If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

Oh Em that sounds really frustrating.
Humbug hope you're managing a relaxing weekend
Mrs sounds like you've been busy. Lovely that your mum has been enjoying getting plants for the garden
Unescorted yay to the tax money, but boo to the isolation

We drove back from Devon on Friday having had a good week away. It was tricky balancing the family visit side of it with it also being our holiday. We said family goodbyes on Wednesday night after a lovely meal out which was our Christmas present for everyone. This meant we could have a proper holiday day on Thursday, just the 4 of us. The weather was great for it so it was well worth it.
Holiday spending was high but budgeted for. Since we've been back I've updated the spreadsheet and it seems we overspent a bit in June (pre holiday) so def need to be more careful in July.

Had an email from elec/gas supplier saying prices going up by 25% soon. Dh has also been given similar info by the cricket club supplier. With food prices going up too, I think it's going to be a tough time ahead.

Happierwithouthim · 04/07/2021 09:07

Em how frustrating for you, I guess your island had been so low in numbers all through the pandemic that they're overwhelmed now.
When I got vaccinated I was intrigued not to recognise one person at the centre of either staff or attendees where did all these people come from? What work were they doing prior to the pandemic?

north hope you enjoyed your holiday

Unescorted sounds like you've both settled into isolation quite well.

Life afternoon tea sounds lovely, I just saw a pr stay on Instagram of hotel we're staying in in august and they're now serving afternoon tea & their outdoor dining looks just amazing.

€20.50 on a basketball hoop from Amazon
€105.50 on IKEA order, my dressing table shelf, some batch cooking containers, frames, bag sealing clips & freezer bags of every size. I intend to go there in next few months but want to get my own furniture into house first.

Still debating brand new tv vs 13 year old non smart tv up onto wall.

Wolfcub · 04/07/2021 09:11

Really frustrating Em. I wasn't bothered about bringing my second stabby jabby forward but we've had so many positive here I'm going for it this afternoon. I really don't want to go to Tatton Park in a few weeks and not be fully protected

Wolfcub · 04/07/2021 09:11

Ps. Also spending a sodding fortune on dog stuff

Wolfcub · 04/07/2021 09:26

North I got the same email. I'm waiting to see what Martin Lewis says before deciding whether to switch again

HumbugWhale · 04/07/2021 11:13

Yes very quiet weekend thanks. I have cleared out the loft but otherwise pottered about with the dcs and watched the footie.

Happierwithouthim · 04/07/2021 12:39

Took dc out for breakfast €18 for bubble waffles with toppings for 3, they weren't impressed(secretly pleased as they won't look to go there again) €11.20 at shop for drinks and some pocket money spends & €1 for food to feed ducks 🦆

Rest of day will be unpacking & moving in furniture

Mrsmadevans · 04/07/2021 13:06

Afternoon everyone, weather is terrible here , washing in the damn tumble again Hmm
I never thought l would say this but l am missing the footie Shock

Called helpline again. Took three attempts. But finally got through.

The lady I spoke to has escalated me and someone should call me back by 8pm tomorrow. I asked to have a test booked as an indirect contact. She said I’d have to wait for next available slot which is Thursday am.

I now have a “Sophie’s choice” type dilemma. If I continue isolating as I am Then once I get called I can use my current isolation time to reduce my sentence effectively. They won’t start me from zero.

However if I leave the house now. I’ll have to do a further 10 days. This is because I’m legally not required to isolate right now.

Wwyd?

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/07/2021 14:02

I would suffer now rather than have my 10 days start again

Wolfcub · 04/07/2021 14:12

I agree with Life. Plus if you are infectious those are days when you could be passing it on to others

ememem84 · 04/07/2021 14:41

Confirmed my thoughts. Dh thinks I should escape now.

Happierwithouthim · 04/07/2021 16:10

I'd stay put em

Happierwithouthim · 04/07/2021 16:10

Short term pain for long term gain

HumbugWhale · 04/07/2021 16:22

Stay put Em!

ememem84 · 04/07/2021 17:27

I’m staying put. I’m in bed as am not actually feeling too great now. Ffs.

Press conference this evening and apprently changes are being made to the contact tracing service. No idea what they are. We shall see.

Unescorted · 04/07/2021 17:38

Stay put em - it isn't so much as what the Twitter / rules / guidance/ random MP bolloxing it all up again says, but what is morally right. If you are +ve you will be spreading it about. Having or not having a test doesn't change that. DD & I are staying put even though we aren't symptomatic and all out LFTs are coming back -ve. I can work form home, DD is more productive and the wine rack is still full. There are other people that would have no income, little food and difficulties paying the rent if they got pinged because they came into contact with us and we tested +ve. I wouldn't want to inflict that on someone if I had the choice.

Unescorted if only more people thought like you we mightn't be in such a mess!

Mrsmadevans · 04/07/2021 18:51

Em hope you are ok sweetie 💐
Unescorted the girl done good you are so thoughtful 💐

Unescorted · 04/07/2021 19:14

em I hope you are OK and it is just a common and garden feeling a bit blergh.

It isn't thoughtful - it is recognising that we are the lucky ones in this awful mess. Having one of the people I love most in the world all to myself, employer who is totally fine with me working from home, private outside space and friends and family who will drop off anything we need (including mojito ingredients in case it gets warm.... thanks bro). It really is no hardship for us. Although panic nearly set in when I realised just now that we are down to the last tin of Brexit beans.....

Send for emergency supplies pronto! Grin

Mrsmadevans · 04/07/2021 19:28

Tayto we binge watched ''Sophie: A Murder in West Cork'
Thank you for the heads up Smile , we all found it very intriguing and are still divided in our verdicts Hmm
However isn't it beautiful there , that house was just gorgeous, the views the sea, all just beautiful. Made us want to visit West Cork some day Smile

ememem84 · 04/07/2021 21:06

Update. Im free!!! Government changed the rules.

Direct contacts of positive cases only have to isolate if they develop symptoms. Still have to be tested whenever though. So no more isolation for me.

Yoppeeeee

Happierwithouthim · 04/07/2021 23:34

Mrsmadevans I'm in conversation with a family in west cork about doing a house swap! About 30 mins from schull. Just answered a post on Instagram.

€140 approx in Aldi got a garden hose, candle, toys, doormat in addition to grocery shop Grin all stuff I needed to get, well toys will come out of pocket money. 5 packs of fondant fancies with 75% off, this will serve any visitors who come to see the place. Also got two carbonara sauce with 75% off that's gone straight into freezer.

Super 6 had frozen chips for 49c so we tried a bag and they're perfect so I'll stock up on them. Also maple syrup was on it down to €1.99 from €3.79.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/07/2021 06:55

Great news em
Love the middle aisle of Aldi.
