You can pipe instant mash onto things like cottage pie for a retro vibe!

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/04/2020 07:37

Happy Easter. The bunny came here and did clues too which is a first.
Welcome give.
Sorry the takeaway was rubbish.

Not sure what we will do today. Maybe stay in and potter..... Might go for a walk.
DD stayed up to 1am chatting with friends on WhatsApp.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/04/2020 07:38

Mmm instant mash with butter and cheese.

maddenlightfoot · 12/04/2020 07:54

Ah instant mash makes me so nostalgic! My mum (not known for her culinary skills) used to make 'cheese, onion and potato pie' which was smash, mixed with dried onion and cheese, squashed flat into an oven dish and then baked. I used to eat mine covered in tomato ketchup. The thought of it now is 😱, but I can still taste a little bit of deliciousness when I think about it!

I really need to wear the kids out today. They're all finding it tricky to get to sleep. It's nice that we get a lie in!! But not nice for them struggling to drop off. Lots of physical and mental exertion today I think.

northender · 12/04/2020 08:05

Morning all. Happy Easter!
Had a good but eventful day yesterday. Went out early to get shopping for next door neighbour & my mum & dad. Then ds drove me & dd in his car (test was due soon, he needs to keep practising) to deliver the groceries to my parents who live in the sticks about 6 miles away. Ds noticed a car following us as we got close to their house & definitely noticed the blue flashing lights when we were about 100 yards away! He pulled over and lo and behold it was the police questioning why we were out. When we explained and even were able to point to the house, he was fine and let us carry on, but poor ds was completely spooked and just about managed to get the car to splutter up the hill to mum & dad's with only a couple of stalls en route Grin. He recovered fine and drove us home really well, but could probably have done with one of his beta blockers!

We got home to find dh on the kitchen floor surrounded by the contents of the dishwasher & his toolbox as it had given up the ghost halfway through a cycle. The upshot is, we now have brilliantly clear outlet pipes from the dishwasher, but it still isn't working, so we are going to be resorting to washing up in the sink until lockdown ends. The dc are horrified, obviously.

The rest of the day was lovely and thankfully uneventful. We had a BBQ tea, accompanied by beer, cider and G&T and then spent the evening with friends (5 families) on zoom doing a quiz, each family having written a round. It was great fun and very welcome.

Unescorted · 12/04/2020 08:11

Madden you could wrap that in some puff pastry & that would make a cheese & onion pasty. Your mother was a genius before her time.

My entire family have become nocturnal - I will see the first one just after lunch. DD is spending all night drawing - I wake up in the morning to see progress on a huge picture she is doing for her "final project". She hasn't yet realised I have measured it up and made space on the wall for it.....

I have waded in on the My SIL is being really unreasonable for enjoying a simple life thread. It is so sad people can only feel good about themselves when they can slot themselves above others in a social pecking order.

Unescorted · 12/04/2020 08:15

North your poor DS - good effort on his part to keep going.

I think if we had to handwash the dishes we would each be allocated a single set and each person would be responsible for their own.

ememem84 · 12/04/2020 08:48

Thought I’d posted this yesterday. Not overly pink.

North poor ds. I thin AO and John Lewis are still delivering if you need a new dishwasher

Glad the Easter bunny has visited you all. Ds has three large eggs, one from h, one from my parents and one from my dgm. He's having manga books from me

The instant mash is actually not bad eating wise. There just seems to be a hell of a lot of it

Lovemaltesers · 12/04/2020 09:06

north we’re getting a new freezer delivered today by AO (our big one stopped working before CV and we were slow replacing it, then there were none available). They’ll also still take away the old one too.

Happy Easter everyone! We have a more manageable amount of chocolate this year. DD1 was sad that DP and I didn’t get an egg but we explained the Easter bunny was extra busy this year. We’re still eating chocolate from Christmas too so really not needed.

My mum messaged me last night to tell me apparently she got the wrong end of the stick. Apparently no one was suggesting my dad needs to go into a home. On the plus side, sounds like my dad stayed at home yesterday, so hasn’t upset their friends again.

Lovemaltesers · 12/04/2020 09:09

My frugal discovery of panic buying is reusable dish cloths. They were no sponges left when I shopped a few weeks ago so picked these up. I just chuck them in the washing machine whenever I put washing on. I’m a convert!

Lovemaltesers · 12/04/2020 09:12

Your poor DS north. I’m sure it’ll make him an even more sensible driver. Although he sounds like a good DC anyway!

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/04/2020 09:17

No not much pink em. You have lots of hair though.
Poor DS North. It's not an experience to repeat.
I love my stash of clothes. Defo worth it

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/04/2020 09:28

Em we have really similar hair! Have you got a natural wave? I'm still plodding in trying to do the curly girl method with mixed results tbh...

North the whole police state thing annoys me, I don't like that law abiding citizens are being quizzed.

Wolf yikes, I found a medium sized spider climbing up my leg this morning and completely freaked out!! Felt a bit guilty as the poor thing looked a bit crooked after I had smacked him off my leg 😬

Curly your poor dd , 9 is really young bless her. We found some cheaper period pants online but unhelpfully I can't remember which company we used, sorry! It's worth having a look around though, modibody are by far the most expensive.

The Easter bunny has been here, lots of chocolate to enjoy! He also left a fruit-ella hunt for dd who is more of a sweet person rather than chocolate.

Enjoying my garden this morning 😊

For em hair comparisons, I'm not brave enough to show you all my face 🤣

After the lock down I'm planning on getting a lot taken off, possibly just above the shoulders... I like long hair and it's useful in terms of being able to stick it up but it's a fair bit of maintenance.

ememem84 · 12/04/2020 09:40

girlie yep. A natural wavey messy uncontrollable ness to my hair! And so so thick. It’s both a blessing and a curse. 😂

Wolfcub · 12/04/2020 09:41

Girlie your hair is like mine when mine is long. At the moment it's just below chin length and I usually wear it straight but lockdown has been all curls

OP posts:
ememem84 · 12/04/2020 09:43

I’m due a haircut. So will get one booked in as soon as I can after all this. Whenever that might be. Hair is just at boob length at the moment. Like a mermaid!

We’re going for a walk. I’m feeling incredibly anxious today. Probably because we aren’t leaving the house much, the dc are noisy, dh is noisy and I can’t cope with all the noise.

I keep telling dh I can’t deal. But he doesn’t get it.

Yesterday I almost cried. Ds was in the kitchen with me when I was making dinner. He was shouting. Dh came in and started shouting with him. Dd was crying. Extractor fan on. And dishes clanking. Too much. Proper sensory overload.

maddenlightfoot · 12/04/2020 09:59

Haha yes unescorted! Cheese and onion pasty filling is exactly what the 'pie' resembles 😂

Girlie your garden is lovely, looks like a real haven.

Omg north what an experience for a learner driver!!

Em sorry you're feeling anxious. Are you able to get out for a walk on your own for some headspace? Or sit in the garden with headphones and a meditation or relaxing music? These are not normal times and I think it a only natural to not feel normal with our usual means of coping and escape.

Unescorted · 12/04/2020 10:07

My goodness - lots of lovely tresses. Mine is very very straight - fine but lots of it. It looks best when it about bob to chin length. The rest of the time it looks meh! The good news is I can wash and go - I don't even have to dry it, just run a comb through it when it is almost dry.

Girlie - love the garden!

Em - It is horrible when it all gets too noisy. I can cope with a single point of noise but when there are competing layers I just have to move away. It helps that the electric circuit is in the kitchen - when it gets too much I flick the circuit breaker and act all innocent when everyone comes piling into see why the electric has gone off.

Bornlazy · 12/04/2020 10:35

Happy Easter 🐣

Girlie your hair looks in fabulous condition. My hair is quite forgiving and I wear it tied up most of the time so I have been known to do the mumsnet haircut with a variety of results. I’m not a fan of going to the hairdressers so tend to only get it properly cut for holidays or big events. My dh cut ds2’s hair yesterday and it is interesting ...

Lovemaltesers · 12/04/2020 10:54

I can cope with my DC’s noise or I will ask them to tone it done when they get too loud. But I really can’t cope with the child next doors shouting and constantly talking at me when I am in the garden. We haven’t eaten outside yet because he just won’t leave us alone to eat our food. His parents appear immune or are hiding inside for some peace and quiet! I wish someone would invent sound proof fencing.

I tend to like listening to music on my own with nothing else on around. Otherwise it is too noisy and feels stressful.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/04/2020 12:07

Lovely hair girlie.
Mine used to be long thick and wavy.

Yy to sensory overload of noise. Especially eating and bubbling pans, irrationality. And completing noise.

Taytocrisps · 12/04/2020 12:34

Happy Easter everyone! A very different Easter Sunday but sure, the Easter Bunny came so all is good. We had chocolate for breakfast and spent a while working on the 'World's Most Difficult' jigsaw. We're having a tasty (I hope) lamb dinner with mash, carrots and broccoli. Chocolate for dessert. Later we'll finish off the Hogwarts Express (Lego) - we've two bags left. It's raining today so we won't get to play any tennis.

Yesterday we cleared out the hot press. Is it bad that DD is 15 and we still had Barbie and Dora duvet covers Blush? I'm donating everything to the charity shop and just keeping my two favourite duvet covers. I'll wash the rejects during the week and put them in refuse sacks until the charity shops re-open. There were some old clothes belonging to DD in the press also (she used to dress up her dolls in them) and she got all nostalgic when she saw them Smile. When the shops re-open, I'll buy some nice baskets for storing the bedding and towels.

DD is off to Ex's tomorrow, for a week. I'll miss her but I'll enjoy the peace and quiet. I feel like I'm constantly having to entertain her atm, so she won't be on her electronic devices 24/7 - only child guilt, I think. DCat1 will really miss her - he goes into her room every morning for a cuddle.

They finally made a decision on the state exams. The Leaving Certificate has been postponed until late July. DD was due to sit the Junior Certificate in June but they seem to be scrapping it altogether and replacing it with school based exams in the new academic year. It's all a bit vague and I don't know what that means for DD's art project - does she still need to do it? Maybe my chopping board will survive after all.

Curvy sorry your DD started her periods at such a young age

Seacow did you take out the bouncy castle?

Unescorted I love that you're getting recruitment ads for MI5 Grin. I'm intrigued by what's prompting those ads! That was a nice surprise from your brother. I had a read of that thread about the SIL although I didn't spot your contribution. My favourite comment was, "Do they pay tax?". Only on MN!

Girlie your garden is fab. I'd give my right arm for a visit to a garden centre right now. There's so much I could do in the garden but I've no plants or compost Sad.

Snuggly Baileys and an egg sounds like a good combination.

Welcome give

north that was a scary drive for DS! The barbecue and Zoom quiz sounds fun though.

Wolf good luck with your job application. Well done for clearing your credit card. You must be so relieved to be debt free (except for the mortgage and loan obviously). I'm so pleased for you. I also feel in control when I do my monthly budget. I'm in limbo regarding taking on the mortgage and proceeding with the separation - I can't do anything until we come out of lockdown.

Sorry to hear about your Dad Love - he's definitely safer at home than in a nursing home at this point in time.

ememem84 · 12/04/2020 12:41

Been for a nice walk. Had a snack picnic. Dd has started “singing” she just babbles away really loudly to herself. So nice to see.

Lamb for late lunch early dinner today. Have just made a apple pear and raspberry crumble.

Have said to dh that when the kiddos go down for naps I might go for one too.

Did Easter egg hunt this morning. Apparently the “Pizza” bunny came and left “leggies” in our garden.
