Top baking tip. Do not pick up the loose bottom fluted flan case you have just carefully pressed a biscuit crust into with your fingers under the base of the flan case. You will end up with biscuit crumb all over the bloomin kitchen Blushwhy is there not a facepalm emoji when you need one

Happy Easter everyone!
Lovely hair ladies!
We will do our egg hunt later.
I wish we could go out though, the weather is lovely here today!

ChristmasSeacow · 12/04/2020 13:28

Chocolate for breakfast is traditional Tayto Wink. We didn’t get the bouncy castle out because the ground is still quite damp (our garden is fairly waterlogged in winter and takes ages to dry out). However, I ordered a tarpaulin to use underneath it so we can put it up on the next nice day. Much easier to dry the tarpaulin than the whole bouncy castle! They are fairly happy with the slide, sandpit and swing anyway (we have a lot of garden gear as it is tricky to take DS out in the holidays when places are crowded).

I also find lots of noise from different sources a bit much. Also neighbour noise (I had an horrendous problem with noisy downstairs neighbours in a flat once - it nearly broke me, I actually had to sell up and move). During lockdown I am generally okay but must admit I am really missing having time on my own. I just need a bit of time alone every now and then to recharge - even my normal commute helps! I am going to hide upstairs tomorrow and sort and fold a huge pile of laundry, just to escape!

This is my hair. I wash it c. once a week, comb when wet, stick an anti frizz product in and leave to dry. Literally nothing else. Spritz it with water each morning to revive it. For years I fought my curls but now I just leave them to it Grin. I love that I don’t have to spent time on it, though it is getting a bit straggly now, I normally wear it a bit shorter.

DC had a lovely egg hunt in the garden today. I bought two boxes of foil-wrapped eggs from Ocado without being able to tell how many were in each box but there were loads so we only used one box. Probably too late to donate the other to a food bank now Confused.

Bit of knitting now and then a roast chicken dinner later (again) as none of my lot eat lamb 🙄

I’ve been annoyed at dh because he’s been super good and creative and has made a bbq store thing for our garden out of the old shed. #frugal

But. The noise. All day yesterday. Hammering and banging. And sawing. Did my bloody head in. And the poor neighbours. He has done a pretty good job. But still.

I wash my hair once or twice a week. Depending on how it is. I’m tempted not to wash it again until I go back to work proper. But not sure if I can handle the icky.

I tend to wash woth shampoo and conditioner add redken all soft oil (someone on mn recommended this to me a couple of years ago and I’m a convert. It’s pricey. But a little goes a long way!) then blow dry if I can be arsed.

If I blow dry my hair does straightish. If not I get the waves/loose curls. Day one it’s down. Day two half hour half down. Day three pony. Day four messy bun. Day five messy bun. Day six mostly dry shampoo::::!

I’m in the garden. Reading a book. With a glass of bubbly. This hasn’t happened for so so long. Dh and ds are in the sun tent in the garden. Dd is napping. I’m effectively on my own. It’s glorious. So many chirpy birds.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/04/2020 13:54

Sea your hair is what I want my hair to do but it never does!! I use more products on my hair now and try and buy curly girl approved stuff. I like the Cantu products best. I don't cope very well with my hair being down for long as it starts to annoy me so it's mostly up in a messy bun.

It's another beautiful day here, dd has got stuck into a puzzle and I've been in the garden reading.

We had a roast dinner Ystd so not sure what we'll have today.

SnugglySnerd · 12/04/2020 14:13

Your hair is similar to mine Sea. I usually wash it about every 5th day but it can last a week. I co-wash, add anti-frizz stuff and leave it to dry. Spray with water and add more anti-frizz stuff as and when needed. Also do the pony tail and messy bun thing as the week goes on. Since lock down it's been pony tail on most days!

ChristmasSeacow · 12/04/2020 14:34

Snuggly I never imagined you as my hair twin! I thought similar colour but would have guessed straighter, slightly longer and very thick 😂.

Unescorted · 12/04/2020 15:23

I am lucky to go 2 days The afternoon of the second day needs a hat.

give I use this web site to calculate roasting times www.cookingtimes.co.uk/beef this is the beef page but other meats are available. It has been really good for everything so far.

Tayto I have no idea either what causes MI5... DD is working her way through the GCHQ puzzle book and sometimes gives me an easy one to have a try and fail at.
You are never going to take your things for granted if your DD is doing Art. The chopping board is just the start. Everything is repurposed.

I have spent the day pottering in the garden - the honeysuckles are more refined, the herb bed is replanted, rose in, clematis, passionfruit and jasmin ( all Aldi specials) planted up. Cottage garden bed done... our garden needed a proper overhaul so it has been satisfying to crack on. Tomorrow I am planting seeds for the vege bed and more tender things.
Now dh & ds can see progress they are more willing to help, which is as well because my ability to make retaining walls and put trellis up is nil to minimal.
I will report back in the summer with tales of success or not as the case may be.

Wolfcub · 12/04/2020 15:35

Hair washed every day here. Like Unescorted I would need a hat. A bloody big one.

Glad everyone is having a good Easter. We've just had Easter lunch/dinner. Totally not traditional, seem to have used every pan but frugally we've bought nothing extra for it, I've used one of the packs of instant mash (one down many many packs to go), I finished the cauliflower that I curried most of last weekend and some sad psb from the veg box and finished the frugal Yorkshire's that I froze when my eggs were on the turn.

Banoffee pie yum but rich and messy. I suspect ds will see off most of it

I need to wash my hair every second day or my scalp feels greasy and I feel icky. I could stretch it to a third day if I wasn’t going out but that’s the absolute maximum. I love the smell of freshly washed hair so for me it lifts my spirits to wash it frequently.

Welcome give I have a feeling this thread will get hugely busy soon as lots of people are going to be in the same boat. On the plus side for me there’s no holiday to pay for this year but I know that some people couldn’t afford a holiday anyway so that won’t help them. I suppose the careful meal planning and trying not to waste food will stand us all in good stead for the coming months ahead

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/04/2020 16:12

I was my hair everyday now it's short. Used to be a couple of times a week.

Making the JO veg chilli from his daily program. Seems nice so far

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 12/04/2020 16:14

I have a pixie cut, so it needs washing everyday, but do try to leave it for longer in the holidays but can only manage a maximum of three days, because then it just feels icky and itchy.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 12/04/2020 16:19

All this talk about cooking and baking is lovely.
I was watching Saturday Kitchen (BBC1) earlier and from tomorrow at 10am for two weeks they will do a daily show, Mon-Fri.
The show will concentrate on the food that may be knocking about in the kitchen or using substitutes for ingredients.
I will be watching it, hopefully will give me some inspiration.

SnugglySnerd · 12/04/2020 16:49

I have a crumble in the oven made with rhubarb from the garden. Super frugal!

Unescorted · 12/04/2020 18:47

Mr Rhubarb in the garden isn't big enough to eat this year. He started life as the runt of the litter, rescued from a compost heap & then I neglected him in a pot...he was planted last year but is only looking healthy for the first time this year. I will give him a year before giving him a hair cut. We have used his shop bought cousin and some bramleys for our crumble.

We are having hamburgers and chips for tea tonight

Happier my chilli plant says thank you for reminding me to repot it today. It will have to be re - potted later when I can get a nice pot for it. It wouldn't have lasted if it didn't get a bigger pot.

Curvy thanks for the heads up re Saturday Kitchen.

ememem84 · 12/04/2020 20:41

The Saturday kitchen daily thing is presented by jack Monroe I think?

I like her. I know some don’t. But her recipes are good. (Am I meant to use her? Him? They? Not sure...no offence meant)

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 12/04/2020 21:56

Sea, lovely hair too.
Unescorted, no worries, I will be ready with a pen and paper!
Em, yes, Matt Tebbutt is presenting.
Jack did go by 'they' before, not sure now.

Unescorted we seem to get a decent amount of rhubarb every other year. There's loads at the moment, I don't remember any last year and at some point before that I thought we'd killed it off!

It's gone really windy here.
