If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

We were promised a heatwave this weekend and while it's been warm, it's mainly been humid and very cloudy. It's raining atm. If I wasn't going away tomorrow, I'd be feeling really cheated. I'm sure lots of people bought barbecue stuff or planned day trips. Anyway, I'm on holidays now and really looking forward to a few days away. Hoping for some sun and anticipating a cocktail or two and to have my food handed up to me. DD is with Ex this weekend but I was talking to her last night and she's really excited about our road trip. It was lovely to hear the excitement in her voice after such a shitty time of it since we went into lockdown in March 2020..

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/06/2021 13:29

I get ya on pack light for a small trip
£33 refund at farm store

marthasmum · 13/06/2021 16:38

I'm mentally egging on all those thinking of a new pet. We are sensibly done with a cat and a dog (recently lost the last of our guinea pigs) but if it weren't for DPs stabilising influence I'd have several more cute furry things. And babies.
Hi girlie you won't know me as I'm quite new to the thread, but just wanted to wish you well with your DD. We have just been through CAMHS with our DD (17), it is very hard when you are in the thick of it.
Beach day sounds lovely em. I've bought my DD and her friend to local bike trail which has involved me sitting in the sun - nice way to spend a Sunday.
north hope the quilting is soothing and tayto hope you have a lovely break.

Mrsmadevans · 13/06/2021 20:15

Sorry I have been missing most of the weekend. It has been a low spend get the garden in order type of one.

Now I have cleared the weeds, and the shed is gone it is looking much better than I thought it was. The roses I got for my birthday last year are looking amazing. We are going to be loads of blooms.

Sounds lovely at the beach em

Tayto we live in an area that rains when everyone else has sunny weather.... I feel you pain.

It’s been a nice weekend and for once, no Sunday night feeling as I’m off .tomorrow. Yesterday we went for a picnic with my sister to a NT garden and spent the afternoon in the shade with a view of the lake. Costco on the way home for fruit, mineral waters and soft drinks, much cheaper than buying them out. Tesco today, yellow stickered meat bargains so did some batch cooking this afternoon. Made an aubergine bake for dinner with a many veg and tomato sauce, meat and buffalo mozzarella. DP gave it the paw print of approval and had a second helping.
Puss is sulking. She had a sticky patch on her back above her tail, goodness knows from what. She wouldn’t let us brush or wash it out so DP gently snipped it out with scissors. She’s retired into the rocking chair with a cross cat face. She furthermore declines to eat the Duck variety of Sheba, gala dinner for the Cats Protection mogs coming up.
Tomorrow will be another day around the doors. Picnic tea at the seaside in the evening. I’ve bought some wholemeal flour to make things for DP, so may try some fruit scones.

MrsMadEvans, what a lovely thing to happen to the two kittens and their mummy cat!

MrsMadEvans, what a lovely thing to happen to the two kittens and their mummy cat!
I know isn't it wonderful . Her husband is a real softy , a lovely man , they were upset about leaving the Mummy cat there and he told them they could have her as well. Smile
AmberIsACertainty · 14/06/2021 02:10

Sing I went to an animal shelter and all the cats came upto the glass and put their paw on it like a high five or sneaked half their paw through the tiny gap underneath because they wanted to touch me. Some tried to rub their faces on me through the glass. Heartbreaking. 😿

ememem84 · 14/06/2021 06:28

When we went to see catface she hissed at me and tried to bite me. She’s been dumped in a local park with the rest of her litter when she was around 6m old. We first met when she was 18m. She’ll be 6 this year.

She’s gone from scared bitey hissy cat who hid behind a chair to a softy lap cat who won’t be apart from me. Currently tucked under my arm in bed with me.

Unescorted · 14/06/2021 07:50

I am loving the cat talk.... especially the triple adoption Mrs. Em the trauma you had with catface living under the furniture. I am not going to lie at the time I gave you a couple of weeks before she went back to Cat Borstal.

Another week - it is so good to be looking forward to work again.

Has anyone been watching Cook Clever, Waste Less With Prue & Rupy on C4 (8:30 Monday nights)? I have only just seen it is a thing. Apparently there has been a whole series.

Is it any good unescorted?

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 14/06/2021 10:35

I had a look at an episode, Unescorted. Prue made orange granita from leftover fizzy pop!

marthasmum · 14/06/2021 11:12

I’ll look as we love eat well for less. There’s never any leftover fizzy pop in my house though!

News on Dh he has had Campylobacter , no wonder he was so ill poor thing. He is much better so the Dr didn't want to give him Antibiotics today , Environmental health rang as well trying to pin it down to where it was from. In the end she thinks it might be from stagnant water in the garden or a dog we played with but there is no telling really. I am fine as are the Dds Smile
NSD for me today or am l fibbing yes l am, petrol 60 !
Hope everyone is fine and enjoying this wonderful weather Smile

marthasmum · 14/06/2021 19:16

Oh no mrs your poor DH. He deserves the DGOD for as long as he likes. Hope he is better soon.

Unescorted · 14/06/2021 19:34

That is a definite DGOD without a side order of eye rolling. Hope he gets better soon.

I am missing my not so lil baby girl. I cannot wait until the end of term.

Mrsmadevans · 14/06/2021 20:28

Unescorted it won't be long now you will have her back. I know how you feel , my Dd2 is gradually moving out bit by bit Sad it has to be done though l know Smile

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/06/2021 21:06

£50 school meals, £15 school photos.

That totally deserves the dgod.
Looks like D's end of school party will now be cancelled.
Ah she will be back soon unescorted

ememem84 · 14/06/2021 21:40

unescorted to be perfectly honest I was close to giving up on catface at the time. Especially when she pooped on the couch. 😂 so glad I didn’t and persevered with her. Worth it. She brings a sense of calm to the house and helps with my anxiety. Dh has said before he’s not sure who needs the other more. Me or her.

I sleep better when shes snuggled next to me. So no need for weighted blanket.

Drama here today. Ds Dd and I are currently in various beds at dparents. Dh was contact traced. And has to isolate. We don’t.

Our options were:
A) I move my stuff into dds room sleep on the air bed abd Dh stays locked in our room until Sunday and I bring him food and drinks and deal with the kids myself.
B) we all isolate together and one of us takes unpaid leave to do the childcare whilst the other works
C) Dh has free rein of the house and me and the dc move out temporarily.

We chose option c. As dparents will be on hand to help with the kids so I’m not on my own. And also selfishly I’ll get looked after a bit too.

Work have told me not to come in so I’m
Working from garden tomorrow. I don’t have to isolate according to the test and trace people. Only if Dh has a positive test. But he’s had one negative so far. And wasn’t even in contact with the two people from his work. Ffs.

On the plus side bed to myself. On the downside my room at dparents is boiling. And I don’t have catface for company.

Unescorted · 14/06/2021 22:21

Em that is disruptive. In the circumstances I would have chosen option c too. DD had to isolate last week - her friends and the college porters made daily drop offs of food and wine. She watched Netflix, painted / drew and spent hours on virtual gatherings via Teams. She came to dinner with us (we propped her on the table) and her friends took her to the pub on their tablets / phones. She was not in pain. I am sure your dh can fill his isolation with out you having to mop his fevered brow.

OP posts:
ememem84 · 15/06/2021 06:38

So disruptive. 2 postits cases and 58 households are affected because his work have names of everyone who was in between certain dates. Dh doesn’t even know one of the people who is positive never spoken to them wouldn’t be able to pick them out of a line up. Sigh.

Just woken up. Quiet house. I think Dd is downstairs with Dm and ddad as they’re not in their room. Ds is conked out in my old old room (moved to a bigger one when I came home from uni).

Bornlazy · 15/06/2021 09:57

Morning everyone. Just caught up with everyone's news.

Life puppy is adorable. Any money spent on him is money well spent.

north sorry you've been feeling anxious I hope the quilting has helped. It's such a stressful time and lots of our usual support systems have been removed. I feel I have a little ball of anxiety in the pit of my stomach that reminds me even when I'm having a nice time that things aren't quite right.

Girlie glad your dd is getting a bit better it must be very hard going.

Mrs your poor dh. Hope he's back to normal soon.

All the direct debit chat has made me realise that I spent a fortune on tv subscriptions, phone contracts and internet. It's offset slightly by the fact that we don't go out much, especially not at the moment, but really need to look at it soon.

Loving the pet stories. I have 3 rescue cats all roughly the same age (5 this year) and they were all kittens when I got them from 3 separate rescue centres. We traveled from Glasgow to Carlisle for one of them, as we fell in love with the description of him. We actually had to go twice, once to be vetted, and then to collect him but he was totally worth it.

em that's a shame that dh has to isolate especially as he wasn't actually in close contact with either of them. I think I'd have went with option (A) but a less strict version if I knew he was a very low risk of being exposed to it. I couldn't have coped with living with my dm as any help would come with the price tag of having her criticise almost everything i did.
