I've hidden Corona threads but they are creeping into the rest of the boards. Don't get me wrong I don't mind our chats just not the chaos of other threads.

Nice garden.

I'm WFH. DH has to go in at least once a week. Both key workers.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/05/2020 17:11

Hair looks great em!!

Love the front garden north, will look even better once everything starts growing.

Meadow I'm going out to work 50% of my time (nurse) 50% wfh.

Weathers changed here as well, was boiling ystd and still nice this morning , now it's grey and cold!!

I seem to be in the minority that think the new guidelines are sensible 😬 we can't live in lockdown indefinitely and we should be able to make some individual risk assessment.

Lovemaltesers · 10/05/2020 17:35

meadow I’m meant to go in once a week (school but admin), but last week and this week will likely go in twice as this is my busiest time of year (recruitment).

IcyWind · 10/05/2020 18:44

Thank you for the welcome backs!

The weather has been terrible here today, really blustery. It does make being stuck inside a bit better though, we have the garden but I miss our walks.

girlie I love the dementors thread, have just been lurking on it but I’m also glad to know I’m not alone in my thinking.

meadow I wish mine napped. They barely ever napped as babies. My covid anxiety has increased since finding out we were shielded. But I still think it should be eased for healthy people.

unescorted love the Chili!

em I love the pink hair!

The garden looks lovely north

The shopping cost £50. But that’s all we have spent!

Waiting patiently for the announcement now. I wonder what he’s going to say

SnugglySnerd · 10/05/2020 19:49

Well the announcement wasn't a big surprise given how much had been leaked to the press. It was vague but it seemed like a fairly sensible plan as far as I can tell.

Had a brilliant idea for tea tonight. We had some roast chicken in the freezer so I chopped it up and made pies in ramekins for dh and the dcs. Made a white sauce and also added some frozen peas and sweetcorn. Dh made some pastry and we just put a pastry lid on each ramekin. They went down very well.

Mrsmadevans · 10/05/2020 20:57

Evening everyone Smile hope you are all doing well Flowers
Great work with the garden North well done!
I have a theory like Baldrick had a plan Grin
I am wondering if the Govt are experimenting with differing lockdowns in the different countries. Then they will do whatever works. Just a thought Grin
I have no idea but atm in time l think l could do a better job than BJ with my eyes closed Hmm

Lovemaltesers · 10/05/2020 21:51

Eek. So many questions here for DP and I around work, DC schooling as only one in a year due to go back, and then things like breakfast/afterschool care.

I’m sure the guidance will arrive sometime soon...

lifelongfrugaleer · 10/05/2020 22:07

Guess just wait for full guidance tomorrow. My cleaner is re starting work but we can't have her as we can't socially distance as at least three of us will be in. DH said we should go out when she comes.

It's a first world problem but I'm really not sure it's right for her to come back yet with all the houses she visits.
I will of course pay her and offered to do so from the beginning.

What do you think?

Wolfcub · 10/05/2020 22:13

I get dh's point re going out Life but I think I'd find myself cleaning the things she's cleaned in case of infection risk so not worth it in my opinion

I had my gardener back the other week but we speak only by phone. I don't leave the house. They don't enter the house.

OP posts:
SnugglySnerd · 10/05/2020 22:23

Actually yes, now I've had time to think about it I have lots of questions too!

I wouldn't be happy about the cleaner I don't think. Like you say, she goes from house to house. I am a bit anxious about us all returning to school/nursery but that can't be avoided I suppose.

I may have just bought a dress...

Mrsmadevans · 10/05/2020 22:26

It's a de - stress dress Snuggly are we going to see a pic please Smile

MeadowHay · 10/05/2020 22:33

I'd love a cleaner and if I had one and they were happy to come in and work I think I would be up for that. But I do hate cleaning Wink and am definitely far less concerned about covid (on a personal level) than most of the population. I think most people wouldn't be happy with it. Bed time, off on my fortnightly bus trip to town tomorrow for work. Will be interested to see if it's any busier (usually mostly empty).

IcyWind · 10/05/2020 22:38

snuggly that sounds delish!. I wish I had inspiration when it came to food.

mrs I think my 2 year old couldGrin

maltesers there were a lot of things left unsaid, hopefully tomorrow questions are asked and we can get more of an idea.

life I think I’d leave it a little while. As wolf says, I’d end up cleaning what she cleaned.

I’ve got an awful stress headache. It’s such difficult times for us all. I’ve decided to just get back to planning our home schooling activities for tomorrow. I’ve left it very lateBlush

Unescorted · 10/05/2020 23:32

north I don't do it in a basket. I use any bowl shaped thing or a silicon baking paper or a well floured tea towel or bread tin. The art of it is to tension the dough by stretching and drawing ears across during the first rise and shaping it for the second. It is an odd thing, where you pull it and hope it kind of half sticks, bur doesn't - I will try to find a you tube video.

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/05/2020 07:17

Show us the dress snuggly.

Thanks. I'm going to leave it a few weeks and see what happens with the cleaner. I think it's still too uncertain for me to have the risk in my home. I can cope with the shopping risk and seeing family to drop stuff but not in my bathroom.
Thanks.

Its wonderful meadow but I appreciate not everyone can afford it. We couldn't before

SnugglySnerd · 11/05/2020 07:29

We've decided we're going to get a cleaner after lockdown. We've been talking about it for months and being at home has made us realise that we really do lack the time and energy when we're both at work. Even with the dcs here all the time the house is cleaner and tidier because we have been keeping on top of it. When we are both doing long days at work and commuting we can't face cleaning on top of that too. Having said all that it looks like dh will be wfh for months to come yet.

Just reading more about the new rules. I which it was consistent across the UK. I think a lot of people in England will turn up to parks, beaches etc now and it'll spread faster again. We still can't go to parks because the dts will not understand why they can't go on the swings and there will just be tantrums!

I'll look for a dress pic later, I'd better get dressed and start the day.

Wolfcub · 11/05/2020 09:10

Day off to day which means a day of arguing about school
Work without the benefit of a distraction

Will try and make him go for a walk later

Spends yesterday £9.99 on ProCreate art app, mainly for DD1 but I’m looking forward to trying it too.

Bored today. Home ed is much more fun when it involves friends, clubs and day trips.

I’m quite glad about the unlimited exercise idea, as it means we can take the toddler to walk round the duck pond (which 12yo especially finds boring so often refuses to go out at all) and do separate longer walks for the big two, or kick a ball around etc. The park by us has been pretty empty so far, will be interesting to see how that changes now.

CamdenLurker · 11/05/2020 13:23

Hi guys!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I'm at work today, spent £5 on lunch because I'm trying not to eat bread and we didn't have anything else suitable in the house, I got a chicken salad and some fruit for my fiver!

I've come to the conclusion that the food budget is going to have to be a bit more generous, after all £20 per person per week isn't much is it? I think I just got used to shopping at the market and saving loads that way, I'm saving a huge chunk of money on bus fares for dc's (£225 a month) so I'll just add some of that to the groceries.

I would love a cleaner, it would save me so
Much time, as it stands both Dh and I work full time and I have a long commute so everything other than the bare minimum gets left until a Friday evening/ weekend, the last thing anyone wants to do is housework at the weekend isn't it? Reckon it'd cost about £50 a week for downstairs only, which is quite a lot really, am very envious of you guys with cleaners Smile

Not much has changed with regards to Lockdown has it? I said to Dh this morning that it's made me realise how much I took our freedoms for granted, I'm finding life quite joyless right now. I'm really worried about being back at work full time, traffic was much busier today driving into London, I can't walk or ride a bike and soon it's going to be gridlock as everyone's been advised to drive in, add to that the congestion charge and very expensive/limited parking, I just can't see how it's going to pan out, did anybody see how busy the platforms were on the jubilee line this morning?? The thought of getting on a crowded tube is very daunting.

ememem84 · 11/05/2020 13:36

Desperate for a cleaner here. Need to find a good one. Once this is all over/calmed down somewhat.

Bars cafes and pubs are open here today.

I’m on annual leave this week. We were meant to be in Mexico. 😭. BA have cancelled the flight though. So. Despite them telling me via email the flight would go. It hasn’t. So. I’m going to get back on the case re a refund not a voucher.

ememem84 · 11/05/2020 13:38

Dh also isn’t feeling well. So I’m solo parenting as I have been all weekend really. He’s hot and cold and shivery. Physically shaking when he’s around the kids (not so much when he’s working though...) dressing gown of doom is on and he’s gone for a nap.

Wolfcub · 11/05/2020 14:09

Oh dear Em hope he gets better soon

Camden in the days when I used to have a cleaner it cost £20 to do my whole house, that was two cleaners for one hour (company rule about working in pairs)

We've been for a walk. Schooling has been relatively calm so far in that I've only been screamed at a few timesHmm

Living room drawers of doom have been fettled. I've found ds a load of bits for a scout activity he needs to do, mugged the postie for rubber bands, washed and fitted my face mask. Spider caught. Finished kitchen cupboard sorting. Started new book - spending a fortune here on books.

OP posts:
SnugglySnerd · 11/05/2020 14:38

Is that the massive spider from a couple of weeks ago?!

I've decided the same things about food Camden. £20 a week was realistic when the majority of the DC's snacks and lunches (and breakfasts for the dts) were taken care of at school or nursery. Now we are all here all day we need more food.

I managed to get one of the Doves flour boxes today. I am very excited about it!

Wolfcub · 11/05/2020 16:48

Snuggly I believe it's the offspring of the mahoosive spider (which I did eventually catch). It grew in the web of that one and has then been appearing and disappearing in my bedroom like schroedinger's spider.

Packed up two big laundry bags of stbexh's stuff for Saturday. Prepped veg for dinner. Got through all school work, nobody killed anybody, read more book

OP posts:
Wolfcub · 11/05/2020 16:49

I've got a loaf in the breadmaker too

Enjoy your flour Snuggly. I'm very happy with mine, it's all a really lovely texture
