How much do you spend on takeaway/delivery each month?

Hi

My mum and dad would usually get a takeaway each weekend like chinese or Indian food when I was growing up. Im now married and thinking to myself what is the average for a monthly spend on takeaways?? One on a Saturday night... a mcdonalds in the week... is that normal? Say every Saturday night to order pizza, Chinese or Indian so around £20-25. My husband doesn’t like the idea of ordering food for delivery obviously it’s a lot more money and it’s normally bad for you etc.. I just think of it as a normal thing that most households do a minimum of once a week! Especially if you can afford it and at the end of a hard working week fancy a treat! Tell me your weekly or monthly takeaway amount 😀😀

Pre lockdown- takeaway rarely, maybe once a month. However, we eat out A LOT. We can do 5/7 nights eating out, mostly with a voucher code.

kojolo · 27/06/2020 19:50

When I'm in the UK, maybe once a week takeaway from a restaurant, a few lunches out a week, a dinner out a week, maybe. When I'm in the US honestly it could be three meals a day ordered in. (There are weird financial pressures that make this a non crazy decision in Manhattan, though I never believed it until I lived there so know you won't believe me either!)

I love eating out with friends. Love it and miss it! I'm happy to spend as much as I can afford on food and plan to do it again as soon as possible.

pigcon1 · 27/06/2020 19:51

3 since the start of lockdown- one was for a family celebration

Tangledyarn · 27/06/2020 19:52

I'd say roughly fortnightly, it's been weekly during lockdown. Theres only the two of us so about 20-25 each time.

Thatbitchcarolebaskin · 27/06/2020 19:55

Ok this sounds awful (but this was before January!)

I’d get breakfast take away, lunch takeaway and dinner take away twice a week

Blush

I now only buy take away once per month Grin

OttilieKnackered · 27/06/2020 19:55

@Oblomov20

How come yours are all so cheap? Our Indian takeaways are about £60 or £80 for the 4 of us. I mean poppadoms, onion salad, a starter, 4 curries, 4 rice, a nann.

We only order once every couple of months, as a treat.

I would never get a curry and rice each, especially for four. I would get 2-3 curries, 2 rice, maybe 2 nan. This is for adults! When me and DP get a takeaway we do get a curry each but half of mine if saved for the next day. Rarely a starter. Takeaway portions are huge!
Minniee · 27/06/2020 19:56

Saturday is takeaway night, costs about £60. Sometimes have one Friday too if we CBA cooking

All different stuff depending on what we fancy.

Scrowy · 27/06/2020 20:02

Never.

No one delivers to us and it's an hour round trip to pick one up from the nearest town. There's a chip shop thats a 30 minute round trip but we can do deep fried chips ourselves more conveniently.

If I lived somewhere more urban I would have a Thai takeaway at least once a week.

MaverickDanger · 27/06/2020 20:02

50-60 a month for 2 of us. Probably slightly more at the moment as we would also eat out once a week, and I’m refusing to cook more than I need to.

Lockdown has shown me that food is our biggest expense.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/06/2020 20:04

We probably only get one or two takeaways a year normally. During lock down it's been more regular, we've maybe averaged one a month and that's usually £25-30

Doodar · 27/06/2020 20:06

We’ve just had a curry for 4 £66, dh ordered Chinese and it was £24.
Over lockdown we’ve had a couple of Deliveroos per week, about £120 for the 2.
We do normally eat out a lot and spend £200+ a week.

bloodywhitecat · 27/06/2020 20:06

It's a treat here because we live in the sticks and no-one delivers here so it means one of us (usually him) has to get in the car and go and get it but then it's cold by the time he gets home again. We rarely have a takeaway so our monthly spend is £0.

Yankathebear · 27/06/2020 20:08

Maybe £30 maximum every 4 months before lockdown and once since.
That’s for 4 of us.

I’m not a massive fan and can think of other things that I would rather spend my money on.

We did used to eat out at restaurants every couple of months at around £80 a night.

I have a friend who has take out daily.

passthemustard · 27/06/2020 20:08

Trying to cut down on take aways. I'd say at least once a week we get something. If it's just for me and DH it'll be £20-30 and if it's for the kids too (x4) it'll be up to £60-70 😬

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 27/06/2020 20:10

Before Covid we went out for dinner once a week, but relatively cheap places with the kids, Pizza Express, Gourmet Burger Kitchen etc, (£80 ish for 4 of us) then about once a month we would have babysitters and DH and I would go out for something a bit more fancy (£100-150 for two). Now we get a takeaway once a week on a Saturday, to mark the weekend when we were in lockdown as all the days were the same. So now we spend about £50 a week on that, but it does last two meals.

Hopeful57 · 27/06/2020 20:12

I can't remember the last time I had take out...

I do buy frozen pizza for lazy evenings. Which is basically the same as takeout, I guess. About once to maybe twice a month, I guess?

Mummyshark2018 · 27/06/2020 20:13

Takeaways near me aren't that good. We tend to pick up food from a local Thai restaurant. Probably twice a month. Costs about £40 for 3 people.

oohnicevase · 27/06/2020 20:13

Nothing .

passthemustard · 27/06/2020 20:14

We did get a take away from our local Michelin starred restaurant a few months ago. It was £15/head for 2 courses. Puts our normal Chinese to shame price wise and was absolutely gorgeous!

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 27/06/2020 20:18

I usually cook and we have a theme. Tonight was Mexican and it's all done at the table on platters. We put streamers etc up too.

This came about when the DC were younger and we didn't have the money for restaurants so did restaurant at home instead.

About once a month we get a takeaway, it usually comes to around £40 whereas I spent around £10 on stuff for our Mexican ( tacos, spicy rice's, salads etc and churros for pud )) I couldn't justify spending more than that. I'd rather have a holiday for the money i'd be wasting tbh.

PontiacBandit · 27/06/2020 20:19

We normally spend around £25 on chinese/Indian/ pizza for the 4 of us. We have takeaway every 6-8 weeks.

Ffsnosexallowed · 27/06/2020 20:19

Just now once a week ‐ about £25‐30 per week. Pre lockdown we'd also have Saturday lunch out and a weekend breakfast out.

Peanutbutteryogurt · 27/06/2020 20:20

We get it about once a month. I don't really count McDonalds or fast food type places though, and I wouldn't have those for dinner. We'd probably have fast food once every few months or on a long car journey or something. So about 20-30 a month. I'd happily eat it every week if money was no object, I love take away.

movealongnothingheretogawpat · 27/06/2020 20:21

Two of us and pre lockdown we would have eaten takeaway say 3x in 2 weeks so about 6x per month average £30 so about £180 per month , ( but probably would have eaten out as many times as well )
Through lockdown we have had less takeaways probably about 6 total since early March , both worked from home and had lots of time as no travelling .

SuckingDieselFella · 27/06/2020 20:23

Nothing.
