If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

em ooh what did you have done?

wolf Flowers so sorry to hear what a rough time you are having. Have a large wine? Maybe better than running through town with knickers on head Grin

marthas latte in car footwell sounds potentially very stinky😱

We are going for dinner out tonight, it’s my first time out since surgery so feeling nervous but also looking forward and didn’t want to cancel it as DH hadn’t had a treat in half term yet as I’ve been working. We are using vouchers gifted by a friend a while ago so hoping not to spend much if any actual cash.

Mrsmadevans · 04/06/2021 16:45

@AmberIsACertainty

OMG Mrs are you preparing for Christmas already Shock

Fingers crossed for no side effects Unescorted

Glad you enjoyed lunch with sis Em

Martha river swimming sounds fab. I keep eyeing up the local river but it's a bit too shallow, probably a bit too fast current and far too cold here at the moment. I settled for taking a walk beside it tonight.

I must confess yes l am Amber have bought a few Christmas Wax Lyrical diffusers and candles Grin I really like Wax Lyrical they are very good quality Smile

Sing I have also been topping up DC's clothes now the weather has turned warm. Mainly summer pjs and shorts. I got a good bundle on Ebay for ds but it hasn't arrived yet.

Ds got up at 5.30. I have to admit I have put the TV on for him and have come back to lie on the bed. I have thw door open so can hear what he is up to. It is just too early!

ememem84 · 05/06/2021 06:50

gen balayage and a semi perm toner in “camel blonde” and a trim.

Riding today. £35. Then taking ds on a play date. Weather looks nice so it’ll be shorts on for that!

Currently up with dd watching teletubbies. Thank god for CBeebies.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/06/2021 06:57

Usual family stuff today. Might get to park aerobic. Viewing a house today too

northender · 05/06/2021 07:04

Just been reading an interesting thread in Money Matters on the "keeping up with the joneses" culture, fuelled by social media and advertising. I feel really passionate about it and have talked so much to the dc about managing money, over the years, I hope they take at least some of it on board.

SnugglySnerd · 05/06/2021 07:26

Ugh. Disturbed again by dd1 at 6.10 who had wet the bed so had to strip it and put washing machine on. Not a good start to today. Dh has brought me a cup of tea.

Gensola · 05/06/2021 08:21

em sounds beautiful! I have given up on balayage and gone back to box dies as I just can’t afford it atm Grin

snuggly argh that’s not what you want on a Sat morning.

I am having my eyebrows, upper lip and chin threaded this morning, and a facial. Can’t wait!

northender · 05/06/2021 08:24

Oh snuggly hope your day gets better
Park aerobics sounds good life. I dragged myself up to do a 7am HIIT class yesterday & now ache everywhere! It was good though
Going out with friends for dinner tonight. Really looking forward to it, but it's not going to help my attempted reining in of the budget...
On the other hand, had a strange cash boost in the post yesterday. Dd had some science tutoring which we budgeted for. Long story, but it was done by a friend's mum. Said dear friend died a few years ago & her mum basically refunded the tuition money and sent a lovely letter with it which made me sob. It would've been friend's 50th this month so we have agreed to go out for lunch, my treat. Had quite a subdued, reflective evening after that.

ememem84 · 05/06/2021 08:29

Busy morning here. Emptied dishwasher. Two loads of washing. Emptied and cleaned catface’s litter box. Read books with dd. Ds now downstairs with us. Dh still asleep.

This is day….15 I think where I’ve been up early with the kids. And it’s taking it’s toll. Dh said yesterday he’s annoyed I’m going to bed so early (9/930) and we don’t spent any time together. That’s because I’m up for the day at 6 with the kids…/!!! And I don’t stop…!!

We don’t all have a wife who gets up with the kids so we can lie in bed.

ememem84 · 05/06/2021 08:33

@northender I read that thread. Made for interesting reading.

northender · 05/06/2021 08:54

Oh Em he doesn't get it does he?
Yes it's an interesting thread & makes me glad I'm a bit of an old gimmer and wasn't on social media when we had a young family. I see it now, with younger friends, everyone so focused on "making memories" and sharing them with everyone, broadcasting their purportedly perfect lives.

ememem84 · 05/06/2021 09:54

Nope he doesn’t. I went up and woke him up at 845 so I could shower.

He’s now “in the shower” code for sitting in the bathroom on his phone for an hour. Hmm

I’ve worked out the easiest thing to do is to just carry on. I’ve said I’m looking forward to my lie in tomorrow. He asked whether I was going to use my “voucher” (the dc bought me some “mummy time out” vouchers for things like lie ins breakfast in bed cups of tea etc). I laughed and said no. We get one lie in each a weekend.

I do wonder if he stays in bed because I have time out for Pilates once a week and Horseys once a week.

It was funny yesterday though. I have Fridays off and wasn’t taking him to work like I usually do as my gym session wasn’t on. So he was getting the bus. Bus is at 8.09. He got out of bed at 750. It’s a miracle he made the bus if I’m honest.

I didn’t wake him up or set an alarm. And purposely hadn’t got showered or dressed or the dc dressed so he could get ready. If he’d missed the bus he would have been late because of the time it’d take me to get ready.

ememem84 · 05/06/2021 09:55

I also don’t subscribe to the “making memories” on social media.

I do post. But am more of a “fml toddlers” poster. Or just post pics of my food.

I have an acquaintance from school who constantly posts about making memories with her dcs. A constant stream of perfect photos with immaculate children in floaty dresses holding hands in a meadow, skipping daintily through the woods etc. I'm sure they would have better memories if they were allowed to play in the woods and get their clothes dirty without constantly having to smile for mummy's camera! Grin
ememem84 · 05/06/2021 10:37

The pics of my two are of them muddy sticky and “living their best lives!” Haha.

I’m a subscriber to the “clothes can be washed and it’s good for the kids to be outside and getting dirty (within reason)” school of parenting.

When I was a kid we used to go to france every summer to dparents place and we’re essentially allowed to go a bit feral. No shoes. Just running about.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/06/2021 11:35

I also subscribe to ferel child rearing. Clothes and people wash.

SingToTheSky · 05/06/2021 12:15

Sounds like a really interesting thread. DD1 is definitely more aware of trends etc but thankfully isn’t too bothered about brand names etc. She is more likely to want random Japanese/Korean fashion cheap from Aliexpress etc. Basically we get her bog standard clothes she needs like tops and skirts etc but if she wants something very specific and not “necessary” then she uses her pocket money which helps her appreciate that fashion comes at a price.

Em I would stick that mummy voucher book somewhere painful if DH suggested using one for a lie in you’re supposed to get anyway! I hope you can get some rest. Yes you get your horsey/Pilates time but getting up that early with little ones every bloody day is SO draining! 💐

SingToTheSky · 05/06/2021 12:16

Re feral mucky kids - I saw a nice poster at Cagletini’s nursery - drawing of a grubby, stain covered child with labels eg “this grass stain means I’ve had fun in the fresh air” “this paint splatter means I’ve been creative” etc.

marthasmum · 05/06/2021 13:39

em me too on the mucky kids thing - when they were small I used to feel that muddy kids meant a good day out and tbh not much has changed now they’re teenagers!
I read the keeping up with the joneses thread too...I like to think we’re not too bad after being skint for years but it’s easy to be sucked into it still. For me it’s feeling that I ought to be taking the kids abroad, which we never have done. Am saving for it now but tbh the whole thing makes me feel a bit conflicted and anxious, it’s such a lot of money to spend.
sing sounds a good plan with the clothes. My DD (17) was into labels as a younger teen but has recently been embraced 2nd hand/ vintage, hurray! She is at pride today and I am feeling proud 🥲
mrs I’d love your DH for the car. Have scrubbed it but still smells cheesy so I think it will have to be the valet...
Feeling for all those with small DC waking them early, it’s tough

ememem84 · 05/06/2021 13:49

martha nursery are always so apologetic when the kids come out covered in god knows what. I’ve always told them that it shows they’ve had a good time.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/06/2021 15:09

Yeah reception teacher apologised for dd being regularly filthy. Couldn't give a fig was my reply, as long as she is happy
