Spend all her time watching her kids through a screen. And never sees them do anything amazing with her own eyes.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/08/2018 21:25

Dh gets vexed that we are taking less and less photos as we are just having a nice time.

First holiday away, carefully chosen and planned holiday in Dorset. Best memory for the DC - 2 of them got a vomit bug and were sick. ...... All the best laid plans of fossil hunting, days out, etc. And that's what they remember.

It's about emotional happiness/memories for me. Can I, will my DC look back and be happy? Those are the memories for me and that's what I aim for. We were piss poor as a kid. I had a good childhood and that's what I want.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 27/08/2018 21:34

scandi I made a reward chart when dd was little, just did a little chart with things on it like; did a useful job, went to bed nicely etc if she got 5 gold stars she got to chose a small treat.

Seacow thank you that sounds similar to what I'm doing, I've felt a bit better this afternoon which is nice!!

I've not really understood the # thing, I think I'm too old for it!! I do have to remind myself to take photos though and little videos, dd is growing up so fast it's scary!!

Cagliostro · 27/08/2018 21:35

Lonely I only just managed to get DD to part with a totoro t-shirt that had him on a background of starry night! She loved it so much but outgrew it a couple of years ago. DS had a steampunk Calcifer! Does she like a lot of anime stuff?

I love taking pics of the Caglets too. Also I must say despite my earlier post I have had the odd wibble about this holiday being really boring. As we really have done sod all. And I have the guilts over not doing the joint birthday party we had hoped to, since the holidays have been taken up with packing, cleaning, moving, unpacking! I’ve been so knackered from it all that I’ve stayed clear of any trips etc. Compounded by DD having her melatonin break which means fuck all sleep.

But actually it’s been fine I think, they understand we’ve had to prioritise house stuff, and TBH they have been so excited at the novelty of being able to have fun at home (as it has space so being stuck in eg on a rainy day doesn’t feel like being imprisoned), have friends round, get the big playmobil sets out and do things like walk to the shops/park on their own (independence!) etc. We have played board games almost every day since we moved here which we never had the energy to do before, I’ve been reading to the kids at bedtime again (had got out of the habit due to being so exhausted and stressed), baby’s taken her first steps and amused us all by her escapades (reeeeally need that stairgate 🤔). And I think we will always remember this holiday for good reasons, as there have been a lot of memories made building flat packs and stuff! I actually said to DD the other day, maybe we should celebrate the anniversary of moving here in future years because our lives have changed so much since that date!

#blessed 😂

ememem84 · 27/08/2018 21:47

#specialtimes cag

I have about a gazillion pics of ds on my phone. He’s a busy bee. And changing so fast. I want to be able to remember him when he was teeny. I had this idea that I’d take a pic of him a day for his first year. And make a collage. I don’t think I’ve done that. Although maybe I have. Will check at some point.

QuitelovesStrictly · 27/08/2018 22:46

#Couplegoals Hmm Grin

My couplegoal is for DH to stfu and stop snoring . I can hear him through a wall Hmm .

ChristmasSeacow · 28/08/2018 00:16

I take literally squillions of pictures of the dcs but I have only posted a handful on social meeja, ever. I take them for myself and DH, to remember. They change so fast. I have taken fewer of DS as he has got older and the rate of change has slowed though, I expect it will be the same for DD.

As for #makingmemories, at best the DCs will remember Sunday breakfasts of blueberry pancakes. Or possibly my more shrill moments of refereeing Wink.

Love the idea of the house anniversary Cag. I always remember our house anniversary though we don’t mark it. We might next year though (10 years!) if I’ve managed to declutter by then

I’ve shelved the very complicated cable knit dress for DD for now as I fancy doing something speedier for a spell (and it won’t fit her for 2 years anyway..: though it may take me that long to knit the thing Hmm). So I’ve started a striped cotton jumper for myself with my Drops stash. The colours are making me very happy Smile

ChristmasSeacow · 28/08/2018 00:17

Quite Grin

SnugglySnerd · 28/08/2018 05:59

Morning everyone! It's been a busy weekend. I'm miles behind. Will try and catch up today.

ememem84 · 28/08/2018 06:28

Morning. Back to work today after a 5 day weekend.... in for 3 days then a 4 day weekend for me.

Ds has just woken up. He’s singing. Catface is here in bed with me. I’m pretty sure she was exploring downstairs last night. I woke up at silly o clock to go for a weeeeee and I heard her trotting up the stairs. She waited outside the bathroom door to escort me back to bed.

Wolfcub · 28/08/2018 06:41

Morning all. Do not want to work today! Out for dinner later with lovely friend whilst ds sees H. Will need to pay for dinner and parking. Need to give ds some spends too in case he meets up with friends today

QuitelovesStrictly · 28/08/2018 06:49

I wasnt really meaning us mere mortals when I talked about SM,more the Insta Influencers/Slebs etc.#PerfectLife
Although Im sure we all know at least one who is OTT with this stuff .
I use FB to tag DC in stupid stuff and Instagram to follow a few friends/slebs Blush
It is insiduous though and adds to the overall feeling of "women,do more"
#fuckthatshit

lillylollylandy · 28/08/2018 06:52

Morning. On the train to one of our regional offices today. Rubbish sleep last night thanks to DS and DD2 creeping into our bed in the wee hours. Today will mainly be fuelled by caffeine methinks.

On plus side, two large bin bags of crap were excavated from kids' rooms yesterday along with three bags of clothes and shoes for recycling. Very cathartic! For me anyway. They'll go mental once they realise I've chucked stuff but in my defence I've only thrown broken or dangerous stuff. And I warned them a billion times before I did it!

NSD yesterday. Today was meant to be NSD but that failed with a coffee purchase at the station at 0612. Zzzz.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/08/2018 07:12

Back at work here too after spending a gazillion pounds on school shoes and trainers.
£100 ish this week on child care too.

Wish I had booked this week off, not looking forward to being back.

LonelyOversharer · 28/08/2018 07:33

Was terrified of sleeping in this morning, so every tablet and phone had it's alarm set! Am still trying to find where all the annoying tunes are coming from. I packed the whole house off to bed at 10pm last night, as it's been getting past midnight for some of the dc. This time next week is school.

Right, coffee and sort my stuff. Can't think what I'll spend money on today, sure I'll think of something though.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 28/08/2018 07:58

lonely I've introduced strict bedtime since sun eve as mine are back to school on Thursday, they've actually been happy to go ShockConfused

I've started using a lavender & basil pillow spray in past week and I go to sleep almost immediately not sure if it's emotional exhaustion or the spray Hmm

Wolf I don't want to go to work today either but I'm here now, about to go in now Smile

Our electricity bill is €60 less than last one two months ago, despite H always using dryer instead of clothesline Angry

WreckTangled · 28/08/2018 08:26

I got the money tax credits owed us!!! I am so happy I can pay off our overdraft and we can start again GrinGrinGrinGrin

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/08/2018 08:30

Yeah wreck, great news.

Does anyone (regular) want a £10 Boden voucher use by 1 September

WreckTangled · 28/08/2018 08:31

Yes please life!!

ememem84 · 28/08/2018 08:48

Dh is back to his usual crabby everything is shit you’re not helping enough self.

Things I’ve done wrong this morning:

  • wasn’t watching ds while dh got ready for work and he (ds) fell off the bed. Disclaimer - I was in the shower
  • suggested to dh we wait until we actually have the new house and have seen the deeds before we speak to a solar panel person (I’m in agreement with solar panels just want to make sure that per the deeds we’re allowed them - dh doesn’t see this. He sees that the law says you’re allowed to put stuff on 80% of a roof without planning permission. So we can do it.
  • I got my nails done on Saturday morning. I asked him time and time again if he was ok with it because I was happy to change the appointment. He said no it was fine. Turns out not fine and I’m “always leaving him with ds for most of the weekend”

So that’s fun on a Tuesday.....

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 28/08/2018 08:52

Morning all, that's great news wreck

The first summer we moved I didn't do anything cag other than float around my house feeling happy!!

I've got a Dr's appointment for 11.10 so will see what they say.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 28/08/2018 08:56

em he does understand he is ds's father right?! I would have zero patience with any of that shit.

Cagliostro · 28/08/2018 09:06

Yay wreck!

Em does he think you're an alien with eyes on long stalks? I can't see how else you are supposed to watch DS from another room.

Wolfcub · 28/08/2018 09:08

Wreck, great news
Girlie good luck at the docs
Em I would have feck all parience with that either. Where was dh whilst you were in the shower? I used to manage to dry my hair and dress for work whilst watching ds, no reason why he can’t do so

TakeItSlow · 28/08/2018 09:11

I think the real memories for children are those times when we have a meeting of minds and when time sort of stands still for a bit. Ds and I have more of those partly because I have no smartphone and no access to all the #memories stuff that people get so into. I'm glad I have no smartphone. Most of the time I also forget my camera and we just pootle around together.
