Thanks for the new thread wolf
Better day at work today, but having to work tomorrow as our managers have decided it should just be a normal day. But, as yet, the expected surge in workload hasn't happened. Anyway we are al being paid BH enhancements so there is a plus side.
Did pub quiz tonight, competing with friends which was great fun.
Hot cross bun dough prepped & proving.
Did our big food shop at 7 this morning (nhs hour) & got everything on the list £138 but £12 is for my mum, £12 for ds' beer which he has paid us for and £16 on Easter eggs.
Ds & dd are both receiving furlough pay for their bar work and waitressing, good news for them.

ememem84 · 10/04/2020 07:21

I am so glad that it’s a long weekend.

Hot cross buns were divine. We caved last night and tried one. My best yet! #smug

Beautiful sunny morning here. I’m going to do a test strand of pink on my hair then after breakfast take ds out for a walk I think. In the pram so we can get a nice big walk in.

Dk20 · 10/04/2020 07:44

Thanks @SnugglySnerd

I'll introduce myself a bit and why I decided to join the thread Smile

My Visa debit card mysteriously stopped working at the beginning of March and I only got my new card activated yesterday. So for that month my spending seriously dropped, there was no impulse buying and no random purchases on the internet. My bank is looking a lot healthier because of it. So now my new card is working I'm not sure if that's actually a good thing or a bad thing Confused. After activating my new card I saw this post in the 'credit crunch' section and decided to take a look.

I had a quick look at your March thread also and have stuff in common with lots of you. I have two boys aged 6 and 10 months . I've been working from home for the last month (finance) while looking after the kids and we have also had to take on a bigger workload and do longer hours Sad. Its been a hectic week.

So glad for the long weekend, will be getting out in the garden with the kids and also out for long walks in the woods that we live right next to. I have the majority of my food shop done for the weekend already (from the shop I did last sunday) so will just have to pick up a few bits. Thinking of making a cake for dessert on Sunday but if theres still a flour shortage on my local shop, it will have to be something like a biscuit cake that doesn't require flower.

ememem84 · 10/04/2020 07:45

Pink is on. 40 minutes to wait....

Wolfcub · 10/04/2020 07:56

Em I think pink hair will look great
Welcome DK

Total failure to sleep in despite it being much needed. Dammit

Dparents dropped Easter eggs and flowers in the garden for us yesterday we had a brief chat from one side of the garden to the other. Ds saw them just to say hello from the door and also had a video meeting with one of the groups he's part of. After he said it's nicer to be just on his own. When I probed that a bit (because he is much more of a social animal than I) he said it's easier not to see people at all then you don't realise how much you miss them Sad

I'm going to dig out my national record of achievement today to fill in the qualifications bit of the application form. That would just leave the 1000 word statement to do at the weekend which I can use my competencies for if I just tweak them into something that's a coherent whole.

Wolf thanks for Fred.

That is so sad for your ds. I have been surprised at how resilient my 2 are - but they are part of a pair which makes it easier. DD has her phone permanently glued to her ear - her unlimited calls tariff is well worth the money this month. DS is helping in the garden - even the unlimited play station is starting to wane.

Welcome DK - I am thingking of doing this one

link to apricot cake scroll to the end of the article. Although I am doing a non vegan and possibly any tin of fruit at the back of the cupboard flavour. It is 355g of flour which is quite a lot, but cake four is not yet at critical levels ( I found a Brexit pack behind the pasta / rice stack).

I am doing my month end wish shopping list. I am glad at times like these that frugality has trained me to be able to swap ingredients in and out & still get something vaguely edible on the table.

Is anyone else watching JO's isolation cooking programme on CH4? I caught an episode yesterday and was really inspired.

Taytocrisps · 10/04/2020 08:39

We started on Ex's 'mystery' jigsaw last night. The picture on the box doesn't match the actual jigsaw, so we're doing it blind - making up a puzzle with no idea what the picture is. It's definitely a challenge.

I have to hit the supermarket today - four shops including Boots for sanitary towels and the pet shop for pet litter.

I'm a bit stiff and sore from the window cleaning and tennis playing yesterday.

Snuggly we're trying out your pizza recipe today.

Wolf thanks for the new thread. I'm sorry you've had such a rough week at work. Hope you enjoyed your beer.

Welcome Dk

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/04/2020 08:49

Thanks for the new thread wolf.
Welcome dk.

Will catch up in a bit

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/04/2020 08:57

Still feeling grotty and a bit low. Will shake myself in a bit.

Ah bless DS wolf, it's hard when we are missing people. Pleased you saw parents though.

Le yum em. I might make some today. Never done hot X buns before. Hair pic please if you go for it.

In going to watch the JO thing. I will find it on catch up.

Dk, where in the country are you. For the frugaleers geography.

Unescorted · 10/04/2020 09:07

A question for those of you who have been poorly - did it start with sorish legs and fingers, tightness across the top of the chest, an irritating cough and a slightly raised temperature?

SnugglySnerd · 10/04/2020 09:08

I hope you like the pizza Tayto.
Dh and dd are making hot x buns today.

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/04/2020 09:11

Yes unescorted. Not legs but sore finger joints.

Unescorted · 10/04/2020 09:13

Bollocks.... I am going to have to isolate for 7 days aren't I?

Bornlazy · 10/04/2020 09:21

Wolf thanks for new thread and sorry work is rubbish at the moment. Morning everyone and welcome Dk20

I ventured out to a normal shop yesterday and was shocked by the lengths of some of the queues to get in. Waitrose in particular had a horrendous line that snaked all round the cones they had laid out in their carpark. I haven’t braved a NHS early session yet.

The weather here has been rubbish cold and drizzly yesterday but I still went my walk and achieved my 10000 steps over the day.

Mrs sorry to hear about pidgy you did your best.

Life I went back a bit too with my cough at day 10 I think whatever this is it’s quite common to do that. Unescorted yes I had sore legs and tight chest, hope you get a mild version.

LaneBoy · 10/04/2020 09:49

Unescorted yes definitely had the achiness - I dismissed it at first as assumed it was usual ME/fibro pain but it got really intense. I’m intrigued about the finger pain as yep had that too but hadn’t seen any mention of that elsewhere! Temperature was up for a while, not a super high fever for me (unlike the Caglets) but my body temp is generally on the low end of normal so quite an increase IYSWIM.

Other weird issues were lack of taste/appetite, and sore eyes - that was annoying me for a few days before the sore throat even started. It still could have been tonsillitis (the throat/ear pain was the worst) but I’ve never had those other symptoms with it. The others coughed more than I did, none of us had a huge amount of respiratory issues thankfully but that does make me wonder if we just had some other virus. But then I also read lots of accounts saying they’d started with sore throats - can’t help wondering if they should be adding that to the warnings about self isolating as lots are also saying the cough doesn’t even develop for a few days, if it does at all!

Finally decided to order a few bits from Amazon, totalling just over £50 - mostly for entertainment TBH but also got some kick pads like they use at tae kwon do. We have boxing focus pads already but this will give another exercise opportunity for the Caglets.

Wolfcub · 10/04/2020 12:27

Been for a walk complete with full Kevin the Teenager. Downstairs cleaned apart from the bathroom. Flaps washed for the postie.

Cuppa then lunch. Dinner this evening will be a beef stew with rainbow chars and possibly celeriac.

Ocado have reduced the frequency of deliveries you're allowed again. Not necessarily a bad thing but would have been handy for them to notify me of that a week ago so I could have added to my order

ememem84 · 10/04/2020 13:02

I keep reading about symptoms and then thinking shit I had that!

Massive walk with ds. In the sun which was nice. Walked to the local reservoir round it and back. Saw some very friendly cows

Picnic in the garden for lunch.

The pink is very subtle on my hair. Well on the strand I did anyway. Going to do the rest in a bit. May as well do it this afternoon when I’ve got nothing else to do...!!

Wolf I’m sure the postie will appreciate your clean flaps WinkGrin

Welcome Dk. And yes Unescorted it does sound a bit like it so you probably do Hmm

Been to Sainsburys in the early nhs slot. Spent £50 and it wasn’t even the main shop, which Ocado is bringing tomorrow night. I bought urgent bread and milk, plus some stuff that Ocado couldn’t provide, and also 3 bags of compost (which is why I went there rather than little shops on the high st). My tomato planters arrived yesterday and they are going to need quite a lot more to fill them than I have. Now just waiting for the plants to arrive!

Made banana bread for a friend, and caramel shortbread for DH. Just needs the chocolate layer once the caramel has cooled.

I’m gearing up to changing our bed, which I hate doing as the mattress is so heavy! I’m not very energetic today but want to get a bit ahead on housework as it’s going to be proper hot tomorrow, 25C here apparently
