How much do you spend on takeaway/delivery each month?

Hi

My mum and dad would usually get a takeaway each weekend like chinese or Indian food when I was growing up. Im now married and thinking to myself what is the average for a monthly spend on takeaways?? One on a Saturday night... a mcdonalds in the week... is that normal? Say every Saturday night to order pizza, Chinese or Indian so around £20-25. My husband doesn’t like the idea of ordering food for delivery obviously it’s a lot more money and it’s normally bad for you etc.. I just think of it as a normal thing that most households do a minimum of once a week! Especially if you can afford it and at the end of a hard working week fancy a treat! Tell me your weekly or monthly takeaway amount 😀😀

About £250 a month during lockdown

Got to support the economy GrinWink

sHREDDIES19 · 27/06/2020 19:28

One curry a week for two which is £14. It’s a great deal plus tasty!

ohtheholidays · 27/06/2020 19:29

Before lockdown and when there was 7 of us at home(our 5DC,my DH and myself) we'd probably have 2-3 take aways a month and we'd spend about £70-£80 per take away, alot less if was something like mcdonalds.

Now we haven't been able to go out for meals together we're having 1 every week but there's only 4 of us at home now so it usually comes in at under £50.

SpillTheTeaa · 27/06/2020 19:30

About £100 a month usually get one on a Friday and maybe sometime a McDs in the week if I we can't be bothered.

ImFree2doasiwant · 27/06/2020 19:30

I don't get anything delivered. I might occasionally (once a month or less) take the children to McDonald's. We live near the coast so might have chips at the seaside a few times a year.

Very minimal takeaway spends here!

Wotrewelookinat · 27/06/2020 19:31

We hardly every get take away...maybe twice a year for a family of 5. The idea always seems nice but the reality is never that good so we don’t bother.

Bluntness100 · 27/06/2020 19:31

I get the treat us nit having to cook but don’t other people in the house have the ability to cook?

Honestly the way it’s written by many it’s the food that’s seen as the treat. Not the night off cooking.

But for me, if I don’t want to cook then my husband cooks. I would only understand the night off cooking if no other people in the house physically able to cook.

Bubbletrouble43 · 27/06/2020 19:33

@Bluntness100
Trust me, the lamb gosth katha from my local Indian is a treat. It is literally the best plate of food I've ever tasted in my life. I can never help saying this as I tuck in, which upsets dp as he's a chef 🤣

greysome · 27/06/2020 19:36

Takeaway... barely ever. Think we've had 2 in the past 9 months. However that's partly influenced by crap takeaways near by, just have very basic Indian, Chinese and Kebab shop stuff. Can't stomach McDonald's. If there was more exciting options probably more often, but can't imagine more than once a month even then. Going out for dinner or lunch though, normally once a week.

babynoname23 · 27/06/2020 19:36

Wow, we have takeaway 2-3 times a week! Just me and DP. My parents had one every Saturday night when I was growing up

Sooobooored · 27/06/2020 19:38

Takeaway once every three months or so, about £15. Dc have the odd McDonald’s or kfc too.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/06/2020 19:38

About once a month, usually pizza - around £25 for the two of us. We often have ready meal type things at the weekends though, M&S dine-in etc. Usually we would eat out at least a couple of times a month, go out for coffee etc too.

As a child my parents always had a monthly Saturday night Chinese takeaway when my dad got paid. Chinese chips for the kids, but my mum used to cook us fish fingers or something because we didn’t like the Chinese food! If it was a holiday weekend we would get fish and chips on the Friday.

Ha! Ok I get that,,,😀

maddiemookins16mum · 27/06/2020 19:40

Monthly Chinese (usually the first Saturday night after payday). £25.
Sometimes a random other night in the month too, if we fancy a treat.

okiedokieme · 27/06/2020 19:41

At one (very bad) point we had slipped into bad habits and were eating out 2-3 times a week plus 2-3 takeaways eg once midweek, Friday takeaway Saturday lunch out Saturday night takeaway, Sunday lunch out evening pizza. I don't want to think of the cost but it wasn't an issue, the health was! No longer married and better habits eating out or takeaway once per week max

hiredandsqueak · 27/06/2020 19:42

We have a takeaway only a couple of times a year. I could afford it regularly but the couple of times a year is as often as I fancy one.

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 27/06/2020 19:42

I would certainly see the food itself as a treat! I mean I can cook family meals from scratch and don’t hate doing it but some of the delicious Indian, Thai and Middle Eastern meals we’ve had would be difficult and time consuming to reproduce at home not to mention require ingredients I wouldn’t usually have just sitting in the cupboard/fridge.

I suppose everyone has different ideas of what constitutes a treat, not that hard to understand really.

Lordamighty · 27/06/2020 19:42

Never have takeaway but pre lockdown we did eat out quite a lot. We do spend a lot on our weekly shop though.

InfiniteGerbils · 27/06/2020 19:43

We used to have a takeaway every month but also a date night out every month.

So takeaway spends = £40.

Since lockdown though, it’s been every week (£40) and the sheer hell of juggling two parents WFH FT and three under 5 = occasional fish and chips.

So now, £160 - £200 a month.

Yeah, that’s a lot Shock

1066vegan · 27/06/2020 19:44

We have a takeaway from our local Indian most Fridays. It's about £25 for the 3 of us. I love not having to cook at the end of the week.

Patsypie · 27/06/2020 19:45

£73 for 3?! Is it caviar?

whereorwhere · 27/06/2020 19:45

Once a week - family of five usually about 45 quid. If we are very bad we might have one twice a week

Oblomov20 · 27/06/2020 19:46

How come yours are all so cheap? Our Indian takeaways are about £60 or £80 for the 4 of us. I mean poppadoms, onion salad, a starter, 4 curries, 4 rice, a nann.

We only order once every couple of months, as a treat.

Oblomov20 · 27/06/2020 19:48

Loads and loads of my friends, ie most, order a Chinese or an Indian weekly! Shock
