for similar roles and probably more relevant volunteering.

marthasmum · 08/07/2021 21:49

sing I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t get the role as it sounds you’re more than capable. It’s great that you’re taking such a proactive attitude though and it sounds like you’re well on your way to the workplace. Fingers crossed for the next one!
meadow glad you are feeling better and v exciting about the new baby Smile
