Afternoon all.

em hope he feels better soon and it isn't The Virus.

wolf only 2 times is good.

I would love a cleaner - but with the amount of bike junk and mud traipsed into the house it wouldn't be fair.

Tonight I will be mostly making face masks. 10 in total. At times like this I am very glad I have a fabric stash.

Rainb0w · 11/05/2020 18:07

NSD here had a mahoosive walk this afternoon absolutely exhausted.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 11/05/2020 18:33

Went to tesco today - it was horrible! Never going mid afternoon again, I normally go after 5 and its quiet! Spent £97 but all the f&f was half price. I got dd lots of clothes as shes had a growth spurt and dd2 a Jessie costume and lol tshirt for her birthday. Also bought a stapler, hole punch and document wallets for school work.

Not much school work been done today as its DH birthday. I've started bribing mine, 10p per task or household job done. Then on Sunday they can spend it on various bits I have in my present box or things I've picked up in advance (mostly secondhand lol dolls or funko pop minis) working well at the moment!!

ChristmasSeacow · 11/05/2020 18:45

I ordered fabric to make face masks just yesterday Unescorted. I have quite a stash of Christmas fabrics but not so much of non-festive stuff Grin and I wanted something that the DCs might willingly wear too. Also wasn’t sure that random repurposed clothes would necessarily be suitable as they say it should ideally be a close woven fabric, like quilting cotton. What pattern are you following and are you putting any liner /filter in yours? I was concerned that face coverings would be mandatory and DS’s (likely) refusal would stop him going back to school, but they seem to exempt those who can’t manage them independently. I think it would be discriminatory if people with sensory disorders had to wear them at all costs. But just in case I ordered some space-themed fabric he might like. And some cheery stuff for DD. and some Dr Who fabric for my lovely friend down the road . And elastic. It won’t arrive for a week or so though.

I also ordered some naice yarn. I finished a big project yesterday so while I still have a huge stash, on the basis of one out, one in, I’m in balance Wink. Someone asked a while back whether anyone has bought treat stuff since lockdown. I’ve only bought yarn but I’ve bought a few projects’ worth of posh expensive hand-dyed yarn. Am knitting a bit more though and really enjoying it so I’m not sorry!

My work laptop has been a nightmare today. I have a faulty keyboard and while it was just skipping letters it wasn’t too bad (I just plugged in an external Keyboard). However, it has now started spontaneously typing huge strings of the letter v in every field, which is making it impossible to write, or even log in to some applications. I’ve been swearing like a trouper today. As it’s a hardware problem I’ve got to go into the office tomorrow or Wednesday so IT can look at it. I am really not keen to go on the tube but don’t think I can park anywhere handy in central London so it can’t really be avoided Sad

I can’t remember when I last posted! Someone asked about the street party - it was fun, and very civilised (no boundaries breached!) and the Dcs seemed to really enjoy the change of scene - to the front garden Wink and unlimited cake . We’re still eating scones, shortbread and cupcakes now... I must get on the diet wagon though and at least get back to where I was last year. Camden, will you be my buddy? Perhaps we can inspire each other?

Wolf I can’t believe you are reading so much! Your house is properly clean and you can still read! I am missing my cleaner a lot but also really enjoying not worrying about people coming into the house from god-knows-where. I’d actually rather clean it myself, for the time being, and at least know where we’ve all been! The last week before lockdown when we still had 3 builders and the cleaner in and out were very stressful. It’ll be a while before I want people in the house who go to lots of other houses, tbh. At least until we’re all out at school /work anyway. Bit galling that I’m still paying her though, and my house is not great! I did finally get round to mopping the downstairs yesterday... and broke the mop!

Bummer about Mexico Em

Bit disappointed there was no clear roadmap in Boris’s plan as to when extended families can see each other again. I’m so sad for my poor mum on her own. And gosh, I wish DS was in Year 1 still!

I have to put away 6 loads of washing now 😫😫😫. Fortified by a really nice slow cooker chicken, sweet potato and coconut curry 😋

ChristmasSeacow · 11/05/2020 18:58

Ooh, forgot to say... we’ve booked an Air bnb house for August in wales. Bit of a punt but I filtered the search for flexible cancellation and this is fully refundable up to 2 weeks before we go, so seemed worth a try. The kids just love beaches, picnics etc, even if we don’t go to many attractions (I’m assuming things will still be distancing by then, even if open). It was £1500 for 2 weeks, a bit more urban and smaller than we’d ideally like (DD will have to sleep in our room if DM can come with us) but still easy reach of lots of lovely beaches, castles etc. We found one other fully cancellable property with an extra bedroom and it was twice the cost! Lovely rural location,
bigger beautiful house, but I couldn’t justify the difference with the future being insecure. I really hope we get to go 🤞🏻. I’m not telling the DC just in case.

Wolfcub · 11/05/2020 19:15

Sea look at the REW website for a free pattern. I bought a mask from there and the fit is good. The pattern is free and has three sizes for kids, women and men

CamdenLurker · 11/05/2020 20:02

Yay Sea let's definitely be buddies, I need to be accountable for my food intake, your curry sounds delicious. I ended up with bolognese out of the freezer instead of pasta I had a load of mushrooms with it, sounds odd but it was ok.

I'm generally quite a lazy person and lockdown seems to have made me even lazier, I really need to find some motivation and start to do a little more exercise, when I read everyone's posts on here it makes me realise just how little I do.

What books is everyone reading? Any recommendations? I'm reading the child by Fiona Barton but struggling to get into it. I'm quite lucky because the editorial team at work get sent hundreds of books every week, all sorts, and any they aren't interested in they pass on to my team, we also get the glossy magazines, dd1 loves Vogue. I'm more into good housekeeping - although if you saw my house right now you wouldn't believe it Smile

Whilst watching the daily briefing earlier a journalist said that beauty salons and hairdressers may be able to open again in JULY, I can't go another two months without a leg wax lol - I'm gonna look like Chewbacca. First world problems I know.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/05/2020 20:09

Would your mum move in with you for a bit Sea? If I had the space I'd definitely move my mum in for the duration!

Busy day wfh today but got a fair bit done, did zoom Pilates tonight which was good apart from dd and the dog wandering in and out 🙄

Can't believe we can't get a hair cut until July 😳 I'm seriously starting to resemble hagridge (?sp!)

SnugglySnerd · 11/05/2020 20:11

I'm worried about the masks. I don't really fancy it but will obviously wear one if we have to. I don't know how I could teach with a mask on though. There is no way the dts will keep them on. They won't keep a hat on for more than 30 seconds. I'm worried we'll just be stuck at home even when things open. Also I cannot sew. Can I use a scarf in the supermarket as an interim measure? I have a good selection in different fabrics.

Unescorted · 11/05/2020 20:17

sea I am doing this one

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/05/2020 20:52

Dam I have no elastic for a mask.
£6 coop today on strawberry and sweets.

Not a great day today.
Going to bed in a bit.

IcyWind · 11/05/2020 21:27

NSD here either, I want to book for our annual haven holiday but not sure when we’ll be able to go

Wolfcub · 11/05/2020 21:33

Snuggly you can use a scarf you do not need an official mask of any kind. The standard for the public is a facial covering, not a mask, and the covering is not mandatory either.

SnugglySnerd · 11/05/2020 21:40

Thanks Wolf. Pleased you got rid of the spiders btw. I hope mother and baby have been reunited in the garden!

ememem84 · 11/05/2020 21:59

Self isolation here for 14 days. Dh for 7. He’s getting tested tomorrow morning for the virus. So I’m “camping” in dds room right now. Sleeping on couch cushions with spare duvet.

Dh is holed up in our room. He’s leaving to go get tested tomorrow then is back in there.

I’m concerned about him obviously as he’s very rarely Ill. Or rarely admits it.

But the really selfish part of me is all “ffs now I’m solo parenting two under 3 and I can’t leave the effing house”

Spoke to dsis earlier. Told her the situation. She’s bringing her spare mattresses tomorrow. Along with a stash of lucozade and some chicken soup.

I’ve just ordered a veg and fruit box and some more gin online. 😂 Dh has ordered a naice air matress.

Dsis will do shopping for us.

I’m so so so upset too because I met dparents today with the dc. We went for a walk. Outside. No touching. Then this. Ffs.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

Anyway. Will update tomorrow.

Bornlazy · 11/05/2020 22:05

I haven't started wearing a mask yet. I wear a scarf and if I suddenly noticed that everyone was wearing one id pull it up over my face I actually wish they hadn't advised people to use masks whilst in shops. The number of people I've seen touching their masks and adjusting them with their dirty (sometimes gloved hands) is frightening. All these people are touching their faces because they are wearing a mask. I also think they give people a false sense of security as they feel protected so don't stay 2 m away from others. Public transport is a bit different if everyone is crowded in together, but then I don't really understand why they are letting so many people onto the tube at the same time anyway.

I suddenly for the first time in my life want to buy plants for my garden. I think its purely because I know I can't...

Bornlazy · 11/05/2020 22:16

em fingers crossed it's just a virus and not thee virus. Even if worst case scenario he's positive I'm sure the risk to your dm and df are small.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 11/05/2020 23:04

Oh no I dont want to have to wear a mask, even seeing them on other people makes me nervy and shopping is worse, had a IBS flare up mid shopping the first time I went then the toilets were closed it was awful. I cant wear things tight on my face or neck it makes me feel like I cant breathe, I work in early years I hope it's not mandatory.

em fingers crossed it's just a virus.

ememem84 · 12/05/2020 06:12

Thanks guys - I’m hoping it’s a negative result but like you say if it is positive we were outside etc. So small risk.

The kicker for me was that I hadn’t seen them in real life since Mother’s Day (end of March). And last night ddad called up to say how lovely it was to see the kiddos and how they’d come and sit in our garden this weekend (allowed under our new rules). Literally half hour after Dh had been told to isolate. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyway. Slept ok on the couch cushions in dds room. She’s awake now and was excited to see me in her room. But I’ve asked her to go back to sleep.

Wolfcub · 12/05/2020 06:26

Oh no Em, fingers crossed the test is negative

OP posts:
Lovemaltesers · 12/05/2020 06:50

Fingers crossed it is negative em , I think the stats show most people who get tested are negative Flowers

ememem84 · 12/05/2020 07:19

I’m hopeful it will be negative. I mean he’s not well that’s a fact. But fingers crossed.

They’ve tested 3000 + people here i think and 300 have been positive.

Anyway. Until we get his result (can take up to 4 days....!) I’m solo parenting. The difficulty will be keeping DS away from dh and also keeping ds from telling dparents that daddy is hiding.

We’re not telling dparents until we get dhs result. Because if it takes days and days they’ll be worried and will essentially fuss and fuss. It’s already going to be tough for me so I’m trying to keep things as easy for myself as possible. They will want to help us out.

Dsis knows and will help. She’s bringing me a matress today and will do some shopping as we need it.

Today’s jobs - bleaching everything.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/05/2020 07:26

Oh dear em. Are you trying to work too? If you are I would seriously consider asking for leave or reduced hours.
Hopefully negative if not he will be a way through it and the DC and you may not even get it. Have that worry if you need to.

Big hug sweetie x

Going to the range today for some craft bits for DD school art and a new lidded pan as the non stick coating is peeling and some elastic. Will get some crisps and such like while I'm there.

SnugglySnerd · 12/05/2020 08:29

I hope it's a negative Em, and that he gets well soon and you are all safe. I'd be thinking exactly the same about being home with the kids on my own. I hope your work are being flexible.
