How much do you spend on takeaway/delivery each month?

Hi

My mum and dad would usually get a takeaway each weekend like chinese or Indian food when I was growing up. Im now married and thinking to myself what is the average for a monthly spend on takeaways?? One on a Saturday night... a mcdonalds in the week... is that normal? Say every Saturday night to order pizza, Chinese or Indian so around £20-25. My husband doesn’t like the idea of ordering food for delivery obviously it’s a lot more money and it’s normally bad for you etc.. I just think of it as a normal thing that most households do a minimum of once a week! Especially if you can afford it and at the end of a hard working week fancy a treat! Tell me your weekly or monthly takeaway amount 😀😀

Probably once every few months and usually with a deal or voucher code. Maybe £20 for two of us.

Two takeaways a week would be about £160 a month! Shock more depending on how many people there are

AteAllTheAfterEights · 27/06/2020 18:23

We’re dieting now but normally 1x£30-40 a week

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/06/2020 18:25

Payday weekend treat in this house. With an occasional Macdonalds in a half term.

DisaK · 27/06/2020 18:27

I probably get one every fortnight at around £15 - £25 a time and go to McDonald's a couple of times a month

Bluntness100 · 27/06/2020 18:27

Probably about every three to four weeks, we spend quite a lot though, just two of us and spend about 50 Or sixty quid if Indian or Chinese then it gets eaten the next day also, purely because we like a selection and don’t order Just our own meals. Usually starters, mains and sides.

Pre Covid we went for dinner every week or two. I’d not order a McDonald’s or anything like that, I find that a bit grim. But I’ll order a Chinese, Indian or Thai for dinner. Occasionally a pizza but that’s very rare.

ItWillBeOkayOnTheNight · 27/06/2020 18:27

My DP is currently out picking up a take away for 3 and its £73

HanPanPeg · 27/06/2020 18:28

Once a week - about £120 a month. Will be various but usually burgers, Indian or pizza. Occasionally fish and chips or sushi or something else!

Nutrigrainygoodness · 27/06/2020 18:29

We haven't had a takeaway since before Christmas.
I'm just disappointed nearly every time I get one. So its not worth wasting the money on.
My mum and dad get a takeaway once a week.

Cummingsandgoings · 27/06/2020 18:29

Have never had takeaway food delivered to the house. But sometimes buy fish and chips or collect takeaway pizza for the children Occasionally get supermarket 'dine in' type ready meals or a tub of decent ice-cream - which I think probably count as the equivalent of a takeaway. We don't do this every week but probably works out at equivalent of £5 ish per week/£20 per month.

Miltonroad · 27/06/2020 18:29

It's over 50 for all of us we probably have a takeaway every couple of months. None since lockdown and didn't miss McDonald's being closed think I last ate one in about 1998

Swifey40 · 27/06/2020 18:30

We don't, although we have the money to do so. It's usually pretty rubbish and I can do much better at home. Our end of the week treat woul be a homemade meze/tapas style supper. (Caveat - we do live in the country so there is a very basic fish and chip shop, awful Chinese and pretty crap Indian I'm the local town)
I may be persuaded if I lived in London and there was a lot of (good) choice.

HanPanPeg · 27/06/2020 18:30

I wish it was less but we obviously can’t go out to restaurants or cafes now and it’s soooo boring cooking all our meals every single day.

Leobynature · 27/06/2020 18:31

When I was growing up we were allowed a takeaway about once a month. We lived on home cooked meals. For this reason I don’t buy many takeaways, probably about once per month. However, I do go out to eat a lot pre lockdown as this was usually how I socialised with friends. I go out to eat perhaps a few times a month Blush

morethanafortnight · 27/06/2020 18:32

We have fish and chips on a Friday every few weeks, and perhaps a Chinese takeaway once a month - usually because I've just got paid and can't be arsed to cook!
So I'd say around £50 - £60 a month.

Bluntness100 · 27/06/2020 18:33

I just think of it as a normal thing that most households do a minimum of once a week

I don’t think it is to be honest. I know one family who do every sat night but most folks I know don’t do it weekly.

We can afford it, We just don’t want a takeaway weekly and neither of us did have one growing up either.

Cummingsandgoings · 27/06/2020 18:33

Your question isn't going to tell you anything though as households are different sizes. You need to ask how people how much their spend works out to per person per month (counting DC as half a person).

hauntedvagina · 27/06/2020 18:34

When my favourite Chinese reopens I plan to have one every day for a week Wink

But really, probably once a week. Usually on the weekend but sometimes mid week if I can't be bothered with cooking.

Zoflorabore · 27/06/2020 18:34

We usually get food delivered twice a month which is either from a Mexican or a place that sells pizza/burgers/chicken.
Costing around £30 a time, always at the weekend.

Dd and her dad go to McDonald’s 2/3 times a month when out of a Saturday.
We don’t eat out often, maybe once a month or every two months. We can afford to eat well which I’m very grateful for.

Sarahplane · 27/06/2020 18:35

once or twice a month, usually around £25 a time. I find Chinese is £20-25 for 3 of us and indian works out about £35 for just two of us.

Carolbaskinstiger · 27/06/2020 18:36

I really wouldn’t want to know. I reckon we’ll over £150 (and it’s just two of us). Usually at least one every weekend at around £30 - and fairly often one during the week. Say every fortnight.

Fruitloopcowabunga · 27/06/2020 18:38

Never. DH takes the kids to McDonalds occasionally, maybe every 3 weeks normally, a bit more often in school holidays if I'm working.

Whitelisbon · 27/06/2020 18:38

We have one on payday as a treat, but not every month, depends on dh and dd's shifts, after school clubs etc. Probably have 8 a year.
We had one last night, cost us £40, fed 6 of us and enough leftovers for the dc to have pizza for lunch today.

RomaineCalm · 27/06/2020 18:40

One of the positives of lockdown is that we have reduced the number of takeaways that we have - partly financial and partly because we haven't had evenings where we get home late from work/DC activities and just order a pizza because we haven't had time to think about food.

So pre-lockdown it was probably once a week - around £30-35 each time depending on what we ordered.

Now it's around once a month which feels much better.

totallyyesno · 27/06/2020 18:40

We get takeaway pizza for 5 every week which is about 80 -90 euros a month.

Happygirl79 · 27/06/2020 18:43

Never.
I can afford takeaways but they have almost always disappointed me in the past so I don't bother
I would rather cook a lovely meal and eat it at leisure
